Christmas Time on The Square In Ripley, MS.
Ripley will always have many special memories for me after having worked there for 11 years. I worked with some incredible students, beyond talented teachers, and I have friends there are never far from my thoughts. The Square always seemed like a truly uniques place. Reminds me of living in Oxford, MS as a college student. Town Squares are simply “special”. Merry Christmas!!! 🙏❤️😊👍👊

BK11 Handle Wrap
Переглядів 16 тис.13 років тому
This is a request from a viewer. He asked that I demonstrate how I wrap the handle on my BK11. It is not difficult and once you have the materials in place, it will take less than 10 minutes. Please do the wrapping with the knife in the sheath. I was an idiot and cut myself pretty good a couple of years ago by not following this very simple/common sense bit of advise. The music is by a local, a...
Kabar BK11 vs. ESEE (Rat Cutlery) Izula
Переглядів 22 тис.14 років тому
This is a brief look at the bk11 and Izula. Two great knives from two very reputable companies. Both can be razor sharp. The Izula seems to hold its edge longer based on my experience. Having said that, both sharpen up and take an edge quickly. The Izula powder coating is extremely tough and does not seem to wear like the BK!!. The BK11 is no slouch. It is thicker than the Izula and has the add...

@@drumgodtim Awesome, thanks! I haven't seen that one yet! And you're right! That IS a big door! Lol!
What kind of pack is that? Make and model. Love your videos. Thank.
It is a Maxpedition Mongo Versipack. Comes in different colors. So happy you enjoyed my video. 😊👍😊👍😊👍
What kind of gear bag and model do you have? Thanks.😀
Great tutorial. I actually like that yellow against the black knife. It really pops! I liked the music too!
Great music... Nice work.... I'm gonna do this on my knife
I know this is an old video but you might want to look into the Izula II. Same exact knife but with a longer handle. might be worth that 10 (:
Thumbs up because one; the coffin nail reference and two; " thats some good hard wood." Thats what she said hahaha. Awesome video man, thanks. I cant decide so i think im just going to say screw it and go with the eskabar.
Can't go wrong either way. I own the Bk-11, AFTER the micarta handles I saw the BK-11 wins, even though I know the Izula/D'Eskabar have a cheaper handle (That is still very good) Personally I say spend $10 more and buy the D'Eskabar which is a D2, stonewashed version of the Izula :) the BK-11 is fun if you plan on doing more bushcrafty or beer-open-y stuff. But both work fantastically as EDC combat knives, believe it or not. Vut I train in Kali, so I always try and have a karambit/hawkbill/s-blade and especially one with a wave/emerson function otherwise you're not gonna be able to deploy it in time if someone is rushing you, that's what the BK/ESEE/D'Eskabar is for :)
Hi there. Excellent video tutorial. Way to go! Thx.
You are most welcome. Thanks for watching.
rhythm section was tight, solos were sloppy and boring
the sheath is heavy because its covered in paracord...
The Izula looks nice (thought I wanted one for a while) but I find Jeff Randall *almost* as hard to take as Lynn Thompson, for different reasons. And yes, I know what I just said, and I meant it.
i sliced a thin piece of my thumb off when the blade came out of the sheath because i pulled so hard when wrapping
Loving the Little Sunflower. Never heard it done this way before.
Thanks for sharing...great background music!
Very good informative video. Even better song choice. That extra touch of class as you wrap.
The BK11 dulls fast because of the sheath. The glass re-enforced nylon rubs on the blade and dulls it, same as rubbing the edge on glass as essentially thats what the sheath is doing. I bought the BK11 and if i had known that the FRN sheaths do this i would have just bought the izula which i find myself wanting more and more anyway. I have an Esee 6 and 3mil and they are amazing. The kydex and plastic sheaths from Esee do not dull the blades.
I chop with my right hand, but do all my cutting with the left. We were all born right handed, lefties just learn to overcome it! ;)
@milesfinch you are very witty!
"some good hard wood" ha . good review
@danderson8127 Thanks for the compliment and I am glad that you enjoyed the music. How has the wrap held up? Hope you did not cut yourself! :) Enjoy!!!
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you!!!! I am so glad that any info from my video was able to help you make a decision on your knife of choice with which you are happy and satisfied. Both blades are very nice, but the Izula had the leg up in a couple of different aspects. Do you use your Izula much? I have carried mine as a necker, but also as an EDC b/c it is so light/flat and disappears in my pocket. Thanks for watching and comments...ALL THE BEST!!!!!
