A18 Grey Squirrel Trap from Goodnature, UK - 29 Jul 2021
This A18 Grey Squirrel trap is mounted on a tree below a tawny owl box. The squirrels had been harassing the owls and had stolen one egg earlier in the season.

I finally got to the range and was able to test the Pro Hunter Swaging light weight 13gr 0.177 hollow point slugs from my sub-12 ftlb Weihrauch HW100. The first problem I encountered was that after 15 months without much shooting I am very rusty so I am sure that tighter groups would be possible in more capable hands. However, the chronograph was showing only just over 10ftlb muzzle energy for ...

THE GREATEST NUT NEVER CRACKED TGSD ABERDEEN: THE LAST BATTLE
The work going on in the Aberdeen area to eradicate the grey squirrels is very heartening. This success shows that where there is the will positive change can happen. I can only imagine the joy of seeing red squirrels again inside the city of Aberdeen. All the best.
Dude, it literally says smooth barrel on the box... like it is right there in front of you. Yet you are saying it is a rifled barrel???
Correct - it is a rifled barrel.
But hooowww?? It says on the box that it's smooth bore. 😮
Is it auto?
Hi, No it is not full auto. It is semi auto - each shot recocks the hammer and then the initial 'first stage' of the trigger pull rotates the mag to present the next pellet.
The A-18 is indeed available in the USA. I just purchased one on Amazon. Setting it up today.
Hi, Good luck with the A18 trapping. Remember that good fieldcraft is essential for best success. I recommend pressing the bait paste into the basket so a few 'spaghetti' strands of the bait dangle out of the bottom of the basket and provide an enticing aroma inside the A18. Experiment with different baits, such as peanut butter, hazelnut paste, a dab of Nutella, etc, to find the bait that your local squirrels can't resist. This video has many other tips that I have learned from my experience using the A18 traps. All the best.
Great video thanks, I have just been given one of these! Does anyone have a link for the laser sight please? Thanks.
Hi Nick, There are lots of these Chinese laser sights available on Ebay and elsewhere. I have several different models and they all have pros and cons. I would suggest getting a small neat laser for a pistol. The thing is they are all cheap as chips and last about as long. HoHo. The one you see on this gun is I think this model available on UK Ebay - eBay item number:386899316124 (just search on this item number). I is nice and flat and unobtrusive under the barrel. One tip I would give you is when you get your sight and check the battery type I would advise buying a strip of the batteries and keeping them in the case - there is nothing more frustrating than setting up to shoot only to find that the batteries are exhausted. Second tip - don't waste your money on premium pellets. Choose a light weight pellet. See my review of H&N Excite Econ II - ua-cam.com/video/669_SOr5UX0/v-deo.htmlsi=EXMNjhRfdTWpu38N All the best.
@@Incognito1-1 Hi, thanks. I like your for as you say it is unobtrusive and quite compact. I'll take a look around thanks for the info I appreciate it, I will buy a supply of batteries too. Thanks again.
What trap be this?
Hi Johnny, this trap is made by Goodnature and it is the A18 for grey squirrels. They also make a very similar but smaller A24 for rats and mice. If you are in the UK. - www.goodnaturetraps.co.uk All the best.

