I finally managed to track down an original Arbiter Double Cut lawsuit copy to complete the early Billy Bragg setup. These Arbiters were made by Ibanez and white-labelled into the UK. Set neck and standard G*bson setup. The tuners need a little upgrade but otherwise it's solid and plays great. I didn't rehearse this before recording, I think I got one word wrong, and a bum minor chord instead o...

It's being fed into a Blackface Bassman 2x12 This is the 20w 6L6 version Excuse the ham-fisted playing, it's early here and my fingers are still a little burnt/sore from the build hahaha! Apparently it's part Fender Hammertone and part Fender Pelt, according to those who have looked at the circuit.

      This is an op-amp vs silicone, which the Hammertone fuzz is based on.

      I gotta agree with you. It really sounds a bit bad ... maybe we're too used to EHX Big Muff, for example ... that's one heck of a fuzz box!

    • @TheMuseumOfMistakes
      @TheMuseumOfMistakes 2 місяці тому

      @@rockdanger it's just another flavour of fuzz. Ever played the Superfuzz? Pete Townsend used them a lot and those have a similar vibe to this at times. It's supposed to sound face-ripping and nasty. Smooth fuzz has its place for sure, but so do the raspy ones. To each their own.

      By far the best guitar review video I’ve ever seen. No intricate finger style or shredding. Just the plain old cowboy chords that most of us play more often than not. There is no better way to judge the sound of an instrument than someone playing it the way you do. Be well.

      @@michaelcaplan9852 Thank you so much! I often struggle to find reviews of just *normal* people playing normal guitar, especially something slightly high-end, so it made sense to do one that I'd be happy to find. I guess I need to record the sound with a better mic maybe and not chat too much but, hey, that's me I guess. Stay safe, and thanks again for the kind words

    Wow - I've thought about doing precisely this: putting a higher-power speaker in my champ and using a Quilter to get more headroom through the champ cab when wanted. Do you prefer the tone of the champ or the Quilter? Are they pretty similar/different?

    • @TheMuseumOfMistakes
      @TheMuseumOfMistakes 4 місяці тому

      I just had the Quilter turned RIGHT down. My VibroChamp sounds best with a low power speaker so I didn't want to change it just for a test. The Champ has a very different sound which is one I love (it's my main house amp, love it dearly) and the Quilter is more of a functional tool. It doesn't sound the best, but 'it will do'

    Dude, nothing wrong with that bridge pup'. Era correct is fine for value, but that is the fattest sounding bridge P90 I've heard. No hum? And aged binding looks like gold. Playing is alright - we can't all be Yngwie. It's a keeper!! Ü ♫

    • @TheMuseumOfMistakes
      @TheMuseumOfMistakes 9 місяців тому

      Yeah, even when I find a '56 pickup to replace it I'll probably just pop it in the case as the '68 one, as you say, sounds great. There is hum if you point it the right direction towards the amp but single coils often have a sweet spot in that regard. My house is also pretty well grounded with no dimmers or neons anywhere. Thanks for the positive words re: playing. I'm pretty limited outside of my own stuff and style but I tried to show a bit of a range as I know people online like to hear all sorts. I always make sure to play big open dirty chords though as people seem to skip that a lot and go straight to showing off their lead licks.
