Hey Jake, my name’s Dan and I just bought a 1977 Case 1175 so I’m looking forward to seeing all your 70 series videos. I watched all of the 1070 transmission rebuild videos, great job getting that project done! I’m going to change my transmission oil and filters and I just wondered what brand of oil you guys run. The forums say use only HyTran but it’s so much more expensive than just about everything else out there, thought I’d consult an expert! Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

If you'll drill that large center hole to the right size for a tap, you can then thread in the all-thread. At that point, the threads will hold the weight, and you just need to tack the end of bottom of it to keep it from spinning. If you keep this to a minimum, it's easy to grind back out should you desire making any changes in the future. It would also ensure that your orientation is perfectly perpendicular, which that one looks lightly catawampus, or that might just be the camera distortion.

I run mostly Deere, and I have a Ford or two, but I recently bought a low-hour 1070 that is equipped with a turbo. I mostly ran it ( with the door and windows open, like everybody else - lol! ) on an IHC disk, and I like it just fine. I may not be quite as refined, but an old Case is strong, and they _will_ do the work. Put a good seat in them and they'll ride about as good as anything else, too. I wouldn't mind checking into a compressor upgrade kit for R-134A. Anyway, I've enjoyed watching the progression of this project, and it looks like it turned out nicely -

Hey, I’ve got a 605h which from what I understand is similar to the 605f. I raised my tailgate but now it won’t come down. The only clue I know is that the side of the tailgate on the twine box side is rubbing up against the body, and the other side is not. Other than that, I don’t know any reason why it won’t go down. Would you know anything on this?

Hi Josh, Like you I ran a MF1560 (Vermeer 605F with red paint) for 4 years without greasing those ! Bought a 605F for parts that turned out to be pretty good shape over all so going through it much like you one step forward two back then start again. Anyway in the disassembly on the 605F frond those grease fittings !! they were covered by an access plate on the MF so we never knew. Cut a circle in that plate like on the 605 and now can grease them without removing the cover. Keep on keepin on you'll get there and in my opinion have a pretty good functioning baler for THOUSANDS less than some of the newer stuff (which still wear out bearings, belts, etc and just don't seem to be of the same quality of steel. Thanks for taking the time to put your videos together I enjoy the heck out of seeing how other folks deal with the everyday stuff of trying to keep the farm moving forward without getting so far in dept that one can never see daylight. Those children will be learning good useable life skills as well. 👍

On the head gasket issue on my 1370 the air box cover where the filter is its not a really good design, when it rain alot they leak and the rain water goes straight through the air filter into the intake and if enough gets in the water gets on top the pistions, we ran mine all day once shut it down it was fine, it rained overnight about 2 inches we went to get the tractor a couple days later, im the one that got on it when it started with no hesitation but i heard a loud pop then the familiar sound of the bad head gasket where pressure was escaping, so i pulled all 3 heads had them checked and reassembled with new head gaskets, intake and exhaust gaskets and went back with all knew bolts, that air box cover can cause you some major issues, also make certain the brake on your PTO is working if not it will half ass engage and shread the PTO clutches and brake stopping up the sump screen!! ASK ME HOW I KNOW lol😢😊😮

I have give up on having a bale counter. I am a cheater though. I NEVER take the bands off to change teeth. I am surprised you dont have a lot of trouble starting bales. Those starter flappers are worn down. I change them when they first show cords. I have had the same kind of headaches with the main drive shaft slipping out like that.Mine actually caught the hay in the tongue on fire. Good job on the repairs Jake!

That shaft needs the bearing to hold it back as well as set screws on the double roller chain sprocket set up. There is a small hole on top of the frame there that gets down to the set screw on the sprocket on the shaft. The gearbox side has a set screw too. Either get that shaft built up and turned down or get another shaft so the bearing will hold it in. I always have to tack the key on the shaft that goes in the sprocket. I just used the locking collar bearings on everything. My experience with the 2 set screw bearings is when they lock up the shaft just turns inside of them and whittles the shaft down. I enjoyed the video and it sure is good to have a back up huh? My backup always needs work too!