@amdgepr Glad you are home and are going to be ok...let's have a shot of that wrapping when you are done! All The Best!!! =)
@amdgepr I had cut some 550 cord and got pulled into a conversation. I was not paying attention and tried to close the blade along the cutting edge instead of the spine...bit me really good...
@amdgepr I just watched my vid up to 5:12 and I believe I know what happened. The same thing happened to me with an Izula...when I tightened the knot I pulled up on the knife taking it out of the sheath and across my fingers....in the bk11 vid, I am pulling in such a way as to not unsheathe the blade...I feel your pain...sorry that you got cut...we knife heads get cut from time to time...in fact, I sliced my thumb open on a leatherman wave a couple of weeks ago...
@amdgepr Oh No!!! I am so sorry for your troubles! I cut my hand really good with the Izula while wrapping its handle over a year ago....I was pulling the cord tight while hanging onto the sheath and pulled the knife right across the inside of three fingers...no stitches, but plenty of blood and sore fingers...your suggestion of taping is great advice!!! Take care of that thumb!!!
Haha!!!! Thanks a lot!!! You all thawing out over there??? Thanks for watching!!!
Now it's a wrap ;o) Great choice of music!! Tim
@CobblersThumb Thanks for watching and commenting...need to put out more videos but I have not taken the time. Gotten any new blades or kit lately???
i would be happy to....may take a week though...thanks for watching!!!! :)
can you make a video on how you para wrapped your bk11
@DangerDad29 Thanks for posting! My BK11 will take a really good edge as well, but I have not found it dulling too quickly...that being said, it def. does not hold a keen edge under constant "hard" use for a long amount of time. For me the Izula holds a edge longer...the BK11 is 1095 CroVan (sp?). The Izula is straight up 1095 carbon. The geometry of the Izula helps it cut better. More efficient cutting with less wear on the blade perhaps? The Kabar "Eskabar" has a izula handle with BK11 blade
i have the bk11, can get it razor sharp but it dulls so quickly. does the izula hold an edge for longer? i know its the same steel...
Great review, finally a head to head comparison. I'm sold on the Izula. Thanks Tim for the great review
@dirtysnatcez You are most welcome and I am glad you enjoyed the vid...have fun with that Izula!!!
Finally a great head to head review. Good job, I'm sold on the Izula..Thanks Tim....
@drumgodtim alright will do, thanks!
@ExiledProduction Thanks for watching. U will enjoy your BK11. Excellent blade @ a attractive price point. Google "GI Plus paracord"...amazon has tons...desert camo was on my vid.
great vid dude, ended up ordering bk 11 because i can get it locally and alot cheaper, also where'd you get that paracord? I want to get real 550 paracord not the nock-off type.
@rwpock Thanks for commenting friend!!! Going to message you with some info....ALL THE BEST!!!
@wray4407 I love my BK11 as well and think that Ethan Becker has created a very affordable, functional, and attractive line of blades that had a huge following while with Camillus. Many people were very happy when he brought the line back through Kabar. I just finished filming your request and will have it on UA-cam either tonight or early tomorrow. ALL THE BEST!!!
@wray4407 Thanks for commenting! Both knives were sharpened right before I did the testing on a Spyderco Sharpmaker. Shaving sharp. The lanyard gave me more control and comfort. I have since wrapped the Izula. Made a big difference in transferring power into the cutting stroke.
@TheMrJUNGLECAT Christmas time...how does that sound??? Black, OD Green, Tan or Pink??? Think PINK will work out the best for you....LOL!!!
@BLUNTRUTH4U Thank You!!! I am adding that tag now...you helped convince me to get the Izula with your cutting through a 4x4 and then shaving your arm...SICK!!! All the best....
Very good, practical, useful, testing. People always want me to get the BK11 and compare it to the Izula, but I don't like the BK11 design. I don't think I'll ever get one, I don't buy knives just to review - I have to think that I might like them. Keep 'em coming! (suggestion: put the words "knife review" in all your videos' tags)
@Imglange Thanks for the comment. I def. plan on wrapping my handle on the Izula and having a loop to put my pinkie into. I have watched many of bluntruth's vids and I will def. consider putting a convex grind on the Izula. I'll do another vid once I have wrapped the Izula's handle. You are very correct that the Izula will take a beating. I am still amazed at all the abuse I have dealt out on this little blade that the coating has not started to come off yet... All The Best!
Nice testing. A cutting test for the izula is lacking on youtube. I would definately recommen that You wrap your izula - the comfort improves remarkedly! Its amazing how tough the little izula is a how smash mine through alot of batoning (my own vids shows a tiny portion of what the my izula has gone through) the cutting preformance of the izula can be improved by making the scondary grind convex (watch eg bluntruth4u's vids for convexing) Take care...
