Hi there! We are Chris, Carina, and Henri (our fur baby) from Santa Cruz, California. We are currently weekend overlanding warriors in our Four Wheel Pop-Up Camper that sits on a 2003 Ford Ranger truck. In the next few years, we plan to become full time overlanders, with the goal of visiting all (mainland) US States and Canadian Provinces, and someday tackling the PanAmerican Highway.
While we are UA-cam beginners and just learning all about vlogging, we look forward to honing our skill and creating beautiful travel vlogs for you to enjoy :)

We’ve made a number of upgrades since our last rig tour and we’re not finished yet… Earlier this year we journeyed across the historic Mojave Road on our way to Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, AZ. We stopped along the way to film this ri...

Hi, I found your channel through Adventures out there. I'm loving it so far! 🥰 I noticed Karina has a Latin accent. Where are you from?
@@ely7792 hi 👋 so glad you found us! I (Carina) am from Argentina 🇦🇷 but have lived in California since I was in elementary school 😊
I was wondering if that little pick up can have a camper!
Just discovered your channel. Livin the dream. Quick question. How are you finding the Ford Ranger? Is it holding up well throughout your travels? Handling the weight pretty well?
@@georgelee2313 we love our Ranger. We did make some upgrades to help it hold the weight of the camper and overall it has done great!
How long is your truck bed?
Our Ranger has a 6 foot bed
Lovely footage and video guys - great work.
🙀 That's the way my 03 Ranger is supposed to look! Lol... Have exactly the same one, plus a few issues and minus all the cool stuff. Still love it.
Same people, different location on a similar planet.
😱 oh no, another ton of storage story.
Thanks for letting us know that the thermo pack is worth the price, and works well for hot days.
@@djwambach6192 definitely is! And the new thermal pack that FWC makes we’ve heard is even better!
Just remember it's a Ford you'll have to fix it all the time.
Same with Government Motors and bailout Chrysler. What's your point?
Awesome video! Loved seeing the rigs, Coco's corner, and the rest :D
thanks guys! So glad you enjoyed it! We had such a good time exploring :)
Very nice 👍
Thank you!
Great video! I have a 1997 Ford Ranger, 2wd. Definitely not as heavy duty as yours, but I've been brainstorming how I'm going to build a slide in camper from scratch. I absolutely love yours! Do you know what the dimensions are of the camper?
Great video with lots of good information! Just planning my four-wheel camper purchase so very helpful! Subscribed!
Thanks! We absolutely love our FWC! Good luck with your build!
That’s so crazy! It looks like they converted an old theatre into a bookstore. Is that what happened? It looks amazing 😍
Parece no¡¡ lo convirtieron , era un cine antiguamente
I have a 2008 ranger 4.0L and tow about 1800 lbs of trailer through the mountain highways of Colorado. I have 33 In tires as well with 4:10 gear ratio. It does pretty well with it, but struggles a little on the big hills. I'm looking to get one of these. What's your camper weight, and how do you find your truck handles the weight in the bed?
Ranger crew! I hear you about the hills. The factory camper weight is 900 lbs. We’ve modified the brakes and various suspension components to handle the full time load. We still “feel” the camper but the truck manages the weight well
really nice setup! do you guys have a porter potty built in?
We don’t actually, just a shovel and sometimes we get lucky and find a good pit toilet 😆
haha cool cool thanks for the reply!@@momentarylocals
good morning, I would like to ask you how many kg your living cell weighs, thank you from Italy
Not sure. We have not weighed it in a while. And it fluctuates depending on how much water or things we are carrying of course. You can find the shell weight of the campers on Four Wheel Camper’s website though :) cheers! Thanks for watching!
@@momentarylocals thank vm
Beautiful city! 😍
kitchen/bathroom area😂😂😅
I have the same ranger year but not the 4x4 version. Hows the truck handling the extra weight and did it substantially increase mpg? We're currently refitting an old sailboat but the boats quite for away. I was thinking of getting one of these to save on hotel costs till the boats back in livable condition :D Seems like a great little camper.
Promo>SM 😏
I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina for 10 years and just returned from a 4 month visit this April. Buenos Aires Argentina and all of Argentina is totally awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍 💖 😎 👌.
Agreed ♥️
The build looks great! I especially love the subway tiles. Are you guys going to the FWC Owner's Rally in Grass Valley?
Hi guys! Thank you ♥️ we are planning on going, are you all going?! Would be awesome to see you there!
@@momentarylocals Actually yes! we are! We are visiting the US for a family event and will be at rally in a loaner FWC rig! Looking forward to seeing you there.
Until last spring La Giralda was my everyday stop, sadly they decided to charge twice as much as in most bars/restaurants; and it's not worth it. Churros are better anywhere else.
I’m sorry to hear that, it sucks when your go-to-spot raises prices! As someone living outside Argentina, we did notice the price there was a bit high, but we did absolute enjoy it! And yes there are great churros in many other places in BA as well ♥️
Bienvenidos.
Great ideas!
Nice setup. What is your stove setup? Where do keep your extra clothes and gear? Looking at doing something like this myself and need all the info I can get. Thanks
Hi Mike! Thanks for watching our tour video :) we have a portable gas stove that we stow behind our couch when not in use. We like this because it means we can cook inside or outside depending on what we feel like, and the weather. Our clothes we carry in weekender bags that just live on the couch. Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of storage for that in our set up. Works for us now though :) good luck with your build!
