I think I'm going to get this one. Nice review.
I have a (discontinued) 6" TRP Operator. When I got the gun, it had a 5 lb trigger. I had a trigger job done, now it's down to 3 lb. With the weapon light on, it's pretty heavy, but that helps mitigate the recoil from the 10mm rounds I shoot. I'm glad I bought it. Haven't had any feed issues with FMJ or JHP, including Sig and Speer Gold Dot.
Thank you for your honesty and earnestness about your journey of learning. It gives us “permission “ to question the narratives we’ve been telling ourselves. Powerful message, far beyond the realm of personal defense.
Is it just me or does the Cod 4 “M1911.45” look heavily inspired by this model?
🔥🔥
Hows the weight. Is it heavy?
Great updates on the gun. I just picked up a SA 9mm Operator today. Which magazines have you found work best? Thanks.
MetalCraft.
Hey Samuel, not sure if it would help but I've found having some form of leg strap helps keep the holster in place as you come up and out of the holster with my lvl 2-3 owb holsters. Would love to hear your thoughts on it!
Thanks for the tip!
@@redhawkfirearmtraining let me know how it works. Would also like to know some thoughts from you if you try or use one.
These three videos are so good. I get frustrated by all the mistakes when I try to go faster. Changing my vocabulary and recognizing speed of success and speed of growth puts the learning process into a new perspective for me.. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge.
You got this!
So beneficial as I practice the new things I learned last week. Something interesting though is that as I concentrate on the new, some of the previous things I have been working on seem easier and more automatic.
Great review. How much does the weapon light reduce recoil?
Very, very little.
So glad your back Sir!
Me too! More to come!!!!
This was a great video. Thank you. One of the things this video really highlighted for me is the potential benefit of bringing greater levity into my dry practice. To see you laugh during dry fire, as you got through the learning curve, is both refreshing and a good reminder not to be so serious and not to take myself so serious. Yes, what I am training for is absolutely serious business, but there is no reason why I can’t lighten up about my training process, and take the pressure off by taking the super serious edge, that comes from self imposed goals and standards. And that’s not even to suggest I shouldn’t entertain self imposed goals and standards, but the ability to laugh at oneself and to take things lightly is a good thing and I suspect will make the learning curve a more gentle one. Since you asked what we are working on: My goal for this year is to bridge the gap between my dry practice and my live practice.
What a fantastic goal that is 100% mental and emotional. I’m working through the same thing!
Welcome back. I was starting to miss my dailey doses of things to try.
More to come!
Welcome back. Thanks for letting us see your learning process. It's so helpful to see how you maintain your cheerful, positive attitude when something doesn't go just right. That in itself is such a valuable lesson.
You are so welcome!
Welcome back Samuel! Speed of success, love it. Just pulled out my Safariland ALS holsters for fitment test (some new optics changing things). Now I'll have to work on Speed of Success. I appreciate your openness in letting us see you learn.
I'm just trying to keep up with my favorite training-addicted trauma medical expert firearm instructor who lives in Chicago.
Great review thanks. Would have liked to see the groupings you were shooting.
Thanks for the update! 🙂
I knew it had to be something cool! Patiently waiting for more from you. All the best.
Been wondering sir Thank you for the info I’ll be working on things from previous videos until you have time again. Family is always always first
Yup, still working on getting this crucial first step. For variety, I carry my cleared gun as I do household chores, giving me lots of opportunities to practice. Besides, it makes housework ever so much more interesting. I never pull the trigger though unless I am in my designated dry fire area. Thanks for these great videos.
Solid content as always!
Thank you brother.
How is feeding with hollow point ammunition? Do you have a preferred brand that runs well with this gun?
It runs Federal HST 147, Sig V Crown 147, and Speer Gold Dot with zero issues. Federal Premium HST 147 is my preferred carry ammunition.
Thanks for the reply its my main concern with 9mm 1911's.
Crazy good information - and analogies (truck and trailer). Another great lesson from Samuel!
Thank you! Let me know how it helps as you use it!
Looking great young man! Thanks for the great videos! Does this mean that you don’t advise having the thumb ride against the slide?
I absolutely do, just not for 1911's. I actually propose that for your gun, you should be putting a fair bit of pressure on the slide with your thumb in addition to what I'm showing here.
Love the idea here excited to give it a try.
Let me know how it goes!!!!
Hmm, now I gotta try this out tonight as I am impatient and cant wait till I actually have "time"... standby...Ok, so I did about 2min of this and changed angles a couple of times to see what I was/was not doing. You are correct that when we are not thinking about where our support hand placement is, it is usually a bit farther out from my body, and it took me longer to get onsite. When I payed more attention to building my grip closer to my body and pressed straight out with a good grip I was almost always on sight and target.
YES!!!!
I’m working on this. This is good info.
Glad it was helpful!
Wohoo, 400! Congratulations!! Fantastically insightful as always :) My word, that's a gorgeous draw.
Thank you brother. I’m working on it!