???
About how much for these in us dollars?
Hi Paul, In the UK these A18 traps cost £169 direct from Goodnature. They are available in the US now and I would expect the price to similar. These traps are pricey but as soon as you handle me NE you realise that they are well built using high quality plastics and stainless. If you get one then I recommend either purchasing or making a metal cover to stop the squirrels chewing on it. All the best.
The squirrels in my area would figure out how to disable or even disassemble that thing...these squirrels are evil 🙈
Hi Bernard, The squirrels don't get the chance to learn - they only make one trip into the trap! However, I strongly recommend fitting the metal cover to prevent them chewing on the outside of the trap. When I setup my first trap the squirrels chewed through the top cover to get to the bait directly. Prevention is better than cure - fit a metal cover. All the best.
That is an awsome killing trap. Their should b a larger version for humans so we could rid the earth of the real menis that is destroying everything on this planet ( man )if u don't like wildlife then don't live In Their territory. No brainer
I'd love to see the evidence of the product... Has it been productive!?
Hi, Yes the A18 trap has been productive. It is not a magic bullet - to be effective the user has to experiment with different baits to find the one such as hazlenut paste or peanut butter than the local squirrels find irresistible. If used properly then yes the A18 is very effective. See the A18 in action in another of my videos: ua-cam.com/video/lr0TVShiAC4/v-deo.html All the best.
Do they have one that will work on Raccoons?
Where can I buy the metal cover
Hi, I got mine in the UK from goodnaturetraps.co.uk/product-category/trapping-accessories/ The covers are made from heavy gauge aluminium with a durable power coated paint finish. One of mine is green and the other 2 are brown. Before these covers became available I made my own out of a baked bean can with appropriate holes snipped out to make it fit over the bait cover. Looked like Ned Kelly armour but did the job. However if you can get the official cover it is infinitely better than my homemade cover. All the best.
Who makes a small suppressor
Hi Anthony, Unfortunately the extended barrel is threaded with an unusual 14mm thread rather than the usual 1/2'' UNF. It is probably best therefore to buy an adaptor that allows you to use a standard suppressor. Here is an adaptor: www.jsramsbottom.com/guntuff-umarex-ux-sa10-co2-pistol-silencer-moderator-adaptor-1-2-unf-male-thread.html Hope this helps.
I need this trap, where can you buy one at?
Hi, In the UK the A18 Grey Squirrel trap can be purchased from: Goodnaturetraps.co.uk They are also now available in the US but I don't have details of the supplier. All the best.
This is absolutely disgusting. Anyone that finds this humane needs to take a look at themselves a little better all life matters just because you were born a human doesn’t mean yours is worth more Squirrels plant the Earth that tree is not yours. It’s mother nature leave it.
Very interested but high price is off-putting. I will however buy one if service parts are available. Imagine 4 or 5 years down the line... co2 cylinder seal, piston seal, bait, trip mechanism etc. If I can get a good few years out of it then it's a yes please. Can anyone enlighten me on long term ownership/faults/spares etc.....
Hi, I agree that these traps are pricey but they are made of high quality materials. One of my traps was leaking CO2 recently and I stripped it down. The design uses custom silicone diaphragms rather than standard sized orings. However, after stripping and cleaning all the parts I applied a tiny amount of silicone grease and reassembled and the trap works fine again now. To get the best life out of the traps I would recommend applying a single drop of silicone oil to the end of the CO2 cylinder every time it is replaced and this will maintain the seal. If storing the trap removed the CO2 so that the seal isn't compressed. I know it is more expense but I also highly recommend buying the metal cover since it protects the trap from being chewed by squirrels and from damaging sunlight. All the best
In more recent videos, you have the A18 in a metal enclosure. Is that something you fabricated and if not, where did you obtain that enclosure? I have read many complaints from A18 users who have had squirrels chew into the plastic bait cup cover.
Trash👎 if you can't even show the squirrel fall and don't even make a video. 5 minutes and 23 seconds of nonsense
What trouble were the squirrels causing BTW
do you have a link to order this?
Hi David, I bought my A18 traps from: goodnaturetraps.co.uk/product-category/a18-squirrel-traps/ I would recommend getting the metal guard cover because I did have a trap damaged by squirrels chewing through the tough plastic top cap. The guard protects the whole trap and also shields it from the damaging UV in sunlight. The A18 is now available in the USA but I don't have a link to a supplier. All the best.
How loud is the trap when it goes off?
All that smacking why do people do that like it makes then sound more professional when they talk
Hi Jason, I will try to learn from all your videos! HoHo!! All the best.

