Steam Deck XR Gaming update - the big one!
The XR Gaming plugin provides 3DoF and other XR features for supported VITURE, RayNeo, TCL, Rokid, and XREAL Air devices on Steam Deck.
Version 1.0 is out now, and it's the one everyone has been asking for! With this update, the virtual display and follow effects apply to all Game Mode elements and all games and apps launched from Game Mode. Other updates include improvements to Smooth Folllow like being able to zoom in and set a follow threshold, SBS support in Follow mode, and a curved display option.
This update requires Steam OS 3.6.15 (currently only in the Beta Steam OS update channel) and Decky Loader v3.0. If you want to wait for this update to be available on the Stable channel, follow me through any of my socials below.

In this video I'm demoing the progress I've made on a Linux virtual workstation solution for XR glasses (Breezy Desktop). You'll see a working XR virtual display single-screen only for this demo that can handle any task your PC can typically handle. When this launches, it will support at least one primary physical display and one virtual display at the glasses' native resolution (typically 1920...

This video shows off an extension to the game driver that allows it to render games with a body-anchor display. That is, a display that appears anchored in one place, so you can move your head to see other parts of the display. Anyone that has gamed with these glasses understands the inconvenience of only being able to see the corners of the screen by moving your eyes, and the slight blurring e...
Hey hey! Thanks for the Great Tool!! My english is not so good. I have Problems with mouse based Games. The Maus hitbox is Not on the Same Point as the Mouse. Can u give me some Tips? (: I use a Xreal Air 2 .
Point and click games are a no-go for now. The mouse doesn't follow the display properly. Sorry!
@@WayneHeaney thx for the Info! Thx for Ur work! Is the fix of the Mouseproblem on Ur to do List?
@@Dominik_Gabel It's something I want to fix, but the fix may be more involved than the work I've already had to do in gamescope. I don't see it being addressed soon.
Hey sorry about this, I installed the XR plugin when I got my RayNeo glasses a few weeks ago and they didn’t work with your app. I now see you have an update and they work, however my trial is almost done, is there a fix for this?
Which glasses specifically? Did you check the model against the supported devices list? Don't worry about the trial, I can help you star over if needed, just DM on Reddit or Discord, or email me.
Just installed the plug-in to use with my Air 2 glasses. I have mostly steered clear of fps games on my deck because I can't stand to play them without keyboard and mouse. But this might be interesting. Definitely look forward to trying it as soon as Overwatch 2 finishes installing. Can't hurt to try a quick play match or try. Pretty sure it'll take some getting used to
Let me know how it goes.
its a shame i got my XR Pro and used it with this plug in and it didnt work it didnt detect my XR Pro.
I assume you mean the VITURE Pro glasses? Did the plugin specifically say no device was connected? Are you plugging directly into the deck or through an adapter or dock of some kind? If adapter/dock, try going directly to the deck.
@@WayneHeaney Though the Mobile Dock with the Steamdeck Attachment.
@@Spectral_Fox Unfortunately, the mobile dock doesn't allow for 3DoF features like what the plugin provides. You need to either have a charge-n-play style adapter that specifically supports Steam Deck or plug directly into the deck.
I have problem installing the Last reléase of XR Gaming in Decky,at the en of procederé. Are there any problem with GitHub?
How is this for productivity purposes? I use quest 3 for daily dev work and the quality for reading text is not optimal
The text will be sharper because the pixels are smaller and more tightly packed, but the resolution of the screen itself is still just 1080p -- worse than the Quest 3 but not meaningfully so. So it would probably come down to personal preference which is "better," but spec-wise it's basically a wash. IMO I wouldn't recommend replacing a real desk setup with the current gen of these glasses, though it would be an upgrade over just using a laptop screen while traveling or in a pinch. If you can, wait for the next gen of these glasses to improve on FOV and resolution, whenever that may be.
You mentioned moonlight, do any of the features work in moonlight or not at all? Do you think the mod would work using Bazzite OS?
The XR Gaming plugin has been shown to work with Bazzite as long as you're on the bleeding edge, beta. Regarding moonlight the features are only applied locally, on top of the video feed. No headset data or effects are applied to the game on the host PC.
Just bought rayneo air 2s. Cant wait
Air 2 or 2S? The 2S unfortunately doesn't work with my software yet
I have a NUC7i5BNH and am using the XREAL Air as the sole display option. Widescreen does not work for me. As soon as I toggle it the screen goes black. I'm running the latest version of Zorin
I have a troubleshooting channel on my discord if you want to try to debug through it. Discord is linked in the video description.
XR GAMING shows ''no device detected'' when using Viture Pro, games run fine, but ''desk-top'' mode is a no-go. This is why I downloaded Decky/XR Gaming.