How's the recoil these compared to a 2011/1911 DS?
This one does NOT recoil. I can’t compare it to others.
This is interesting. I have practiced in front of a mirror sometimes, but the video is even more revealing. In addition to leaning to the right, there's embarrassingly weird facial contortions taking place as I get the gun out.I am making some progress on getting a higher grip though, and that feels pretty good. Thank you for your dedication in making these 400 videos.
You’re welcome. Let’s get better together!
400! Way to go, Sam! I'll see what the bridge looks like. Thanks for another good journal entry.
And what did you find out about the bridge?
@@redhawkfirearmtraining tension across the bridge but it didn’t move up much.
Congratulations on day 400!!!🎉 What a fantastic charitable contribution to the betterment of humanity (and specifically to the shooting community) these videos are!
Thank you so much, my friend. Let’s keep getting better together!
Another great video! Thank you as always, for the helpful exercises! I’m going to have to break out the Mantis to see if it can help me measure those draw to freeze times…
GREAT idea!!!!!
This is a good video. I build my grip later than you for sure. My support hand gets on the gun while I’m pushing towards the target. I typically build a solid grip though.
My question is… why does it build so late? What value do you get from that?
@@redhawkfirearmtraining I think it’s just how I’ve always done it. I didn’t notice until I recorded myself and watched it in slow motion.
I have the predecessor, the Range Officer Elite in 9 mm. After a couple hundred break in rounds and some recoil spring weight experimentation it runs flawlessly and is a very accurate pistol.
I’m about 15,000 rounds into this one, and it just keeps getting BETTER. I’m regretting all the years I tried to perform well with Sigs and HK’s, and any other polymer framed striker guns.
This is good. By freezing the process at that point, it shows me what I need to know about my grip.I have found myself adjusting in the air, not finishing one part correctly before moving on. I'm still having trouble getting high enough. on the back though. I'm experimenting with how to get my hand on the gun initially. Thank you for doing these videos.
You'll find that every single mistake you make while building your grip while the gun is still in the holster not only continues, but amplifies itself as you build your grip and present to target. Start there.
Then at the first mistake should I stop, not proceed to the next step until it's right? I have tactile markers for my thumb and middle finger that result in a higher grip than I had before. The left side will fit snugly against my thumb, but there is still a gap on the right. So I am experimenting with that.
Great stuff!
Thanks @axiomsrs, what in particular did you find helpful?
I've been doing this exercise and have discovered some things, also I feel like it's getting smoother, especially parts one and four. I hope your hand feels better.
Great job! Keep going!!!!
I'm chasing that perfect draw, thinking that should translate into a bit of speed at some point. The whole process seems more smooth as I practice, I know I'm making progress but I feel like I'm in molasses mode. I'm getting a callous from the trigger guard, my other reward for frequent dry fire!!
That “molasses” feeling is going to pay off huge. I’ll tell you all about it at the next dojo.
Excellent, I look forward to it!
Great video, timely lessons… Thank you.
You’re welcome. I’ve chased the ghost of the timer for too long, leading me to think I was always worse at this than I actually am because of the comparison factor to others also chasing the ghost. I know you know exactly what I mean. 😊
I agree consistant draws yield overall better results
100%.
Good video. I like the concept of picking the sights up quicker.
You’re welcome! Did it work for you when you tried it?
@@redhawkfirearmtraining it did.
I’m actually surprised how poorly the finish is holding up on that. I have an Ion Bond Colt Combat Unit Rail gun that I got back in 2016 and I EDC it without any damage to the finish. I use a kydex holster as well. I’ve never carried my cerakote M45A1 out of fear of damaging it. After seeing your operator I’m thinking I made the right call. That finish doesn’t seem to hold up to holsters at all.
I’m not all concerned about it. All my guns do this. HK, Sig, and this 1911.
I like the Operator. I actually prefer it over the TRP.
I do, too!
I just watched this video again. Good info here. I EDC a full size Colt Combat Unit Rail bc I shoot it better than anything else. Also, my state has a 10 round magazine limit so there are no capacity advantages to the polymer guns. Just worse ergonomics and bad triggers lol.
Happy New Year
Same to you!
I appreciate being able to observe each step, follow along as you do it, see from different angles, and then put everything together. This is super helpful as this is one of the things I have been working on. Also I have been working on building a better grip with dry fire sessions. Today was my first live fire in two weeks and accuracy was improved. Lots to work on still, in so many ways, but this was exciting for me!
Awesome, thank you!
Go pro pov footage of me shooting a match while trying to run my gun fast showed me doing the same thing with my shooting hand thumb. Something that is either not present or almost imperceptible in slow fire or slow dry fire. 🧐
Crazy, isn’t it?!?
Your videos are very helpful. I also appreciate that you EDC a full sized railed 1911. I do as well. Easy to hide and super accurate.
Thanks for checking these out, and I’m happy to help in any way I can! What 1911 do you use?
@@redhawkfirearmtraining currently EDC a Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun in 45acp. I absolutely love it.
