It is the town hall of Amsterdam. Confiscated during the French occupation for Louis Napoleon. Only used for special occasions. Never designed or build to live in. Everything inside shouts: Republic!!!

@@blueangel9746 I tried to explain to you that this building has not been build as a palace, but a town hall. Large high halls out of white marble, colorful decorated only high above reach where visitors cannot touch the paintings. Gathering and conference rooms not suited to live in, but as offices. The wall decorations are made by the best Dutch painters from the 17th century. They were made for the walls they are still on, not an art collection like in royal palaces. To see the decorations you have to look up, unlike a palace where its hanging low, in direct eye sight. Furthermore the paintings are a homage to the town of Amsterdam, its trade, its merchants, and to the glory of the Republic of the United Netherlands, certainly not to royalty or the house of orange. During the French occupation, Louis Napoleon confiscated the town hall to make it his palace. Most 'living room' furniture is placed there by him. It is in Empire (French pronounced) style, that is more about shape and elegance than gilded baroque you find in other royal palaces. Same goes for the curtains and royal paintings, they were placed there to make it look more royal and inhabitable, but are completely out of place. Nobody ever lived there except Louis Napoleon for four years, and his wife Hortence, who left him after only a year because the building is not inhabitable.

@@aghm1967 The Germans supported this war, have a look at their enthusiastic reactions in 1939, when they invaded Poland, and later (1940) France. It was a collective delirium when France surrended. And a lot of soldiers were voluntary participating in this war of agression. And not one German soldier was obliged to commit war crimes, .... not one. So, don't call them "heroes" .... are the Russian soldiers invading Ukraine ... heroes ... in your eyes? really?
