This is a super "alternative" video. I have been subscribed for a long time now. We use our van for picnics and nights away. It is great for that at this time of year. Look on OS maps for rights of way and always talk with farmers. You might be the only person that they speak with that day.

I really enjoyed this video! Thank you. It’s good to see the reality of daily life! I have been known to sit on the drive for half an hour in the camper 😂. It’s relaxing! I too have used ours for charity shop runs and recycling centre trips!

We are not traveling much because of my husbands health. I had to charge the batter to get it started last month so I'm now using the van for shopping and eating out with friends when the restaurant is a distance from home. We bought a Winnebago Roam because it was handicap accessible but as you know, life throws you curves. I enjoy your short and sweet videos because I don't have the time for longer ones.

Really enjoyed your video and you are right life does sometimes get in the way of going away, like you our van does sit on the drive a lot this time of year although I do sometimes just take a magazine and sit in it. I liked your idea of looking at park for the night and just go and see local park ups and I could take my magazine and sit somewhere different for a change 👋👋👋

I use the Ordinance Survey map App OS Maps to make sure I’m walking on designated right of way. I had a couple of incidents in Wales with aggressive farmers when using the old paper maps years ago and I’m sure I was in the right but they tried to intimidate myself and my partner at the time. Quite scary and this was despite being polite.

Thumbs up for your intro shots. Super! Only I think you where done at the last arrival shot before the drone shot. And yes it's a struggle sometimes to get out and do it! But I have never regretted it after. So keep pushing yourself. I like planning and going for a few days. Produce a video a day and be home the rest of the month.

Stick to your quality and don't go down the quantity click bait route like some. I take a flask of hot water with tea etc plus pot noodle and cuppa soups. Ready for anything. I even enjoy the diy shopping runs in ours. They have a totally different feel to getting from a to b as quickly as possible in a car. I never feel stressed in the van because she gets there in her time not mine. I admit to enjoying tidying the cupboards and drawers though.

Love your video's followed u ever since my first t6 camper a few yesrs ago. Sadly sold it 3 yr ago and just put a deposit on a new panel van to do a newer conversion so looking fwd to camper van part 2. 😀 watching ur video's makes me excited for vw adventures again 🎉

Good tips! I have a blanket on my van bed. It’s perfect for 30-50 degrees. Useless under 20 degrees. I carry my + 15 degrees backpacking sleeping bad and a Silk Sac and that’s all I need. Just tested again in 11 degrees in Bryce Canyon Utah and I was snug as a bug!

Like John's Micro camper, interesting that you chose a WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle) as your van. Its good to have time out Ruth. A Ford Transit with a pop top or high roof is ideal for the short trips out that you do. It will also give you room to walk around in the van and not be hunched over all the time (age will be a big factor in years to come when you are less supple lol) A large camper van would just be money burning a hole in your purse/wallet unless you plan to live in it. Keep the video's coming, love to all the family ❤

I live in Devon and so smaller van for narrow roads is easier but love the idea of more cosy space to lounge for me and the pup so maybe a slightly bigger van one day - there are lots of 5.4 metre vans apparently which give enough room but not being too big. I have pop top too and friend has her van currently at the garage having hard high top put on - she lives just over the border in Cornwall - waiting to see what it’s like 😊

Hi Ruth, I’ve got a medium wheelbase Fiat Ducato. L2H2. It’s wide enough to have a bed width ways which gives you more room in the van. Can (just about) fit in a normal parking space. I converted it on my own over the summer. Basic build- I power it with a power station, which has a portable solar panel. I also fitted an EHU (a really simple plug and play kit). It feels a bit like driving a lorry to me, as I’m used to a very small car- but it’s great for camping. I’m still getting used to driving it though. I live in N Wales and find it scary sometimes on the narrow roads 🫣😂A rear camera heIps a bit…. I did a fixed single bed and a chair bed, as I’m a single parent. I love your van- when my youngest goes off to uni in 2-3 years I’ll probably sell this van and get one similar to yours, just because if I’m on my own camping, I don’t need anything too big. Agree that hard top is better (and warmer) than a pop top, if you decide to keep your VW. Thanks for sharing your walk xx

IBigger adventures need a bigger van 👍 If you & Dave are looking at building your own van it worth a look at Basevans based near Ashbourne, Derbyshire. They have a range of ex fleet and ex Ambulance vans and can help you find the right one for you and so some of the work depending on budget. I am not affiliated to them, but have seen the company featured by the number of you tubers. I have an older transit custom conversion, no poptop. When it grows up it wouldl like to be a sprinter 4x4 off roader! 🤣🤣😉 x

Just changing from a t4 to t6 lwb high roof and fitting it out ourselves to include separate bathroom and hot water. We think this should be just as easy to park mostly but the build itself is challenging due to quart in pint pot syndrome and very time consuming. It's got to work as its costing quite a lot. Next problem is selling t4 to a good home as we do love her but decided to sell the caravan so we will only have the one camping option.

We just change our van from a vw t5.1 to a 5.4 metre Westfalia Amundsen and it’s great you can still park it in a parking space but the van has everything fixed bed shower toilet check them out on the internet Ruth

Hi ive got a vw t6 swb love it but need more space for my health. So im upgrading to a 5.41m which can just get in a parking space. No height barrier carparks .

We have a transit connect micro camper and it's great for parking and fuel economy but it is tiny. I would love to get a fiat ducato or the citroen Peugeot equivalent. I would go for medium wheelbase and high roof. Wide enough to sleep width ways but would still fit in normal parking spots. Like the look of Holmefirth.

ooo you from Stockport? spotted the A6. were currently starting our Campervan Conversion adventures

I have a jumbo Transit, insulated and ply lined with a 7kW Chinese diesel heater. I’m currently in the Balkans and for a week night time temperatures are minus 3 to 4C. The heater works great but consumes 3 litres every 10 hours so about 3 GBP per night. During the day I use a 2kW convector heater (currently parked on my drive while renovating my house and sleeping in the van). I have black velvet curtains isolating the cab, but it makes no noticeable difference to temperature. I sleep in fleece pyjamas with socks because otherwise I’m cold. I had one night at minus 18C in a couple of years ago and was warm, but the diesel heater was almost flat out and consumed 7 litres in 10 hours so they are not cheap to run. This year is colder than normal, so I’m absolutely not looking forward to living in my van for the next 5 months until it warms up in the spring. It will cost me at least 500 GBP in diesel assuming the heater doesn’t die on me which is the main reason I use the convector heater as much as possible.
