Under Water Video Setup For Less $1000
Переглядів 49Рік тому
The go-to entry-level under water camera is a GoPro, but Is that the best for the money? Once you buy the latest GoPro, dive tray, and light you're not a million miles away from the cost of the setup I use and talk about in this video. You're not going to feature on National Geographic anytime soon with this set up but it'll give you much more variety and quality of shots, in my opinion.
My Drone Got Seized In Egypt Customs

Do not try to bring a drone into Egypt. I didn't check before I went (I know, i should have) and had a real headache trying to get my drone back.

Rode two days at Bike Park Wales in May 21. First day it lobbed it down but was a good crack. We got on it in the Airbnb then felt jank for the second day, and I basically crashed. KO on impact, open fracture of left clavicle, torn right rotator cuff, a couple of broken ribs! Sweet!

Honestly, I really badly want to go Egypt, but because of this drone nonsense I've been avoiding the country for 5 years. I'll wait as long as it takes until they sort it out.
I plan on mailing it to my guide, take everything off the drone as much as possible. the mini 3 pro shoots amazing, ao the less I send the better.
hey look i am an egyption man and i am not happy in this country and i want to fly away from it but as every one kwons that egypt's curncy is about 1doller for evrey 70 pound and it is over 150 thouthent pound for a flight. when i see those kind of vidos i feel very upset about my contry but in little years i will die and forget about the bad life i had.
Go glen^^
👊🏼
Hey man I know im a bit late but doing a global doc 6+ months. I will be passing through Egypt, and I don't have the luxury of leaving the drone behind. Is there a possibility to have it in my carry on and leave it in a in airport luggage locker or something similar? Cheers
Hey dude. I didn’t see any lockers at the airport when I was there, but check. The rules there change a lot. I just know they’re very strict about drones. From my experience they wanted to take it off me so they could charge to get it back. The lockers are a good shout if they have them there. Good luck on the doc mate
worst place to visit
Egypt is the worst
🎉
nice work. thanks for sharing
Yes..Ive travelled to Egypt many times. My last visit was in June..The attitude has changed quite alot. Iwas there during the revolution, I got caught up in it, it was horrific. i decided that i should revisit, get some closure..Sadly, it felt much worse going through Cairo airport & being took to one side for questioning & asked some crazy questions about weed or my sexuality prefrence. The people in Egypt are not as I use to remember, not as friendly, in fact, they seemed rude towards me.. only friendly of sorts when it comes to money..All in all, if your a tourist or not of their faith.. you will be treated differently. yes. Egypt has changed. I didnt feel safe & couldnt wait to come back.
That’s a great insight. Shame it has that feel to it now