What kind of gas mileage do you get?
We get between 12-14 mpg, depending on conditions.
Great rig! I am looking at doing the same thing. But I’m worried about the payload capacity. Do you not exceed the payload capacity of your ranger?
I think the heavy duty, aftermarket rear springs and airbags have a higher payload rating. Not sure if the upgraded the rear hubs or not.
Thanks for this well done synopsis of your affordable and comfortable mini travel home! My son is a tradesman and is currently working on building a similar prototype for personal use and a possible product to sell. Your video is one of the best informative and enjoyable I've seen!
Thank you Ken! Appreciate your kind words! And best of luck to you son on his build!
Can you guys walk through it? Or is it closed off?
It was closed off, but likely what made the acoustics so fun!
Chant “curse the weather makers to all die”
Can you sugest a good option for air mattress?
We use Exped mattress based on recommendations from other FWC owners. We did not try any others but are pretty happy with the Expeds.
What is your toilet set up? Nicely done! Cheers!
Thanks Scott for watching! We use public toilets when available, and when not, we use a shovel to dig a hole and then pack out our TP.
Breathtakingly beautiful
It really is! It was one of our favorite places in Portugal!
Very unique architecture 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Right?! We loved it!
just got an eagle a few months ago and plan on doing a few mods to it. thanks for sharing!
Right on! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your camper. I have thought about this option many times as well. I do get concerned about the vinyl not being as secure during storms or cold but you two make it look easy.
Thanks Rita! The thermal pack from FWC certainly helps with keeping the heat in (we discuss this in our latest tour video, don’t recall if we mention it in this one). However, when it’s windy, it does make for an bad night sleep, because of the noise and rattling. Luckily, we’ve only experienced this on two occasions!
Do you have heat? Is the truck 3/4 Ton? Automatic? Is your water filtered? How do you go to the toilet and where? What did you pay for the camper shell?
Hi Bill! We answer many of these questions in our latest video :) ua-cam.com/video/OYiRCFh9Agw/v-deo.html
Is the power pack/solar/inverter a 4 wheel pkg. product ? Its just all the other boils have it setting on the river side bench (in the way of every thing also the Roll over bed does the back fold into the Isle ? Thank you, Mike
Hi Michaèl! Thanks for watching our tour video! Our power system was not from FWC, we built it ourselves, but you can get it from them. And yes the rollover couch does fold back into the aisle.
Excellent straightforward review, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
I was going to suggest you put Reflectix on the side and front windows for cold or hot weather, but I see at the end you have it on the side window already. It really makes a difference in my Fleet SD.
Agreed! We do put it up on all windows at night. The side window has it on all the time :)
Hey Guys! So nice to meet fellow truck camping UA-camrs! We will be going fulltime in a pop-up truck camper... Your pup is adorable! Love the campsite you found... Great way to spend the night! Thanks for sharing! 💙Terry and Terri
Thank! Always awesome to find fellow truck campers! What kind of pop up truck do you have?
@@momentarylocals We have a 1984 Skamper and just love it! ;-) Looking forward to camping in it fulltime. ;-) You are welcome!!
Have y'all ever thought of putting the camper on a trailer? This will give you a better air drag coefficiency and lower your overall center of gravity. It might even help with your fuel mileage. I'd add a camper shell for more covered bed storage.
Hi Ted. Thanks for watching! A trailer is not something we have considered as it would make it harder to get to the off the beaten path spots we like to get to 😊
@Momentary Locals That's not true. There's a video on UA-cam of a guy using this exact setup while going "off the beaten path." If you're going Overlanding (no roads/trails), you're putting yourself in danger with such a 'high center of gravity ' rig as it can tip over a lot easier when doing light to moderate rock/trail crawling.
Hi, nice rig. We just recently ordered us a truck camper as well. Delivery not until May of 2023. Can't wait, until then we enjoy overlanding with our Leer camper shell. Just subbed and look forward to see where you guys go.
Thanks for following along! Luckily May is right around the corner but I’m sure it will feel like forever! What camper did you order?
Thanks for sharing your camper it’s nice to know we don’t have to spend tens of thousand to enjoy travel! You’ve done an awesome job on your build, I have a Nissan Frontier 4x4 and have been looking for over a year now for either a Four Wheel camper or a Phoenix Mini for my truck. I only mention these two cause I know they build to fit my truck 😊 I’m a photographer by hobby 😂 and love shooting landscapes, buildings and my favorite TREES! So looking for a camper to fit the truck I have so I don’t have to buy another. Anyone got one for sell give me a holler! 😊 Again great video and loved the bloopers at the end!! ❤ I subscribed and liked to follow y’all’s adventures! Have Fun & Stay Safe! - Tim
Thanks Tim! We love our FWC and all the places our rig can take us!
I don’t get why so many people are using diesel heaters when their vehicles are gas. It seems like it would be easier to plumb the heater to the vehicle fuel tank than to have a separate fuel tank for a different fuel.
Gasoline fired heaters exist but they are MUCH more expensive and can be cost prohibitive. There are many more options for diesel.
In Europe and UK especially we have many many diesel vehicles as better fuel consumption and safer, particularly on Campers and Boats.👍
Nice build! It would be great to have more info on the diesel heater install in another video.
Thank you! We have thought about doing one at some point!
