I wonder how many pilots are certified to fly the C-54, or how you would go about getting qualified. In the old days you did it thru a stint in the USAF. Looks like a plane that is fun to fly.

I was mechanic and flt. engineer on C-54's during the Korean War, 1950,51. Never a worry, loved the plane. Flew all over the Far East and in and out of Korea many times. Even North Korea once. TDY several times, Kimpo, Suwon, Taejon. Even remember the tail no. of my plane: 4272681. I'm 94 now. Wonder how many oil changes I have left. Don''t forget the Down Locks.

Why did they shut down #3 so quickly? Low oil pressure warning maybe?

Too bad that two of the engines quit and they are #3 and #1 as it taxied to a stop.

I'll never forget that beautiful noise...the incredibly nice smell when starting up... You really have to experience it...

Just bought the Revell 1:72 scale kit of this beautiful bird, and piece of aviation history, love the clag and tune of those engines ❤ although I will say that the union Jack is upside down on the left side of the fuselage, the broad white of St Andrew saltire cross is always above the red cross section of St Patrick's saltire cross in the canton as England and Scotland were unified before Ireland joined. Ah those Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasps sound absolutely glorious. Congratulations to the maintenance crew and everyone for keeping this old girl flying and looking so beautiful.

Whenever I see this video it makes me think of the Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 feet."

In 1960 and 61 i was in a squadron at Cherry Point, NC that had 3 C54s and 2 C47s. There was 2 squdrons of C119s next door.

I have liked C-97s since I was a kid. The shape of the fuselage always tripped me out because it is such a unique shape.

My respect goes to all those men that flew these sophisticated machines amidst noise.

I didn’t think there would be any C-97s still flying today. But this one looks like it rolled off the assembly line in 1950, it’s so new. Fantastic!

Engine number one sure looks as if it is in need of an overhaul....smoking really badly.

Miss the DC3 n DC6 we used to get now n then on the Night mail flights in the late 80s to mid 90s. night takeoff are amazing to watch with all the blue flames out the exhausts

7:12 Many years ago I used to listen to those radio sounds when the planes passed by, I loved them when the ones with propellers flew like these DC-4 and C-54, or Rockwell commander, and others, and today I never heard them again, and now that I see this video gave me a lot of nostalgia when hearing these beautiful radio sounds. nice video and thanks for uploading it.

My father flew KC-97’s before KC-135 came on line, then flew the 135’s. He flew three different tankers he said he passed a lot of gas…lol

This beautifully restored C-97 is absolutely beautiful.

The C-97G used to fly into Van Nuys Airport during the 1960s. I lived in the flight pattern of the airport at that time when I was a boy. The airplanes landed over our house but when the Santa Ana Winds blew, they would take off over our house. I loved the sound of those Pratt and Whitney twin Wasp radial engines.

When I was in the Navy I flew om a C 54 from Norfolk Virginia to Sigonella Sicily Naval Air Facility where I was stationed for two years once a week they would fly into the base and bring troops and supplies very reliable aircraft