Tree chicken is mighty fine eat'n
Hi, I know that the squirrels are much appreciated for wild meat in the US. In the UK this meat is not popular and only eaten by a small proportion of hunters. Although, having said that, I suspect that wild game meat is slowly becoming more sought after as people begin to realise the benefits of eating pure wild meat. All the best.
zu Lwowitz Problems with SA 10 and those circular mini-mags (clips) is evident from instruction videos and users’ review letters . I have shot several thousands steel BBs (they are faster than any pellet and make more recognizable impact ) and pellets of at least three basic materials : lead , composites , and single light metals with the range from 3.9 gr to 7.9 gr ( by far the best were all-steel 5.4 gr BBs ). All the pellets did was to ruin my first SA 10 by getting out of the clip with bores in the rubber too big and getting stuck in the big mag with no easy way to get the mag out ; couple of them even crashed into each other in the barrel when the first somehow got stuck there ( all open to confirm by my dealer ) . So , now I am merrily shooting only BBs using only the “BB plastic clip ,”----- hoping that some dealer sells me couple of these BB PLASTIC CLIPS for a few bucks----- and both , me and my SA 10 , will be happy .
Every one of these you kill, is one less squarls to plat a forest of hardwoods. They harvest nuts, bring them to a nest fir winter, some are packed on the ground and forgotten about. Later the husk gets wet enough to let the seed get started years later you have a forest of hardwoods native trees. It makes since to live catch relocate and let go in a wild life area.

where do I get one? I live in united states
Hi, The A18 trap has relatively recently become available in the US. I just googled and the first supplier that popped up was: www.automatictrap.com/products/a18-squirrel-trap-kit However, as with all shopping these days it pays to do your research. All the best.
What size ammunition should i use (pellets)
Hi, The PT-85 accepts 4.5mm (or 0.177 inch) pellets. I would suggest that you choose a very light weight pellet. Flat head (wad cutter) pellets will cut paper targets cleanly making scoring easier. There is no need to spend a lot of money on very high quality pellets. My personal recommendation is the H&N Excite Econ II pellets that are good quality and very good value for money. See my review of these pellets on this channel. All the best.

so trash they quit producing them haha losers!!
Hello, Excuse my ignorance on this but are these legal to use in my garden ? I have about 4/5 squirrels constantly raiding the bird feeders, so i stopped using them. They dig up my garden constantly and raided 3 birds nests in my garden just last year. I'm sick and tired of them. Ps are the totally safe for birds ?
Hi, Yes, the Goodnature A18 is licenced in the UK for the control of the invasive grey squirrels. So yes the A18 is legal to use in your garden. See the manufacturers website - goodnaturetraps.co.uk/shop/a18-grey-squirrel-trap/ The grey squirrels do a huge amount of damage to UK songbirds and to our trees. I operate 3 of these A18 traps and I have never seen evidence of any non-target species being harmed. Some years ago I obtained an extra safeguard which was simply a piece of smooth plastic sheet that fitted between the tree and the trap and extended maybe 100mm below the trap entrance. The idea being that any bird that attempted to land below the trap would not be able to obtain the grip on the smooth surface needed to lift itself up into the mouth of the trap. All the best.
Squirrels are the dumbest animals in the animal kingdom. They still haven’t learned how to look both ways.
I bet you those were counted as covid deaths 😂
They certainly "tested positive" for brain damage after getting hit!

Did any squirrels go for the trap after seeing an already dead one on the bottom or are they smart enough to know something’s up?
Hi . Thanks for the good review. Which brand of laser sight do you use.
Hi, I don't buy 'branded' sights for these CO2 pistols. Most are Chinese made junk. When selecting a sight on eBay I look for the battery type, one-off switch type etc. Some of these sights use 3x ridiculously small sized silver button batteries that run down quickly. The model on this pistol has a slide switch and it became loose pretty quickly. The model that you can see on some of my other pistols has a much better latching push button one-off. However, the model has the very small batteries. But back to my original point remember that these are mass produced junk so it is probably wise to be guided by price and not be swayed too much by 'branded' products that come out of the same factory with just some added white stencilling. All the best.
Can it use any old CO2 cartridge? I have over a hundred cartridges that I use for my air guns. The cartridges for this items seem kinda expensive ....
Hi Vince, No, these traps use the slightly larger 16g CO2 cylinders that have a screw thread around the neck. I buy them in packs of 20 and get a decent price but they are definitely more expensive than the 12g cylinders that I use in my pistols. See my channel for some reviews of CO2 pistols, gun cases, pellets etc. All the best, Martin

