My plastic surgery appointment // picking implants for my mastectomy reconstruction
I’m BRCA 2 positive, 40 and I am in the hospital watching this after just doing my prophylactic double mastectomy! I did the same exact thing, direct to implant. I may end up doing fat grafting in a few months as that is still an option, but we shall see. Surgery went so well, I am in no pain and now no more anxiety! ❤
I have triple negative breast cancer. Doing double mastectomy in January. I will have to do chemo and radiation. 😢
I am going to do a double mastectomy in January, chemo, then radiation. No family history. Reconstructive will be last. I have a long way to go.
I’m having surgery January 14th nervous
Hello! Thanks for information, braca1 here too 👋. Do you screen for pancreatic cancer or melanoma? We also have higher risk for those unfortunately.
@@milag29 I screen for melanoma once a year (sometimes 6 months). Pancreatic I’ll begin around 40!
I'm having my mastectomy in a week and they're putting in tissue expanders. Thanks for you video!!!
It’s like the stressors just don’t stop
Also for colonoscopy it’s covered if you have symptoms
#previvor almost got me 🥹
Miałam biopsję gruboiglowa piersi. Wykryto adenoze stwardniejaca piersi. Jest to zmiana lagodna. Ale muszę jeździć na kontrolę co pół roku. Pozdrawiam.
Im so glad yioi csn soare nipplles im getting a double mastectomy hopefully a candidate for direct to implant!
You’re so sweet and real, thanks for sharing. I’m 3 weeks post mastectomy with immediate reconstruction and you have helped me feel relaxed and be more patient with myself 🙌🏻🩷 🌸
Thank you for your story .I am starting a journey just now 😘😘😘
Thank you so much for this!
Thank you for sharing your journey and all the information. I just found your channel and subscribed. I am brca1 but got ambushed by cancer before I knew anything. There is almost no cancer in my very huge family and I had zero symptoms but got ovarian cancer. Thank God despite the tumor being huge (there's a lot of space in our bellies before it becomes noticeable which is why it is so dangerous), it was still at stage 2. So I had my entire reproductive system taken out and finished 6 rounds of chemo not too long ago. My doctor told me, mastectomy is not necessary at this point and I went like ... pheew I had this terrible cancer, I'm not getting the breast cancer also. I just did an MRI and there's a mass in each breast, they're very small and they can't tell what it is, it doesn't necessarily have to be cancer. So I'll be getting an ultrasound within the next two weeks, but I think I'll be getting a mastectomy regardless what the results are going to be. The MRI and, to be honest, your videos have given me the necessary push to go down that route. This whole story has been very traumatic because again, I felt like I was ambushed and robbed by cancer and never in a million years would have expected something like that. I'm a single mom, so I can't have children anymore and I hate being forced into early menopause. But I guess there's no choice in a situation like that and I'll do anything to be here with my boy. I never liked my breasts anyway. I'm terrified to go under the knife again. Was the surgery painful? I'm 37 by the way, started having my first symptom, which was intense abdominal pain that sent me straight to ER, roughly 4 months before my 37th b-day. Keep putting out these great videos, they're helping a lot with navigating, making good decisions, information etc. Thanks for doing this. This conversation is so helpful with this challenging situation 💗
Are the implants safe? Can they tear/break, leach into the body, anything like that? Is the material toxic/unhealthy?
Love your video❤
Love your positive ❤
I have my surgery in 2 weeks. The anxiety is awful. They say it will be same day surgery and I’ll go home in the afternoon
I’m brca2 pos with my sister having stage 3 lymphatic breast cancer at 25 and my other sister finding cancer during her prophylactic mastectomy at 23. So my doctors decided to start my surgery process a week after turning 20. Just had a premastectomy mastopexy and my mastectomy is in 4 months! Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips they help a ton💗
That's awesome you got to hear music. I just had ear plugs. Didn't get a ball to squeeze either.
