Flogging Molly with their Tobacco Island. With Lyrics!
A song I posted to try and make a point about how slavery is a human issue, and not a racial one. But I will not explain it, because I am among a bunch of racialists who believe it was only, ever a black issue. Because they are racist. I simply want us, as human beings, to move past the race argument. Look far back enough into your history. You will, undoubtedly find slaves. It is not a race issue. But Americans and Europeans, in particular, don''t comprehend the concept. We are all humans. We all deserve human-respect... and, we should also respect the animals we raise for food. Because I don't think cattle should be killed inhumanely. On that, particular topic, I am a liberal.

Its like the Irish version of Run to The hills.
Up The Irons!
crashstiches79 read your history. the Irish were indentured servants during the days of slavery. read your history!
M Angel Yeah the Irish had it so much better being put into indentured servitude for 20 years at the age of 20 and having a life expencity of 40 years.
Barbados yes this used to be the best song! tobacco band is awesome
Anyone ever question if it's "Abaco" island? A common point to which Northern Europeans fled? I mean, mostly brits fleeing the American revolution, but listening closely, the T sounds like it's at the end of haunt and not tobacco.
No, because they said Tobacco.
from what i can tell this is about slavery
Thank you!
Where our fellow Irish brother jacksepticeye
Kinda sad that he's the face of Ireland now. All that history, all that culture, just attributed to one UA-camr that only used to be funny. You know that Ireland is more than that, right?
Great song. "Tomorrow" isn't spelled that way though
edm gat wow i saw
My fathers line rode with William Penn out of Ireland. Although we were Scotts I loved the connection
We celts, celts are we. From wherever we are from. Feuds of old are just that.
The Scottish planted as well In the context of this song, the people of lowland Scotland were enemies too
Sadly missed portion of history English used irish slaves in barbados the relatives of whom still live there today.

This sounds ta me like piiiirate music, yaaaaarrrr
It's about Cromwell- the new king at the time- forcing the Irish to work on sugar and tobacco plantations in the Caribbean I believe. My history might be a bit mixed up...
Drew Budd Cromwell was not a "new king" he was "Lord Protector of the Commonwealth" for a few years and he wasn't around long enough to send any Irish to Barbados or anywhere. You are not mixed up but this song is. So this is a nice pirate shanty. Yarrrrrr me matey!
UBUNTU UBUNTU Ahhh Okay, thanks. I guess I was completely wrong hahaha.
UBUNTU UBUNTU www.globalresearch.ca/the-irish-slave-trade-the-forgotten-white-slaves/31076 In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers. Cromwell did further the Irish Slave trade.
Drew Budd No you were right drew ubuntu is just a history teacher at some brit uni/school.
I just realised that at 1:30 that may be a possible reference to Voodoo. Though I might be stretching it a bit... I mean the song is about Irish slaves transported into slavery in the Caribbean after English Civil War, so at this time they would have met a lot of West African slaves in the colonies. IIRC Voodoo started out as a mix of West African religions and Roman Catholicism in Haiti (at the time the French colony of Saint-Domingue). It never really occurred in any British colonies, but I do like the idea of Irish Catholicism mixing with West African Vodun religions.
This has been very fun to think about. Many thanks!
Interesting
+Eoghan Todd of course the religions mixed. that is a very deep subject of study. The mixing of Catholicism and Vodun and all the interpretations that came out of it.
Gypsy's helped Irish Catholicism marry up to vodoo
best song on the album
Agreed.
