You could also use a dental floss threader - they come in packs of 25/50 for like $2.50. Stiff but flexible clear blue plastic, meant for flossing bridgework, etc. I use them almost entirely for threading all my beads, except for weaving or embroidery.

If this doesn't work try stiffening the end of the thread with nail varnish or something similar. I stiffen the ends of all my threads to create a "needle" 🧵

This thread isn't actually too fat for the bead hole though, its just frayed and as its a woven cord, hard to stop it splaying out. Rolling the end in some glue tightly would also have done (as long as no excess glue left and the thread end left sharp like a needle tip).

Thread translated into Swedish as "sladd" as in vacuum cleaner cord. Hardly put pearls on cords do you.
