This is pretty cool, I took your karabiner dotfiles and modified it to set the sublayer variable to 1 on keybind press and then to 0 on command execution or esc so it works more like a leader key. (caps+o then let go press d to open discord for example).
Your keyboard sounds absolutely amazing! What is that?! Awesome video btw lol. I watched your last video when you were talking about your tmux config and I still use it to this day! Keep going!
You also have Amethyst for MacOs. In my experience, it’s more reliable than aerospace.
now do this in arch
For the most of it, not really an issue. The dotfiles for zsh, ghostty, tmux and nvim will just work. All you need to do is install a tiling window manager and set up the same bindings.
its easier in arch with i3 haha
for me standard vim keybinds and raycast window management is god tier - nvim and tmux inside ghostty
Nice content !! Love your ghostty theme !
Could you make a video to share your terminal settings or provide resources about your setup process?
3:58 wowowo, how do you have that window from the right side, is that obsidian?
thats the raycast quick notes
I seriously just do not get why people care about what terminal theyre using. Ive used Konsole for like, ages now because that was what shipped with kde. Its aight. I dont really see how having like 20 more fps would improve my experience considering i literally could not even think of a task where the rate at which my terminal updates matters. I mean, terminal themes are nice i guess? But you can get those in every terminal. Im not saying i dislike ghostty, i just really struggle to understand anyone who cares about what terminal theyre using. Id get it if these arguments were about like, zsh vs bash or fish because that actually impacts your experience in a meaningful way, but the terminal?
Sorry if you answered this question before, but what config is responsible for the looks of the bottom part of your terminal? Centered tmux sessions, battery and wifi status on the right, current git branch and directory on the left? The same in neovim. Basically, I would like the same looks without any additional features since I've just started tinkering with Linux, configs etc.
I fucking love that TMUX theme
Thanks
Close to the most annoying simulated random keyboard noise ever - you could have at least attempted to make the sound occur when a character was being typed on the screen. Please share with us how you succeeded in making keyboard clicks this annoying, maybe another UA-cam video. Your scrolling demo gave me a headache as I tried to figure out how youtube was going to display your 157 hurts screen, then you managed to demonstrate nothing at all other than you have dirt or shit all over your screen. No need making it to the end. Thanks for your various efforts, but I think I'll go evaluate it with my obviously better 158 hurts screen.
What is your termianl emulator 😅
@@Moddingmonster11 its wezterm
check out 'tilix' - old, fast, tiling terminal
Uhm... Alacritty is built with rust as well?
What a braindead hype for something unspectacular like a terminal.
Is there arc for linux?
@@Hfdzlvm unfortunately no but Zen is on linux and is great alternative
Can you make a video how to manage .dotfile from scratch?
Just wanted to let you know you misspelled Ghostty in the thumbnail
Somewhat spicy take: Zig was an excellent choice and Rust would have ruined it *somehow.* ...I need more Zig in my life.
I didn't even know about all the stuff i needed. THANK YOU!
Did you set your prompt like that in your shell profile or something? Doesn't come with Ghostty but I want it! The one that's like "-> ~/.config/ghostty at (github logo) on main"
its a prompt for the shell "Starship" you can check the starship config example from my dotfiles link pinned in the comments
@sethyedw thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. Checked out Starship and got it up and working. Cheers!
Try ghostty terminal
To notion and other apps you need to configure the plugin using API from particular services that you want to use to
Is this worth switching from wezterm for?
you can try it out first its not hard config
Very nice list. I didn't know nothing with some applications. I will try those as well.
Which terminal console is this?
this was wezterm
What's it that tmux theme? Looks good
its a custom theme with catpuccin colors
@@sethyedw Yeah, I found it familiar, nice custom version, looks clean <3
what about this wallpaper? can you give some link to download it?
WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOUR WEEB BACKGROUNDS FROM?
Hey! Nice vid, liked it. You have a new sub now I guess :D
My Ghostty seems to be slower starting up compared to Kitty
What operating system are you using?
@angolatechreviews8420 Arch
I gave kitty a rest and installed ghostty. It is an outstanding terminal emulator. Easy to configure. I do like the context menu too. Give it a go!
Let's see how long it takes to get on the official Gentoo repos
bro, what is the name of this wallpaper?
not sure abt the name but I pinned the link to it in the comments
@@sethyedw bro, you linked to the website. there are billions of wallpapers on that website, how could i find your wallpaper?
