wow
Excellent content and video. My creative space room looks not dissimilar. I thought about a tidy up. But it feels comfortable and has many inspirations at hand at once.
yay blockbuster Art shows, great for everybody!
better make it grammable!
Dude makes a collage and then hires an army of interns to paint it for him 😵
Where did he say "I don't have to interact with people" ? That was interesting for me to hear / read :3
Who is buying this?
Honestly i'm not sure. Private collectors of some sort i'd assume.
You do find some interesting artists, never heard of her before. She seems to have had a tough life; maybe her simplicity of living and her focus on her work help her manage her condition. Also, keep distractions to a minimum. It is also interesting how long it can take before people notice, or appreciate, your work.
SLAVERY [a total piece of shit] no art produced by an assistant is worth anything an artist should make their own art another hustler just like WARHOLA
Its crap, not art and he is making fun of the fools buying his shit! That said, good for him lol
Good video, but taking someone who doesn't even make his own art seriously does little to inspire others.
Wonderful video, thankyou
Thanks. Now I know about 2 very good artists!
Beth Cavener!
I always pause movies to look at them and wonder who makes these cool graphics. same for games. great video Alex, thanks a lot
Isn't A.I. Art more soulless?
I try to keep my painting area clean and tidy, and it always makes me think of Bacon’s studio. Thank you for this though, as I didn’t know that they’d painstakingly relocated his to Edinburgh, including every last dust molecule.
You missed the importance of a ripe banana to fuel his creative energy.
What is the source of the printed pages you are showing / quoting?
At which timestamp specifically?
My mother always complains my room and work areas are too messy. Down I don't feel bad one bit.
Cannot understand why they copied dirty paintings? Once the original painting is restored wouldn't the modified copy look odd? Seen his sculpture in Bilbao, unfortunately couldn't get anywhere near it.
The way you chose to make your videos with calmness and gentle transitions makes this such a pleasant experience 😊
Love your channel! Excited for more videos!
He’s a force of nature, thank you for the video,
As an advertising art director, I believed that the idea was everything. But the reality is that ideas are cheap; everyone has them. Everyone has an idea for a story they will never write, a picture they will never paint, or an invention they will never produce. I now believe that art is not only in the idea but, most importantly, in the making. The art world that Jeff Koons occupies is a world of commerce. His studio's works are bought by super-rich investors or hedge funds who have no interest beyond the future worth of the pieces.
Would love to see you do a video on Olafur Eliasson and his team - super interesting process
I'm not familiar with Olafur - thanks for the suggestion! Added to my list of potential future videos :)
Party tricks
Always a fascinating view. Thanks!
i love these peeks into the studios of artists. its clear you are passionate about studying and sharing what you learn from them. off the top of my head, i think a few artists you may be interested in lookin into are Ron English, Mark Ryden, and Greg "Craola" Simkins. they all work in a variety of mediums, but mostly focusing on painting. ive been a fan of these guys for years, and would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for the suggestions! I've been a fan of Gren Simkins for a long. I've always loved watching his timelapse painting videos.
Thanks for this video. I love seeing studio tours and production spaces. I have seen Ron's work in person at SFMOMA.. It's astonishing and really does a number on the brain trying to grasp the scale and hyper-realism. Also, The figure on Patricias shelf, 2:10, looks like subtle nod to Eraserhead.
Cool video, very interesting artists.
Great video, I'm glad my suggestion led to this video! I think one of the main contributors to Patricia's old work was Sam Jinks.
Patricia Piccinini is a more interesting artist than Ron Muck. Ron creates hyperrealistic humans in different sizes, Patricia hyperrealistic fantasy creatures. My favorite is the prehistoric male (?) who carries an old lady in a printed dress on his back. Not as one would expect--- the woman sits backwards (not shown here, shame on you, Alex!). But both Patricia and Ron are undeniably geniuses.
I think I prefer Ron's work but each to their own! I know the piece you're talking about with the creature carrying the lady. I was a little hesitant to share too much of Patricia's finished work to prevent scaring people away from the video. The focus was more on the studio/equipment etc.