it just hapened to me at aswan airpot , they confiscate my drone 😢
😩 ah no way! I hope you can get it back…
Mine was seized too , if only I had seen this video a 2 weeks ago
Oh no! Did you get it back?
@@coachglenjepson nope!
Ah, no way! Sorry to hear that :(@@Sonto_Radebe
It’s fine I’ll live lol
00:38 :)🤩
Sorry to hear the crap you went through.. new government is obsessed with pics and videos.. but as you said, diving with the gopro there makes up for it.
100% agree - It's cool to have the drone footage to tell a better story but it's all about the UW footage
Cheers for the heads up and story. Like some of the other comments i am off to Sharm in a few weeks and would love to fly there...definitely wont be risking it.. and don't worry about the Karen comment.. There is always one Idiot.
Thanks Phil, I quite enjoy chatting to Karen’s 😂 Have a great holiday mate 👍🏼
Your upset and surprised becuase the Egyptian Customs seized a drone capable of spy craft without bribing? Lol.....unreal. Your level of naivety is legendary
Just a heads up, it's 'You're'. I like the irony in your name 'Be Kind'. It wasn't my first rodeo, dude, I'm well aware of the corruption and the military control. I took my chance and this time it didn't pay off. It did mean I was able to produce a piece of content to educate those that may not have a good understanding of certain 'regulations'. It's also encouraged conversation and engagement, even if negative and personal like your comment. It all works for the algorithm so I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Have a great day, sounds like you could do with one! ;)
Spy craft?! If he wants to spy he won't take a drone through the airport the satellite is there! Besides ur saying he can bribe people to spy freely in the country wow that's amazing 😂😂 This is the dumbest comment i've seen!
@@emnas82 your comment is actually dumb. Drones are obviously a security threat because of it’s potential for spy craft. You can’t film through a window in real time with a satellite.. To think a country wouldn’t give you a hard time for bringing a drone in without DOA approval is naive. It’s not standard to return security threats.. he’s lucky he got it back.
you must be egyptian. Educated yourself first, and then educate your country. after that, you can comment
They just want to steal
Hello Do i have to take permission from ECAA for carrying drone in cairo?? We r traveling from india, Can i store it at Cairo Airport and collect it before our ongoing flight to greece…
Hey. Even with an ECAA card I think it’s still tough to take a drone through. You might get it through no problem but it’s a chance you’ll have to take. As for storage, not sure, mine was just taken. I think I was lucky to get it back. If you can find private storage lockers then that would be your best bet in my opinion.
Thanks for the review man. I'll be in Egypt in 2 weeks. I have a Mavic Mini 2 but I feel like this may be a risk I should not take. Especially since I'll be flying to different cities in the country so the chances of my drone getting caught in at least one of the airports is pretty high. My family is from Egypt so I know exactly the kind of headache those guys can be.
Hey Ahmed, yeah it’s a risk. I’d probably try it in my hold luggage next time but that could still end up getting seized!
ddi you take your drone?
Need help . They seized my drone in Aswan airport . Now I in Cairo . What to do now ?
Oh man, sorry to hear that. You need to go back to the airport and get it. They should have given you a receipt with a daily charge for storage.
@@coachglenjepson no man … I negotiate with them till almost fight with each other . They insist seized, and force me to sign a “voluntarily give up form” if I don’t sign deny me check in . If I don’t sign they going to arrest me .
@@magiachung9701 oh man, that really sucks, sorry to hear that. Not much you can do about it now. If you have insurance that covers your equipment claim on that to get a replacement
same hapen to me in aswan confiscate my drone for sure they will try to sell it there is a lot of co rruption
Thanks for your story!!! SO if i want to bring my drone to Cairo i can put it in the luggage and for example inside the sleeping bag and put a packet with the chargers and wires above it ? the sleeping bag will not be checked what is inside by security of the airport and the batteries took in my backpack as the powerbanks? What do you think? I did it in Oman and it worked perfectly!
Hey, no problem! I don't want to say that its a good idea to sneak it in your hold luggage, but if its worked before, I'm sure it'll work again. I'll definitely give it a go. Batteries definitely in your carry on though, no way do you want to be responsible for a battery fire in the hold of the aircraft!
I think drones are allowed in Oman, especially if you have a Micro drone below 250 grams. Drones are not banned in Oman. However, drones are almost banned in Egypt. That's a major difference.
Hi!! So, I will be on Cairo for two days next week, and after that Im going to Turkey, and I really want to take mi DJI Mini 3 pro with me. So one question, do you think that the issue is the same if I take it inside my registered luggage? Because I wouldnt have to pass security inside the airport with it. Thank you!