@bkr_418 said in the top comments it is found under Lord of the Rings section
nice video thanks 👍 are you using any window tiler?
yeah I use aerospace
I'm using kitty, and downloaded ghostty as soon as it released. Did not see any difference, switched back to kitty.
I saw a lot of difference mainly that kitty has features and ghostty not 🤭
@darukutsu ghostty is still new, maybe features will be added later, but gtk lib-adwita apps have wired large curser issue on non gnome desktop environments... It's bugging me...
You can list keybinds with WezTerm too using show-keys option like so $ wezterm show-keys or did I misunderstand what you were missing? Anyway, glad you found your new favourite terminal, have fun working with it! I will probably stick to WezTerm, at least for now.
the main reason I switched is cuz my tmux panes were freezing in wez
Using tmux nullifies all of the advantages of native terminal emulator
Why?
@@vasker3020 try first google search results: replies from Wez and creator of kitty
found out about this from 4chan surprisingly. So far I kinda love it :)) coming from Foot
I'm already using ghostty and the only reason I switched from wezterm to ghostty was I'm on an old laptop because my pc got faulty. And even on my old laptop I can feel the snappiness of ghostty. I seriously don't like switching my tools too much and with ghostty I just had to it was that good of an experience.
got 6 min into it and revamped my fzf and telescope plugin for nvim. It is now insanely powerful
I'd been stuck with plain old gnome terminal because all the fancy speedy terminals were missing some pretty basic usability features or had other issues that made switching not worth it. Trying Ghostty took all of 5 minutes before it made it obvious that it's just better. It's *actually user-friendly* and you can plainly see the thought that has gone into making it something you want to use.
lately I do feel like not wasting too much head space abt deeply configuring things that should already work cuz then I would actually get work done.
i just cant see a reason to switch from alacrity apart from image rendering which just isnt important to me. is there any other reason other than ghostyy is just a cooler name? *edit* command mode in terminal looks pretty sweet
Exactly the same for me too
Hey i have seen in several terminal setups, you guys have tabs at the bottom for e.g 1)zsh 2)nvim 3)zsh how does on achieved this ?
tmux
@ but isnt op using ghostty ? Is it possible to use tmux with ghosttyy + nvim , any pointers on this would be super helpful.
@@aaran5914 I would watch dreamsofcodes video on tmux
@@aaran5914 tmux is a shell program that runs inside of a terminal (just like how bash runs inside of a terminal, for example) and it it's almost like having a window manager + extra features in your terminal. it's called a terminal multiplexer (hence the name tmux), which means that tmux runs programs like bash, vim, and whatever else you normally run in your terminal, but tmux runs them inside of a tmux session, and inside that tmux session you can split windows, switch windows, disconnect from the session, reconnect, and more. some terminal emulators themselves support some of these features, but with tmux you can achieve this in any terminal, even over an ssh connection on another machine. normally if you ssh into another machine and run a command like vim, and you lose connection, your vim instance shuts down and you lose your progress. or if you were copying a large file in an ssh connection and the connection drops, the copy gets aborted as the command's controlling terminal becomes disconnected. what tmux lets you do is connect to a remote machine, then open a tmux session, inside of which you can run any number of commands, and then if you lose connection, you merely disconnect from the tmux session, which is still internally running all your commands. you can then reconnect to the machine with ssh, and then reattach to the tmux session, where your previous session is still running uninterrupted. an earlier and popular program that existed before tmux for the same purpose is called GNU screen
@@aaran5914 seth said in the video, he uses tmux in ghostty. to have nvim and shells in there as well he can just open them in a new tmux window and swap between using the tmux keybinds, the tmux windows will be what is shown at the bottom
The sound of your thocky keyboard 🤤
Eh it uses toml so I’m not a big fan of it, lua is the perfect config language
How do you get your terminal to have those visual cues on the bottom corners, and how do you get it to have those nifty git and github icons?
Im not sure which one you mean, if its the one above the bottom tabs thats a neovim plugin lualine
Eh it uses tonl so I’m not a big fan of it, lua is the perfect config language
I got this error for fzf after I edited the zshrc: .zshrc:export:131: not valid in this context: FZF_ALT_C_COMMAND-fd --type
fixed, I just pasted your code from your repo. Thanks for having that ;)
Been waiting for the release. So far I like everything, but struggling to make clipboard copy/pasting work.
maybe add this line to ur config copy-on-select = clipboard
@@sethyedw Thank you, will try that.