This trap doesn’t work at all for squirrels , fake video
Hi Jason, I don't have any association with the manufactures of the A18 trap. I share these videos to raise awareness of the effectiveness of the traps. You can actually see these traps in operation and working in 2 of my videos. I have previously explained that the traps are not a magic bullet and that the user needs to employ good field craft and choose the bait that the local squirrels find irresistible - hazelnut paste, peanut butter, almond butter etc. The proof I offer is that after spending my hard earned money to buy my first A18, I have gone on to buy a further 2 and now operate 3 of the A18 traps. There is no fakery - in the right hands these traps are efficient and on duty 24/7. All the best.
I have had two of these traps set up in my garden for two and a half years. I have a terrible issue with neighbours feeding squirrels and they won't stop. So far I have dispatched 116 of them using these traps. So definitely not a fake video and I have a few of my own as proof. As incognito says it does require time and patience and luring them with nice fresh Nutella or the like!
@@dellara100damn, that’s a great number! 😎
@@Asstazzticnow at 139. I used to speak to the company that manufacture the traps and they had one woodland trust that had them up and dispatched 750 of them. Now probably double that. The squirrels had done a huge amount of damage to the trees 😢
Great idea to put that cap on top of the A-18, I saw a lot of photos where the squirrel had chewed right through the plastic top to get to the bait. I don't know what your cover is made from, but, probably a good idea to make it out of metal that cannot be chewed. thanks whoever you are!
Hi Jane, Yes, I found out the hard way when squirrels chewed through the top cap on my first trap. I used tin snips to cut a slot in a baked bean tin so that it could fit over the trap. I sprayed it black and added a wire to allow it to be secured to the trap after baiting. It looked sort of like Ned Kelly armour but it did the job. Goodnature kindly sent me a replacement top and then told me when they produced heavy gauge aluminium covers. I highly recommend fitting the covers and they also protect the trap from the UV in sunlight. All the best.
will it harm brown squirrels?
Hi Philip, You raise an important point. The A18 is licensed in the UK for use against the invasive grey squirrels. In the UK the greys have already driven the native red squirrels from virtually all of England apart from a couple of reserves. It is therefore safe to deploy the A18 in England since there is very little chance of trapping a non target species. In the borders areas where there may be mixed populations of grey and red squirrels I would strongly advise that the A18 should not be used. All the best.
Get a gamo laser they are absolutely amazing
Thanks for the tip Paul. Can you add a model number or a link? I think 'Gamo' maybe a generic product with branding added. All the best.
How the fk do they get into the loft?
Hi, Squirrels get in to loft spaces through any existing holes but more often by chewing through the wood around the roofline. About 4 years ago a neighbour asked for my help when squirrels were chewing on their house trying to get in. Every morning their young daughter was being woken by the noise at daybreak. Those squirrels died of lead poisoning. All the best.
Where to get these traps?
Hi Charles, In the UK they can be purchased from: goodnaturetraps.co.uk/humane-squirrel-traps/ Several viewers have mentioned in the comments that the A18 is now available in the US but I don't have a link. Try Googling 'Goodnature A18' . All the best.
Would these be ok for a Hw99s for plinking?
Hi Chris, Yes, I think that it would be worth trying these H&N Excite Econ II in your HW99S. Given that they performed well even out to 40yds and the very low price they certainly deserve a look. I shot them straight from the tin without any sorting so they impressed me. I buy in bulk from JS Ramsbottom and get keen pricing, reasonable postage and the pellets are very well packed and arrive in perfect condition. www.jsramsbottom.com/h-n-excite-econ-hobby-ii-pellets-177-4-50mm-7-4gr-500-.html All the best.
