Chevy Astro Camper Van Install | Before and After | DIY Camper Build
Our Chevy Astro Camper Van was gutted so we could haul furniture and tools around. It was time to hit the road again and go camping, so Honnie filmed the entire installation of our DIY camper build.     Very nice van! I was curious as to what size and brand are your wheels and tires? Are you happy with them?

      Hi! We have Falken Wildpeak all terrain tires. 265/70R16. It's too big and we're planning to change them out at some point. They rub when we turn and the side sliding door also rubs on the tire when we open it.

    I highly recommend a Carbon Monoxide and propane detector asap if youre going to us that Mr buddy heater. Also proper ventilation is a must.

      @HappyKhamper nice! I do enjoy a mr buddy heater but the condensation can be an issue and it almost ended my existence near the grand canyon except my Carbon detector saved my life.

    Wish I was somewhere where it was warm and dry enough to just do reflectix, here in the northwest I have to do sheep’s wool or thinsulate due to all the moisture and humidity 🫠 Last van I made the mistake of doing reflectix and it was a mold and rot nightmare

    What’s the length of the bed. I’m wanting my bed to be side to side like that but don’t want to buy a big sprinter or express

      It's about 5ft 7 or 8 inches. This was a twin sized mattress trimmed to fit length wise. I'm 5ft 5 and it was good enough to also sideways. Was too snug and uncomfortable when my partner and I both slept on it. I saw others put a full sized mattress there to give them more space to sleep more comfortably.

      @@OutdoorsybyNature thank you! We love our van and it runs great. We completely rebuilt the front end, some of the rear, and engine though 😅. Totally worth it, we’ve heard of these vans running for 300,000 miles

      @@HappyKhamper I love Astro vans - especially the ones with the Dutch rear doors like you have. My fear is buying one for the overinflated price they're going for now and having to sink several thousand more into it just to get it running well. In this economy, I can't make it make sense. ☹A girl can still dream, though!

      @@OutdoorsybyNature 100% I plan to do a video on all the costs we put into the van. We saved some money doing work ourselves. But overall we put about as much as we bought the van for into it for repairs.

      @@OutdoorsybyNature highly recommend sending the car in for a pre-sale inspection with a local shop. Depending on the shop, you can get a list of things you'd need fixed and an estimate as well. Then you can use it as leverage to lower the price or determine if it's worth the buy. An inspection is about $150 but varies depending on where you live.

    Good idea, stationary platform beds are the way to go in larger vans. The Astro is just too small for them so we have to get creative 🤠

    How secure is that propane tank on the back? I thought about how I would transport one and the thought honestly kinda scares me 😂 🤷‍♀️

      It's very secure! The biggest risk is someone rear-ending us. At one point we have it locked to the van too because we didn't want anyone to steal it cause it's so cute.

    Wow! Love this so much! What size mattress is that by chance?

      It was about 5'8" across. Ended up being a bit too short so we switched the layout. I'm posting an updated van tour tomorrow if you wanna see the new bed in detail!

      It's a twin mattress. We had to cut a little bit off one of the sides to fit. However, I've seen people fit a full sized mattress here. More space would be more comfortable if you're a bit taller and needs to sleep sideways. I'm 5ft 5" and it was a little snug for me. I was able to fit but it wasn't very comfortable with two people on a twin.
