The story behind this performance is a great one. The song was written about the break up of her husband to be's parents marriage. Bruce was quite distress about his parents break up. So Donna was to appear on Johnny Carson to promote her new single "On The Radio". She told Bruce that she was going to sing the song (they wrote), and that maybe his parents would hear the song and would change their minds about their pending divorce. Dolly Parton who was watching the show, called the next day and asked if she could have the song "Starting Over Again" for her upcoming album. It was the first single for Dolly album and it went #1 on the Country Charts in May of 1980.

I’m not sure how I feel about this! I love Barbara Donna and Rosie. But I just don’t feel Donna gets her flowers enough!

I loved her so much ! I went to her concert in Vegas in 2008. She was fantastic! Just After she died I went to see Elton John and he dedicated a song to her and shared a story about how kind and generous she was. He said she donated a lot of money to Elton’s charities and said she’d only do so if he promised never to tell how much money she gave and that she remained anonymous. He said she was a lovely giving lady. I loved her even more hearing that ! She left us too soon. 😢

I remember hearing this beautiful song on the radio for the first time while a teenager. Many people didn't believe it was Ms. Donna. But I did! In 1977, we were well acquainted and familiar with disco Donna who we greatly loved. But this sweet balad displayed another aspect of her immense artistry. We adored this gem as well!

Just remember VH1 Divas, only one superstar had a show ALL FOR HERSELF! That’s right the legend, Miss Donna Summer, the greatest female voice of all time (IMO, relax). … still, seriously 4-5 octave range with the SAME POWER in ALL. She not only had power, but depth, and richness, and she could HOLD a note. Not the over used vocal gymnastics (that I call it) when you can’t hold a note because your voice will crack so you jump several notes up or down, or both. After seeing her live several times, I was just in awe of the power of her voice. Especially when she had to pull the mic several inches away to avoid distortion. Just an amazing human being. Miss her greatly.