This isn’t working with my RayNeo Air 2s, I’m on 3.6.15 is there something else to do
The 2S isn't on my list of supported devices, so I don't think the SDK I got from RayNeo will work that yet. github.com/wheaney/XRLinuxDriver#supported-devices
Very impressed and interested. I am considering the Viture Pro in combination with your software. Are you plugged into a USB C DP port or are you using an adapter for HDMI? Sorry if I missed this hardware information somewhere. I would be grateful for some guidance.
I've done both, I just upgraded my laptop but prior to that I was using an HDMI adapter. If you have to go with an adapter just be sure it's one that's recommended in the VITURE forums or similar, otherwise it may not work to power the glasses or receive USB data from the glasses.
@@WayneHeaney Thanks a lot for getting back. Much appreciated!
Please donate for his great work and more features
Perfekt :) love that feature
Great work Is there anyway to install this without decky plug inn as for some reason I can't change my sudo password I've tried everything so was hoping to install this without decky loader thanks for any help
Decky just installs Breezy Vulkan under the hood, but unfortunately that requires sudo during setup as well.
I needed to reset my password recently and used this tutorial. It worked perfectly. You just need a cabled keyboard. ua-cam.com/video/F96ntnf8qiQ/v-deo.html
Time for a backup and reinstall? I'm not versed in Arch so I don't know if there's a way to reset the sudo password but I know there's a way to do it on Debian based
@@vexvesper Sorry I'm not really sure what you're asking. If you're using decky you don't have to worry about sudo or anything, (unless you don't even have decky yet), as it takes care of the plugin installation for you.
Tried out the new features in Redout during my lunchbreak and suffice to say this is the experience I was looking forward to all along. Cheers!
You're welcome!
what an awesome update! but sorry if I've missed that... is it possible to play games in stereo (sbs shader like superDepth 3D) on virtual display? or at least to watch side by side stereo movies? I understand that it's quite a complex feature, but maybe?
Yes, my plugin supports SBS mode, but it doesn't apply effects like SuperDepth3D. So it's up to you to get 3D content that works, but once you do, my plugin can render it just fine.
This is fantastic! I hope we get Plasma next lol. Thanks for everything!
KDE is indeed one of my priorities, though it remains to be seen whether it's possible.
@@WayneHeaney best of luck!
Valve should hire you. I hope their next VR will have a standalone mode like this. 😊
Nicely done 😎
Amazing! Thank you so much for this.
You're welcome ❤
Outstanding work! Thanks for the smooth follow updates.
This is mega - can't believe the progress you're making!
It's been a long time coming! I'm really excited to have this out in the wild.
great work! commented over a lil while back to you about getting vitures and using your plugin on all of game mode, so happy to hear its already this far along! viture just arrived so great timing!
It's actually ready now. I'm working on a video that I'll post tomorrow to announce it. You can use it if you're on the latest Steam OS Beta channel update (3.6.15 or later) and v1.0.1 of the plugin that just went live a few hours ago.
@@WayneHeaney yeah just watched the vid, gonna wait a bit till it works on stable branch, the smooth follow threshold sounds perfect for how I wanna use it so cant wait, great job again man!
This is a gamechanger in productivity on linux with AR glasses. I love it on my mini PC
Nice work bro!
how do we get this on windows?
Nebula, Spacewalker, GingerXR are 3 possible solutions. Breezy won't ever be there.
@@WayneHeaney what about macOS?
@@tarcisando MacOS also has Nebula, SpaceWalker, and probably other third-party solutions. My focus is solely on Linux.
@@WayneHeaney thank you!
That's. Just. AWESOME!!!
You are a true hero!
Thank you for this! I have Xreal Air but when I turn on widescreen the glasses simply turn off. Like the resolution is not supported or something. I see you are using the same glasses in your demo? It should work right?
There are a lot of reasons this might happen. For example, I have an HDMI adapter that only allows widescreen to work on my XREAL glasses but not my other glasses -- using the same adapter! Anyway, we'd first want to pinpoint whether it's an issue with my GNOME extension or not, so try turning off the XR effect, then enabling widescreen mode (by holding the volume/brightness-up button on the glasses for a few seconds). If you see your desktop (don't worry that it's doubled and impossible to use), then the widescreen issue is being caused by my extension. If the glasses do as you described and turn off or go black, then it's a hardware issue that can't be resolved by my app.
@@WayneHeaney Found a solution! Connected the glasses to a Mac and updated using the Nebula app (the Chrome update didn’t work), and voilà - widescreen! I hope this helps anyone else facing the same issue. THANK YOU for your great work Wayne! You're a hero.
i have the xreal air 1 and have no issues with widescreen mode.i am using usb-c video output of my pc. Maybe the issue is related to the firmware of the xreal? i have a newer firmware with 120 hz support
Incredible
Great work! Hopefully, the gamescope changes don't run into any road block.
