Regarding Heir: According to the author, you don't need to have read the Ember in the Ashes quartet, BUT it does reveal where some of the characters for that series end up! So if you don't want to spoil yourself on that series, I'd recommend reading it first. (And I highly recommend - it's one of my favorite series of all time!)

Personally I loved Just For The Summer and really enjoyed the romance from the beginning. I can understand where you’re coming from with Emma not being emotionally available, though I have to say I disagree. I think she was into him and their relationship, but she was scared, and she definitely needed to work on her own issues before being able to fully be in it. I thought it was so heartbreaking and realistic that she was able to recognize like I can’t do this right now, you deserve better than what I can give you and to walk away so she could heal. Her doing that and coming back only made their relationship stronger in the end

Just for the Summer is easily Abbey Jimenez's weakest book. She is my favorite romance author and all of her other books have gotten 4.5 and 5 stars from me, but Just for the Summer just got 4 stars...and barely. It was probably closer to a 3.5 for me which was really disappointing. So, you're not alone.
