Periodontal Scaling in Cats & Dogs
Переглядів 176 тис.5 років тому
Periodontal disease is a huge threat to your pet's health. Bacterial builds on their teeth, getting absorbed into their bloodstream. This tartar accumulates over time and can even kill the tooth root itself. We include digital radiographs in every dental procedure to ensure every root is healthy. Dental health is crucial to keeping our pets happy and healthy. Plus, it keeps their breath kissable!

Nice video
does the same paste container get used for multiple cases?
Use the side of the tip not the point. Watch a human video. And that was not the same device. It had water
Thank you for such a great video.
Don't remove teeth unnecessarily. There are canine dentists who will do fillings and other procedures.
babies. ???????????
Why is this woman speaking as if she’s explaining all of this to a 5 year old???🤷🏼♀️
Please be aware of so called inexpensive 'cosmetic dental cleaning' vs a complete and correct veterinary dental cleaning. Totally 2 different procedures. Cosmetic cleaning does not include xrays, sedation, ultrasonic cleaning and buffing, bloodwork, preop and postop care.
Take care of your fur buds teeth before it's too late. I regret so much and feel like a terrible pet owner not brushing or taking in my buddy to get a cleaning more often. He had severe dental disease and the plaque just ruined his gums and chewing teeth. He had more than 30 teeth removed and only has his four canines left and can only eat soft foods for the rest of his life. It's expensive but your dog is your family.
This. My dog was healthy for 12 years then developed mitral regurgitation (heart murmur) which made anesthesia more dangerous. He had bad tartar build up and needed a dental cleaning. I should have brushed his teeth from the beginning and deeply regret it. Fortunately he did well under anesthesia.
I feel fucking horrible I'm this situation. Her teeth are bad.
Thank you madam today I came to know how to wrap bandage & thair knowledge, 👍
My horse is 20+ in age and has a permanently damaged tendon in his left hind leg. The vet said i should keep his leg wrapped all the time, with upward support around his hock. If you could help me find a wrap that is easy to put on, it would be very appreciated!!!
Can we ride the horse after it gets tendon. How many days it will take to cure tendon? Is there any medication like prescription or Injections
Thank you, job well done...
Total cost-$23,000 🤦🏽♀️
I was quoted $600
No way
They took out a perfectly fine tooth here. That's horrific
Yeah, I was shocked when I saw that too 😳
The tooth may have looked fine but the periodontium may have been diseased badly!
Yeah I do not trust these vets. Thank goodness my pets let me brush and scale their teeth myself at home.
@@NovaPrincessYeah but you can’t scale under the gumline like they can. A tooth can look perfectly healthy, but the gum tissue and bone may be diseased
@@ghoultoothI bought my own scaling tool and will start scaling their teeth every few months myself. I will not support these greedy vets- drowning in student loan debt- any of my money to 'help' perfectly healthy pets. They can kick rocks.
I just got my dog's teeth cleaned last year it seems. She needs it done again! I went to MY dentist and she said one of my teeth I don't chew with and that it caused super tartar buildup Well NOW my dog doesn't chew her food at ALL Lick and swallow. Even the kibble Dental sticks, gnaw a chunk off, SWALLOW the Chunk Gotta take my dog in for. 2nd cleaning in as many years Brushing her teeth EVERY day after this
The video should be titled "Perodontal scaling in dogs"
Thank you for horsd f ou rst aid presentation. Jussojuan surender singal
My horse possibly cut her extensor tendon April 2020. Right in at covid shut down. Local vets didn't have ultrasound or xray for large animal. So we treated symptoms. Stall rest 15 months off. First ride the trainer said she felt like a flat tire. She has the typical large ankle. Doesn't show lameness.
Question is i guess. Is this injury a retirement injury? She is 6yr old.
Do you need a referral? Or can we just make a apt? For every 6 months or once a year?
My dogs just had teeth cleaning and their teeth look amazing 🤩
If you are from india, Can you tell me how much does it cost in india? Thank you. Please do reply
@@shinchannohara586did you get it done for your dog?
How to destroy harden tArtar?
I love that she calls them babies
How much is a teeth cleaning at this location?
I paid $260 plus they made me get a rabies shot ! & then i got home and my dogs teeth were clean but there was still spots that had black specks !! TOO MUCJ MONEY FOR THEM TO NOT BE PRECISE AND PROFESSIONAL CLEANING!!
I felt broke after watching this what is sad is I can get my horse sedated and his teeth cleaned for half the cost as a small dogs teeth cleaning
Right? Just spent 1k for my 15lb dog
I believe you have mistaken equine dental 'floating', filing of the horses sharp teeth points, as an equine dental clean. Also only light sedation is required for horses, sometimes none at all, and definitely not full sedation, intubation and monitoring.
Because sedation is not the same as anaesthetic
It's ridiculous. Private equity has bought all the veterinary practices and the rates have skyrocketed.
I never knew my cats teeth needed to be brushed and now she has severe gingivitis and my family doesn’t have the expenses for a cleaning and I can tell my cats in pain :/
Can you really? Or do you just think that now that you’ve taken the time to actually look at your pets teeth? Brush at home. Slow and steady. Save up for the procedure if you want, or take care of it yourself at home.