Nice work!
Thanks!
Awesome news!!!
Awesome
That IS amazing!😊👍
Thank you for your hard work!
I have a nice 2019 MacBook Pro with a broken screen. To expensive to replace. Thanks to your work I finally made it headless, installed Linux and breezy. It's currently my favourite laptop. 🎉 A great dev machine
Whoa that's great news! I had someone else try Linux-on-Mac with less success. If you don't mind, could you share your setup? Maybe even document it in the wiki: github.com/wheaney/breezy-desktop/wiki
Can it work with mac os. Are you plan to make this for mac os. I hate nebula for mac
My focus is solely on Linux for now.
Nebula is garbage, they could learn a think or two from this approach
@@rafepurnell7000 In their defense, it's a lot easier to achieve on platforms like Linux that are all about open-ness.
Great work! Thinking about getting the Viture pro, but wanted to ask you before getting them, I saw on your reddit that the plugin only supports games in Vulkan, and you're trying to make it steam deck wide so it supports all games. This post was months ago though so not sure on your progress on this. Is it still not supported on all games? Thanks man!
It's still only Vulkan. I took a break from the gaming stuff to focus on Breezy for the last 6 months. I'm juggling some competing priorities, so I still don't have an ETA on the all-of-game-mode solution for deck.
@@WayneHeaney ah okay that makes sense, good luck in your projects!
This is amazing!
Thanks!
awesome work!
Thanks ❤️
great thank you so much, this is awesome! is there a possibility to get a 3d view like we had with nvidia 3d vision? this time it could be so much better as the tech is better, we have 2 independent screens and no flickering lenses are needed.
I don't know what Nvidia 3D vision did. Do you have a link?
fascinating how lightweight it is
Yep, that was the goal from the beginning! I go over it in more detail in some of my earlier videos if you're interested.
Hello Wayne. Quick question... I work with drones and I have to create 360 panorama images which I check later on my PC. Is there a way to use the Xreal air to be inside the panorama and look around? Thanks a lot in advance!
It's definitely possible, though I haven't personally done it. I came across this, but I'd recommend Googling around yourself to see all the options: moonvrplayer.com/
@@WayneHeaney I'll check it out. Thanks
@@WayneHeaney I got it to work on my Steam deck by installing FSPviewer and then adding it to Steam. Once in gaming mode, I activated VR lite and then set controls as mouse. The result is you can be inside the 360 panorama image and look around. It isn't perfect but definitely useful. It would be super cool to be able to use this in android through Nebula. I'm going to donate this week btw. Thanks.
@@Ironfist76 Wow, sounds like your persistence paid off. I'm glad you figured it out.
Dude!!! you are a hero
This is amazing!! Question is there an update recently? Mine doesn’t seem to be working, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I downloaded decky, installed xr gaming and tried the plug in but it doesn’t seem to be working . Also will be donating as soon as I get this to work
Certain functionality like the pinned virtual display and follow positioning/resizing only work in-game, specifically with Vulkan games. That's usually the biggest culprit. If recommend pulling up the help using the button at the bottom of the XR Gaming view if you're still having trouble. Or join us in the discord.
@@WayneHeaneythank you for that I I’ll join in and try to use vulkan games. I’m was trying astral ascent. Thanks again
Does it work with rayneo air 2 or rokid max? Cause only these 2 are available in my country
Yes, the RayNeos work, with Rokid support on the way eventually too.
Is possible install it on Lenovo Legion Go with bazitte?
The XR Gaming decky plugin can be installed using decky loader on Bazzite. Just note that it won't be automatically applied to all games like it is on actual deck hardware, so you have to set the environment variable described in step 3 here: github.com/wheaney/breezy-desktop#manual-installation If you're asking about Breezy Desktop with widescreen like I showed in this video, it would be possible on LeGO only if you're using the GNOME desktop environment.
@@WayneHeaney Is it possible to run Breezy Desktop on Bazzite Desktop, whenever upcoming KDE Plasma support gets implemented? I don't use steam game mode, this would be amazing if I could use this on Bazzite KDE Desktop!
@@freddynzeiss Someone provided instructions for getting it working in Steam Deck's desktop mode (using a nested GNOME session), but a couple people have tried on Bazzite without success. Bazzite provides a GNOME desktop option, that would be your best bet. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until I add KDE support.
@@WayneHeaney copy that, I will explore the bazzite gnome setup...if not i will see about using an accessory for spatial display in the meantime. many thanks for your reply!
Beautiful ❤️ can't wait to try it on my Xreal. I hope they can see sense and release the SDK. So many are asking for it in discord Just installed it. Great work. I know you say it's sub par on the Xreal. Compared to nebula it's amazing. A game changer for me
Glad it's working well for you.
