I'm thinking of the u of u professor on the story of racism in the Mormon church. I liked when he talked about "eternal progression" and that Brigham Young is out there, no longer holding to his racism of 1852, and neither should we...but, I also like the concept of purgatory from the Catholic church, and cannot help thinking that: "his spirit is doomed for a certain term to walk the night, and for the day confined to fast in fires, till the foul crimes done in his days of nature are burnt and purged away." 10 extra years of slavery in Utah! On his head! That only came to a stop with action from the United States! Oh the evil!!! What a great burden on his spirit!... to be burnt and purged away! I think the u of u professor was undervaluating the severity of his crimes when he spoke. And in truth, if we could meet up with him, he'd say: "That I am forbid to tell the secrets of my prison house, I could a tale unfold whose lightest word would harrow up thy soul, freeze thy young blood, make thy two eyes, like stars, start from their spheres."