@@scorpionattitude well she was, she was sick and the time and it was validated when we went to the vet where they concluded she had a fever due to gingivitis because she wasn’t eating her food and was throwing up more than usual ..... you can tell things are off through their actions just how you would with a child .... it’s not rocket science
@@scorpionattitude well she was, she was sick and the time and it was validated when we went to the vet where they concluded she had a fever due to gingivitis because she wasn’t eating her food and was throwing up more than usual ..... you can tell things are off through their actions just how you would with a child .... it’s not rocket science. Also I have been brushing her teeth for over a year now she got severe gingivitis bc I was away at college and my family wouldn’t brush her teeth and it got to point where her teeth were disintegrating
My dog got an abscess in her tooth that bled for a day due to no oral care for 12 years! (We didn’t really know that was something you had to do with dogs, we’ve also never had a dog that lived this long) They gave her antibiotics and pain killer and immediately I noticed a difference, I felt really bad because I hadn’t noticed before how much pain she must have been in 🥺😢 We are in the same situation as you, I am now trying to slowly incorporate oral care but her plaque is SO BAD I just pray that the abscess doesn’t come back. This has turned my eye to my cat and I am now trying to get some of his plaque build up! Though it isn’t nearly as bad.
Same thing I never knew about dog tooth brushing but I recently found out a little to late although her teeth aren’t horrible but they’re still pretty bad and her breath smells i plan to get her teeth professionally cleaned but if they have to extract teeth it will be 1000+ but if they don’t have to do extractions then around 700 so I’m hoping they don’t have to extract some of her teeth so expensive! Definitely brush your pets teeth while you have the chance instead of paying a lot of money in the future when your pet has to get some teeth extracted she is a small dog so she’s more prone to bad teeth as she is a 10 year old Bichon
Save money by avoiding this procedure. -Only feed dog hard kibbel( no canned food or human food) - Add brushing of teeth into puppy training even if it literally 1 minute, do it about 3 times a week. - Give the dog dental care treats a few times a week.( Ones that require a lot of chewing( - Add dental care additives to the dogs water.
Wish I could get my grandmother to quit feeding my 5lb dog like it’s some fat kid begging for food. She says,,, well he just keeps eating so I keep giving them to him. Shits ridiculous 🤦🏾♀️
kibble is awful for dogs health, feed raw !
Sometimes it's too late to start brushing
@@chaolinchao8332 sometimes feeding raw while healthy, isn’t possible. In my dog’s case, he has a very sensitive stomach. So we feed him special kibble mixed in with water and any meat baby food.
Even with daily brushing you cannot avoid regular dentals, they are essential for oral health & tooth longevity! -a vet student
approximately how much can this type of intervention, including x-rays, cost?
It’s like $500-700 CAD yet I can get my 1200 horse teeth cleaned for $300
@@katdorsey1779 it’s the anesthesia and X-rays that costs so much. Our horses don’t need full anesthesia to get their teeth floated so that helps bring costs down a bit. The actual cleaning itself doesn’t costs too much
I just paid 1k. In DC
I paid $260 for blood test and cleaning only
I paid $700 for a healthy young chihuahua. It's insane. Never again.
I noticed my dog has big build up around his upper teeth’s and two side of small teeth are losen. And front top teeth roots shown up too. I am afraid to take him to dental because I don’t know what they gonna do with his teeths. And he is 11 years old and cost $1000
@@ajparenteau that’s mean to say! This is my first dog and I have him for 11 years now! He has been taken care very well!
There are 3 stages of teeth tartar(?) If its still in stage 1 the vet will just clean it under anesthesia. Stage 2, then some teeth MIGHT have to be removed but usually just cleaning. Stage 3, most of the teeth need to be removed and maybe even removing some part of the gum. I doubt yours is in stage 3, cause in stage 3, they wont eat nor drink. Its always better to have a vet check them. Make sure they are trustworthy by seeing their review or asking friends. An 11 years old dog will most likely have teeth problem no matter how well you take care of it. Just by the fact you manage to raise it until 11 years old means you are a good owner.
With how some of the roots is visible but he still ate(he does right?) I think its stage 2. Don't just listen to me though. I am just a vet student.
@@whoami1449 Thank you for helpful information. Yeah looks like he's in stage 2..His teeth were good 2 years ago, but all the sudden they are getting bad last year, I think I started feeding him wet dog food, may made them worsen, now I go back to feed him dry dog food.
Take him. My dog was messed up bc i really didn't know. As soon as i found out, i took him. They didn't say anything. They just cleaned his teeth.
Some vets don't even take the time to get our dog teeth real clean but yet they do charge A LOT of money rrrr
Excellent video, thank you for posting!
Yeah, but is it the same for cats?
Very clear, to the point, and instructive.
This sounds so expensive
It is
It is my dog’s doctor give me an estimated cost, around 1000cad in total
What's more expensive? Paying for one dental trip every so often to keep your pets healthy or pay millions of dollars over decades with a child? I paid $500 for mine here in Seattle but don't have children so its worth it to me totally
I can imagine the bill after all this promotion. I wonder how many dog owners could afford it.
It was 70 for my dog
Mallaidh Skeff can you please tell where you went, i can’t afford it for my dog:( that’s an accurate price for me
$1200 for my dog. Good thing I have savings and a partner that helped me with the bill. Love my little doggo.
here in florida a full cleaning and scaling is around 100 or less
When I had my dogs teeth cleaned the cost was £500+ ...
How much training does a vet get for cleaning animals teeth? Just wondering since I know dental hygienist have two years of training for people but wondering for vet training to clean animals teeth
Veterinary Dentists do a one year rotating internship and then a 3 year residency.
Well We in veterinary school study EVERYTHING for 4-7 years for our S1. Then 1 year of internship to get our license. Then we can take specializations such as dental or anesthesia. Which take 3-7 years(i think) Though we learn the stuff in this vid on our S1.
Vet nurses can do basic periodontal cleaning.
Wish you were near me.
Polo wraps are actually never used out on cross country, they hold water, slip, and could get caught on the jumps. Saratoga wraps are similar and are used on cross country, but do not hold water or slip.