@@alexwilliamyt Okay, that's fair. 😁
Her sculptures are nice uncanny valley beings, without fulfilling too much the cliché of what is sold as "monsters" in average horror movies.
@@AerialTheShamen I like fantasy in art. Ron does realism, and nothing more. I dig surrealism. The paintings that look normal but aren"t. ...🤔 "printed dress"?? I better use 'granny dress'. I remember those from the time all young girls started to rip off the rural dresses from their grannies. I had a colleague who wore them, halfway to the calves...and OVER her Levi bell bottom jeans. I'll never forget her, she looked amazing!
Brilliant vid. Very interesting 🎉
poor bastards!
1:28 I love art of many kinds and am an artist myself, but I always cringe at these sorts of ridiculous explanations for artworks: “highlighting the inhale and exhale of human breath as a symbol for life and death.” 😂 Seriously? It’s a giant metal balloon dog. It’s cool, but just call it what it is. Just let it be that without trying to force the attachment of some sort of profound reasoning to it. But, I guess at that price point, the buyers are expecting a little bit more for what they’re paying…
That's kinda the message of my video. I'm much more interested in process and craft, rather than the conceptual meaning behind the piece.
@ totally agree. And I have to admit, I haven’t watched the full video yet. I will later. I think some types of art really benefit from that sort of thought put into it, but the vast majority of the artists I choose to follow seem to just want to create cool stuff. And let whatever the artwork is exist for its on sake and speak for itself.
This is giving me flashbacks, I used to work there but l had to leave because of the work environment.
Yea I can imagine it's a tough place to work!
David Choe next!
He's on my list! :)
@ you’re killin it bro! These deep dives are very inspiring for any artist to see!
It's kind of depressing to know that one of the most successful artists in the world, doesn't actually create art himself. We are assuming that he comes up with the initial concept, but who is to say that that's not done by committee as well? The slight alteration of the original masterworks seems like a distasteful money grab as well.
As an artist, I appreciate both of these sculptors. Their attention to detail is second to none. However, Patricia's work is just way too visually unattractive for/to me. I don't even want to look a tit for three seconds, let alone in a gallery or on someone's wall. Obviously sh edoes that on purpose but I don't get it. Who'd want something like that in their home/office or anywhere? Do people actually but that stuff?
I would also agree, as do many other people. And I didn't show the worst of it in this video. I was careful to show the most pleasant pieces so people wouldn't turn the video off. However, what i'll say is the unpleasant nature of her designs is very intentional. And after the initial shock, when you've been exposed to her work for a long period of time, they do become much more interesting to look at.
@@alexwilliamyt I don't get the desire/thought to create things so "repulsive"....but again I do appreciate the work....and your video
"Beauty" is a disease - and at least nowadays mostly constructed by the beauty products industry.
yes to this
Hi, if anyone knows, who is the artist at 0:36 - 0:37 with the bold abstract shapes. Thanks!
That is Alex Giles.
@@alexwilliamyt thanks! love your channel btw. keep it up :)
THIS IS REPLICA of China's Artist Village. almost to perfection.
More of a businessman than an artist.
Check out CJ Hendry - loved the video!
Thank you for this video! I love Ron and Patricia's work.. I'm an sculptor too, so I love to see other artists studios, specially hyper realistic artists!
I could never not create my own work. I don’t agree with the Jeff koons factory approach… I need to create everything in solitude and by my own hand. …but I will collaborate with other artists like how Warhol amd Basquiat did.
When are you showing your studio? Would be nice for you to explain where you got the ideas from and how seeing other artist studios influenced your space
I will definitely do a video on my own office/studio at some point. However there isn't much to show as my 'studio', is really just my desk. But I would say it's very well optimised for what I do. I have lots of plans and ideas for a new studio that will definitely be featured on the channel.
Thank you for this video. I didn't know of Patricia's work; I did know Ron's... both intriguing and beautiful but at the same time slightly unnerving.
Another great vid!
I love these videos Alex - thank you. As an artist myself, it's fascinating and rare to get a glimpse into other artists most intimate work spaces from a working practical point of view rather than the intellectual, , theoretical view point of the academic. Thank you !
Thanks! :)