So they can do a nipple sparing mastectomy removing the breast tissues using the breast creases and then place the implants in? Did you use ACM at all? Thanks for sharing. Mine is coming so many questions 😬
Are your new boobs warm to touch? Some surgeons say they will be cold 😢
The DIEP FLAP recovery was brutal. But after one year of recovery, I am now onto the next phase - fine tuning of nipple recon, reshaping that recon breast and also doing a skin sparing mastectomy of the other tiny A cup natural breast with immedicate recon with an implant. Feeling nervous but also excited that finally I might be able to wear a bra properly without having uneven breasts. And not having to do mammograms anymore is also something I look forward to. Could I ask if you started off with large breasts being able to direct to implant smoothly? I have tiny boobs A cup and not sure how I am going to be able to do direct to implant with my right breast after mastectomy. My diep flap left breast is huge 😂 like a C.
I’m getting my double mastectomy + reconstruction later this year after finding out I’m BRCA2+. Thank you so much for sharing this!
how did it go? 🫂
I am getting ready for a double mastectomy and i am wondering can i pick my cup size if i go right to implant. My whole family has had breast and other cancers. including me. i also have a son with downsyndrome and i am trying to find a silver lining i have always been small and think it would do great things for my selfesteem if i could go bigger.
I was able to go bigger! A few cup sizes. Definitely talk to your doctor about that option
I got my preventative mastectomies around the same time as you, and remember watching your videos way back when. It was comforting to see someone my age going through the same thing! I’ve also been told that I don’t need any additional screening, but I didn’t know I could request it anyway. Thanks!
I'm having a bilateral mastectomy in a few months, still in the planning faze. Your videos have helped so much! If you are still living in Austin I would love to take you out for a coffee!
Aw I’m so glad they helped! I am in Austin 🫶 Are you on IG? We should connect there via DM!
My surgery is in June!! I’m palb2 positive and I’m so ready to get this stress and weight (literally) out of my life!!!
Rooting for you ❤️💪💪 it’s such a relief to be on the other side!
@@FindingInnerPearce thank you so much!! And thank you so much for sharing your journey!! We’re similar in age and it’s been hard to find stories in our age range!! And the updates have been amazing!
I’m getting my brca1 prophylactic mastectomy (direct to implant) next month and purchased a few of your recommendations through the links. I appreciate you sharing everything you’ve shared through your videos! It’s really helped me feel more prepared and less alone. The ovarian screening protocol push back you’ve received is wild because my genetic team has me on 6month protocol for ca125, pelvic ultrasound and transvag ultrasound with no exception. Great advice about finding the docs who will work with and for you!!!! Thank you.
I’m so glad it helped!!! And yes so crazy about the pushback, I was shocked! But so glad I had learned to advocate for myself from others in the community. Honestly I wouldn’t have even known to get ovarian screening if I hadn’t asked fellow brca ladies (my doctors didn’t mention it to me)
Also wishing you a speedy recovery ❤ if you have any questions during the healing process please feel welcome to reach out!
Thank you and thank you and thank you! Going through this process I’m learning so much and its people like you who are brave enough to document their journey that make it easier for us to be aware and informed. I appreciate you. Have a great night.
Thanks so much for sharing. I’m preparing for a double mastectomy this February and found your tips to be helpful as well as your shared experience 1 yr post surgery 💞
Wishing you a smooth recovery ❤️❤️
Why are hanging out all over the place talking to ppl who have had 1 or both breasts removed. . It's really not right.
Huh?
Hero line! Absolutely no issues with seeing them ✊
Stay strong💪
Nooo I'm gonna cry. I took anxiety medication around the age of 14 because I was going through abuse. I'm 20 soon and living away from that person. But things have been so bad recently that I'm considering it. 🥺 I swear UA-cam algorithm is too specific!!!!
Wow I can’t believe that!! You’re not alone ❤️❤️ Anxiety is so hard
I’m proud of you x
There will be some changes in breast before the mutation happens (cystic lesions ). it can be found through scanning of breasts
Actually it’s often not caught! Which is why the mastectomy is so worth it. Especially with the risk of triple negative
Hi! I commented on one of your videos earlier this year. I had my double mastectomy in July and have been dealing with expanders for the past 3 months. I go in for my exchange surgery on Tuesday!
