What if my parents went to university in Nigeria and I am the first generation to go to university in the U.S., would that mean I am a first generation or no? Do I put that on my college applications?

I’m in 8th grade, I don’t really have any previous training but I REALLY love dancing and im trying out for my highschool’s drill team in April. I’m trying to learn everything I need, but as someone who doesn’t have any training, just drive, are my chances good? The director said she looked for potential overall, and I have good showmanship. I’ve tried out for dance company and scored high on artistry but about average or maybe a little bit below on technique. Does anyone have any advice for me?? It’s something I really want and will work hard for but I want to be realistic
