My Ancient Artifact in Operation
I'll be publishing the details regarding my restoration (accomplished with zero funds) of this remarkably engineered, nearly century-old artifact -- which dates to around 1925 -- as soon as possible. Without the aid of various 21st century resources available via the Internet -- and especially Google Search, Google Books, and UA-cam -- this project would have been impossible, and there are individuals to thank as well. As the familiar composition progresses, and becomes increasingly frantic (especially in its latter portion), we see and hear the incredible range of this data processing and performance system, a complex melding of digital and analog mechanisms that don't even use any electricity, and would set the pattern for technology still in use today. It still needs more work, and is only roughly tuned -- but the tuning must be done very gradually to avoid damage to the strings or soundboard. Right now I also have it pitched a half semitone lower than international standard to further reduce stress on the system. In any case, I hope that Bugs Bunny -- and Tom & Jerry -- would be proud! Enjoy.

Ray Bradbury Speaking at UCLA - April 8, 1998 (Never Online Before)
Переглядів 14 тис.12 років тому
Acclaimed Author Ray Bradbury passed away yesterday, June 5, 2012, at the age of 91. In celebration of his life, I'd like to share with you a recording from just over 14 years ago, from a tape that's been sitting on a shelf behind me since I recorded it, on April 8, 1998. It's never been online before. On that day, UCLA was screening François Truffaut's 1966 film version of Ray's 1953 classic "...

Thank you for this. I had the privilege of working on Ray's last project and am now working on another Bradbury project with actor Bill Oberst, Jr. It has the blessing of his family and estate so I want to get it right. I listened to this whole thing while at work on it. Cheers.

Thank you for posting this. I first met Ray Bradbury around this time in 1998. He was a close friend of my great aunt. I later visited him at his home.

Thank you for recording this, saving this, and posting this for all of us. I love the fact that UCLA has been posting its lecture series form the 1960s and early 1970s. I also hope that other people who may have recorded events like this come forward and post them. This is history we should not loose in the back of a closet. Thank you again.

The late Ray Bradbury speaks of his relationship with Ray Harryhausen in this talk, that I recorded live in 1998.
