Te Maurea Whiritoi Super 8 2024
Ngā Tama o Hamutana competing at the annual Super 8 Cultural Festival in Taupō 2024, where they placed first overall.
Waiata Tira - He Korōria ki Te Atua (0:00)
This Choral was composed in November 1999 for Taniwharau Seniors who were preparing their national bracket for the ATMPAS Kapa Haka Competitions hosted at Turangawaewae in 2000. The ethos of the Choral was centered around the spiritual element within Kingitanga and the connection to the Ratana faith, however 'He Korōria ki te Atua' was also dedicated to the late Dame Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu because of her humility and dignity that engraved so much respect throughout Aotearoa. Nā te kaitito, nā Hone Nuku Tarawhiti ēnei kōrero.
Whakaeke - Hīnana (2:50)
This item talks of Ngāti Tūwharetoa and their the esteemed house of paramount chief Te Heuheu, and the relationship with the royal house of Pōtatau Te Wherowhero (the first Māori King), bound together by the hui at Pūkawa where it would be decided who would be King.
Waiata ā-ringa - Mahinaarangi, e (5:40)
We live in a world where teenagers are overwhelmed with social pressure to submit to pop-culture trends set by the rich and famous in numerous modern day contexts such as social media. Such trends often dictate how our young people think they need to look so that they feel accepted amongst their peers. This often results in low self-esteem and a misperception that they are less beautiful than they really are.
This item endeavors to remind our rangatahi of their beauty as young Māori woman. Their beauty extends beyond the exterior. Beauty of the mind and spirit are molded by our mana motuhake and handed down by our forbearers. Our beauty as Māori comes from the gods and our ancestors.
This song likens the beauty of our young Māori women to their ancestor Māhinaarangi, a descendant of Tamatea and Kahungunu who married Tūrongo of Waikato. The extraordinary beauty of Māhinaarangi was renown across the country and widely spoken of in tribal stories.
Haka - Te Haka a Wairangi (7:15)
This haka is performed in recognition of the strong ties between the Tainui tribe Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Tūwharetoa. It is believed by many that this is the oldest surviving haka of the Tainui peoples.
Whakawātea - Hei Konei Rā (10:00)
Our team says goodbye with this old school number, that reaffirms our identity as people of the Waikato, as people of the region of Tainui. Earlier in the year, our team visited Kāwhia, Te Tumu o Tainui, thus learning and singing this song pays homage to those experiences and the connections that were made during that hearting-touching time.

I love Maori culture and music, even not understanding any single word. The waiata from 8:10 to 10:40 reminds me the song Waikato te awa in honor of Kuini Piki, grandmother of Kuini Paki. Greetings from Zaragoza, Spain.
first song lyrics pls …
21:30
I'm not understanding a single word, but it touched my heart and I loved every second of it!
Searching for Jaedyn Randell brought me here. What I didn't expect was the group performance collectively was super emotional and vested. I don't understand a word but I felt it.. wow!
Impresionante!
Sounds south african 👀
Thank you for your music. Your music goes directly into my Soul 🙂❤️
Watching again. 0:44 -> 1:00 still brings a tear to my eye, no shame. Love it!
I’ve got exam and i dont know i end up here

Kia Kaha ❤
I'm a year 4 and love maori because I speak moari 24\7
Proud to be Māori I love my culture so much to the point where I want to join in on kapa haka and learn about my people especially myself and find out more about the past of what happened to my ancestors and tupuna so that when it comes time for us next generation of leaders to lead our country of Aotearoa I'm ready and established with the knowledge and wisdom to be able to speak up against those who are our enemies
Does anyone know the name of the lead singer of this group?!
Jaedyn Randell
The way I cried multiple times without even understanding a word they were saying. Simply beautiful.
Same here currently. Sitting here in my bed in Wiesbaden, Germany and I am crying so much. It's so stunningly beautiful, unbelievable.
would you possibly have the lyrics to the Whakaeke - Hīnana? i wish to use this for my own kapa haka group
Any chances on the lyrics for the poi??
Can anyone explain why everyone seems so emotional during the last song?
It was in memory of a guy their age who died in an accident that was written specifically for him
Big hello from france love Maori culture so much passionate till I'm young you are amazing literally chills
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