Hi! So on the way back they made me put in in my hold luggage. When I go again I will definitely put the drone in there first to skip the security headache. If you’re going to do the same then I’d say you’d be alright unless they have reason to check it….which is unlikely
@@coachglenjepson Hey! Here is the update, I did not get in trouble!! So, the drone (mini dji 3 pro) was on my registered bag with the remote, the batteries were on my carry on. After arriving to Cairo, after picking up the registered bag there is a x ray machine for the bags, but they didnt check anything. So, Im in Turkey now and very happy that they didnt take my drone hahaha.
@@LasNotasdelDoctor Great news, well played 🤙🏼
Egyptian filmmaker here. I know how much of a nightmare it can be. The government is paranoid about journalists opposing them, so they ensure that all footage captured shows the nice and polished areas of Egypt, ignoring the poor 3rd world looking areas. As for the drone, they believe it can be used to spy on them and it is hard to track. Definitely not the best place for shooting. But if you live there long enough, you’ll know the ins and outs of how and where to shoot.
Totally understand. The Egyptian dive masters on the boat I was on explained just that. I know the country relies heavily on tourism and they don’t want to show the bad bits. I can add drone content in my footage if guys like you get the footage and upload it to stock footage sites 🤘🏼 A good way of making money. If they don’t allow drones in, capitalise off that and get lots of it uploaded and get the royalties 👌🏼
@@coachglenjepson I’d love to do that, and I’ll try. As for tourism, they call themselves a tourist friendly country, but there are scammers everywhere and the cultural areas are very disorganized. The government doesn’t seem to be doing anything to make if easier for tourists. Very unfortunate for a country that could use our history to our advantage. Hope things get better soon…
I visited Egypt a little over a year ago. I tried to declare my drone at customs, but the security didn't care. I said drone and pointed at my bag and they asked me to put it through the scanner. They probably missed it and just let me through... I ended up flying in the country.
That’s lucky man! Great that you managed to fly, hope you got some nice footage 👌🏼
Sorry for all the BS hassles you had to put up with because you were making it difficult for some cheese ball airport security guard trying to steal your gear, but I look at it this way, you got the Drone back and you got a great story to tell, so Win-Win!! Also a good life lesson in droning that you are generously sharing with the rest of us. Primarily, always check ahead when traveling to ensure any of our property won't be seized buy some thieving slack jawed idiot airport security worker's who thinks he lucked into a easy workplace lottery win by putting one over on what he thought was a dopey rich unprepared Traveler instead he gets a guy willing to fight back shocks the shit out of them chances are he'll be very careful before he pulls his scam again! Your actions will make things easier for the rest of us going forward! LOL Good on you for protecting your kit & thank you for sharing your story! Cheers!
Sums it up nicely! I definitely made a mistake of not checking ahead, lesson learned. It was a headache, glad to have it back. I’m sure it won’t be the last issue I have!! 😂
As an Egyptian, I am extremely ashamed, I hate this country. I believe God cursed us with these horrible governments for eternity. Don't go back there, they are in dire need of every foreign currency specially $USD.
All are corrupt......money money
Glen whats up man! Thanks for the video this helps because I will be traveling to Egypt next month. I am traveling with a-lot of camera gear. A7siii, Black Magic Poket 6k, Rs2 Gimbal, and many lenses. Prob about 7 lenses as I am a full time film maker / travel. Do you think this will be an issue ? I don't want to risk getting these all taken from me! Let me know any info would really help!
Hey Judson, no problem dude. I also had an FX3, A7iii, 3 lenses and my underwater rig in my bag (look at us flexing our camera gear 😅). They wanted to search my bag in one of the thousand dodgy x-ray scanners on the way out of the country (it’s relentless!) but they were so slack the didn’t notice me just walk straight past the security guard doing the searches. I seen a few other guys with a lot of cameras having their bags checked but they’re not worried about handheld gear, just drones. You’ll be all good with your gear man. Once in the country just be weary of edgy guys that want money off you if you point the camera at them. And don’t point it in the direction of military. Other than that, enjoy the trip…once you get past the airport!
thanks for the video i got a trip to egypt next week and was wondering if u can bring drones and go pros.
GoPros and DSLR’s are all good to take, just don’t take a drone 👌🏼

Awesome beautifully edited video! What video editor did you use?
Hi Hilda, thank you. I used GoPro Cineform to edit this. The software is good (and free) but I've found its limitations now. I've invested into adobe Premiere Pro for my next videos as I now have other cameras and GoPro Cineform only supports GoPro files.