Hope your exchange goes well ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the tips
I’m brca 1 positive, I’m 36 and about to start the process of surgery. Thanks for making this video, it’s so reassuring to see people on the other side ❤
Hi! So I have this surgery in January about a month ago I got a breast lift surgery because that’s what the surgeon recommended so I’d be able to keep my nipples. Did you get a breast lift before as well?
My breasts were smaller and “tubular” in shape so I didn’t need one! But I’ve heard of this from friends who are happy with their results.
Thank you so much for your videos, I am finding them really helpful.
First month post mastectomy and direct reconstruction. Good to know It takes time to settle but It happens.
Yes!! It does happen ❤️
Hi I am a women from the Uk I’ve had a mastectomy on my right side no reconstruction could you tell me if you know anywhere they sell pretty mastectomy bras from yes I can get black ones and cream but that’s it any help would be great
Ana ono intimates sells lovely ones ❤️
@@FindingInnerPearce thankyou so much I’ve been in contact with them
Hey I don't know if you are ever gonna read this, but I was diagnosed with Cowden Syndrome, had also positive Pten-testing at age 16, which means that I have a 85% lifetime risk of breast cancer. I already developed mastopathy and had my second (benign) breast nodule diagnosed about 2 weeks ago. I am all done and so ready for surgery. I am 21 years old now and told my gyn that I can't do this any longer. She said that she understands and now we gonna have a conversation about surgery on August 3rd. I am so scared and nervous but this is who I truly am....
Sending you SO much love ❤️ I promise you’ll feel so much better once you’re on the other side of surgery! So proud of you for standing up for yourself and doing what’s best for you
Did you have the implants over or under your pectoral muscles? What cup size were you originally? I am going to decide about this in few months time.
Under the muscle! I was a 32C and am now 34 D or DD
@@FindingInnerPearce ah ok.. i dont have much breast tissue but most likely going with prepec... isn't animation a problem with under the muscles? I mean when doing workout and if the chest muscles contract, it does not show?
@@wem-c9f it does! And it’s not super comfortable either. I personally don’t mind it too much since I’m not super athletic
@@FindingInnerPearce That’s good to hear. Thank you 😊
@@FindingInnerPearce Hi, I’m having my surgery in November. (Nipple-preserving, no tissue expanders, under pec) Contemplating going a little smaller so as to prevent stretching / pain. The (plastic) surgeon’s assistant said we can discuss this @ pre-op & there will be a variety of sizes to choose from & the nurses will translate the cc’s into cup sizes so it’s easier to relate. I used to be 36C @ barely 5’ tall they were too big for my body. Had Reduction surgery in 2020 to a 36B & I only got one year w/ no “false positive” w/ breast mri biopsy. Strong family history. Would love your thoughts on the sizing topic; if going smaller might benefit in some way since I’m such a small frame.
I had breast cancer few years ago had a single mastectomy and just finished with a DIEP Flap done. Next stage will be implant into the healthy breast and liposuction to even out both breasts. Body is still recovering ❤️🩹 hopefully very 🔜.
Just found out I'm brca2 positive. With all my other chronic health issues it just makes sense to have double mastectomy done. Very scared. This helped. I liked when your partner fed you. My partner feeds me when I'm hospitalized haha it's sweet. Thanks for showing your journey. It's making this easier
Hi, I am having a double Mast w/reconstruction the same day. (Implants) I am 78, not really worried about the surgery, but apprehensive regarding recovery. You really think it will take me all summer to feel "fairly" normal again? May 10th is my surgery. Neither the breast surgeon or the plastic surgeon has told me much about this, only that it "is a good decision" to have this surgery.
Hi Beverly! It personally took me 4-6 weeks to get my stamina back, then about 3-6 months (at least) for my breasts to start shaping up. I know it can vary person by person, but I would expect (if you’re like me) by mid-July you’ll be feeling better! Definitely ask your doctor as it is really case by case.
Thank you. I'm.2 weeks post dmx with implants due to extensive DCIS and finding recovery hard I'm impatient but this is reassuring. All the best luv :) <3
Having tissue expanders are no joke. As for me it’s the most uncomfortable thing .
