    Just shared with my students. They're currently attempting to select software details but since the project is in it's inception, they really don't know what it needs to do yet! No point in picking out specific software at this time - it will only bog them down.

    Paper prototyping works like a dream. The hardest part is convincing others that it is worth doing. The amount of times I found major product design flaws at the paper stage, shocked me every-time. So I can't blame others for being skeptical. I couldn't believe it either until I saw it for my self.

    Was this just a demo with no real goal? If there was a test goal, it would be exceptionally helpful to include some discussion around that. What did you learn? How did the test user's interactions with the prototype affect your UI design decisions?

      If it is a project for a University course then a discussion is very relevant and beneficial for the students to learn about the value of user testing.

    dear people who were sent here by well meaning university tutors: your paper prototypes do not need to, and arguably should not, look like this. A paper prototype should be quick, clear, and easy to use and explain. An A4 piece of paper with every page shown on it will be quicker to make and explain than all this mess.

      Thank you for your comment! In these exercises, people have the opportunity to explore and experiment with different ways of paper prototyping, similar to how experiments are conducted to learn and improve. This applies to personal projects or any commercial ones. The process of prototyping is an experimental one, where design teams implement ideas into tangible forms to test and iterate on them. It's essential for individuals to engage in these exercises to enhance their skills and understanding of prototyping, whether it's for personal or commercial projects. The goal is to encourage learning and improvement through experimentation, play and exploration.

    if you put this much detail into a paper prototype you may as well just mocked it up digitally. this is just a giant waste of time. paper prototypes IMHO are just quick and dirty. The whole point and value is in that they are NOT neat and polished so that a core idea can be quickly tested. this whole keyboard / loading thing shown in the video is just wanky crap.

    Is this a joke? Preparing such a prototype is a waste of time. I guarantee that less time js required for even high fidelity, native prototype then to prepare this puppet show. Sometimes I think that there’s lot of BS in UX industry.

    • @oakmin9047
      @oakmin9047 4 роки тому

      Many companies have UX Programmers work on large or multiple projects at a time and therefore dedicated UI/UX designers work independently and get the idea approved early on before handing it over to the graphics artist and the programmer. A brainstorming session in a team with pen and paper will take an hour or two and they can get the boss/clients approval early on. Where are they wasting time? Ultimately, the medium does not matter than getting ideas across to the client, testing the interface with a new user and address clarity issues early on. This has been a preferred method for years, obviously they are all not stupid to not just use JS if like you say is faster lol

    • @Flick037
      @Flick037 4 роки тому

      S Solomon This method might been working in the past but let’s face it - it looks ridiculous, even they are giggling during the process, mistaking screens, and preparation is certainly more time consuming than a prototyped wireframe in software. I mean this puppet show loading bar is just a waste of time. Let’s evolve and make work more efficient, that’s all that I am trying to say.

    • @oakmin9047
      @oakmin9047 4 роки тому

      @@Flick037 Sorry ,it's not "evolution" if you aren't fixing anything significant. Know that majority of time being used for prototyping is to make decisions on the menu, layout, contents , interactions etc. There is no way around it no matter what process you use. The actual presentation , pen n paper or digital is secondary , pen n paper is just as quick as any wireframe tool , if not quicker. There is no reason to be overcritical of a process that works for them or nitpicking on their mistakes. If it works, it works.

    • @tehanu3030
      @tehanu3030 4 роки тому

      It is much easier for a user to critizise and understand layout when it is just a piece of paper, rather than a screen. Unless the user is a developer.

    So many people do not realize the studies on how people give feedback towards certain mediums. I feel that some of these techniques are important to use to help guide the flow of any program which interfaces with a person.
