honda hornet gearbox noise or is gbox playing catch up making sound due to no load on rear wheel clutch bearing ok drive bearing no play ok got to be inside box or drive double roller bearing has gone on one side giving false no play in it

This machine came in rusty parts and was found in a cellar in scotland This is the build part 7 aand the full dvd will be done shortly by the middle of this year

    The Chinese pillion seat covers are actually good quality for the money,had mine for £40, Kawasaki taking the piss with the price of a genuine one👍

    Which mirrors are those? How did you mount the windshield?

      screen mounted from brackets made of alloy to screen then to top of headlight 3 in total the mirrors on ebay carbon look folding in 9 quid. they give you all the base screws for different size mounts .

    Im after changing my engine on my gk76 1992 and putting a 1997 engine in it the sp2, but not starting proberly either, i switched the pick up cover and was wondering would that be my problem

      2 wires to pick up coil need swapping for new sprag clutch polarity to cdi box (

    Great video..i own a 1981 kz200 here in bali island indonesia, but i come with different gas tank type and rear lamp holder...in Indonesia its called 'binter Merzy kz200' binter stand for bintang terang the first authorized dealer here in indonesia...

    same noise on my 919 at 26k miles. Runs fine off stand so I'm leaving it as is. Curious as to what the problem is and the fix. Got new chain/sprocket on mine at 30mm play

      no i used the later model cams from the earlier bike you know when they changed the bhp they changed the sprag clutch and cdi and cams Stripes onour site told me about this then advanced the spark 3 deg by filing away the bosses on the pick up coil casing.think they are about .010 inch more lift on these cams i would have to look it up

    it's catch up on the gearbox due to being on stand and running but new sprocket and chain solved it chain was also unevenly stretched

    Hi, have you worked out what it is yet. I have a gk71f import and similar level of frustration with awful compression. Also is the timing inspection cover a normal clockwise thread? Ta andy

      i have had it started but electrics are old on this one everything has to be right carbs compression etc now it seems to have gone again of all the bikes i have built thisn one you cant get new parts for like pistons oversize then you know thats right its a case of buy some barrels check dimensions and chose the best ones

    HI mate. 90 psi is far too low for that gsxr engine. They usually run 150 -190 psi hot with no plugs in on the comp tester. What are your compression readings cold across each pot? I know 73 engines pretty well but not 76 so much, but they have similarity's right? If your ignition is only a degree or 2 out it will start ok. Use the std twin electrode plugs maybe?

      +John Jackson the problem i had was a coil checked out at correct homes then when running it whent down to nothing never had where ya check leve the meter on and it then goes from 3.5 to nothing changed coil fired 1st time

      hello ., i am also having the issue of gear box sound..when i ride bike around the speed of 50 60 and i press clutch ...the dug dug dug dug sound comes...i dont know the reason behind it..if you found the solutionof this...please let me know.

    Great video John, thanks for taking the time to post it. I have a 1978 KZ200 with 260 original miles that I am building. Interesting story behind it. The engine has a good bit of corrosion on it from cat urine where it was stored so I am taking it to be soda blasted. I prefer the look of the raw aluminum but I am wondering if it will hold up or if any of the cases are magnesium and will quickly corrode if exposed. Also, I am wondering if there are any upgrades I can do to the oiling system or journals to increase longevity of the engine also. Thanks, Aaron

      aaronvaz1 oil system always take a cam cover of every now and again to see if oil is moving to head Always change oil at 4000 miles dont use the cheapes oil castrol i use cases will go fast if not painted so if you opaint get it sprayed first coat as SOOON as you have cleaned up block etc Damp in atmospere will get into alloy and peel off if u dont do this streight away Heads r verry prone to going after some milage on them see if u can also get a spare. regards john

      +aaronvaz1 I HAVE SINCE LEARNED ON OIL CONTROL those little o rings in the head to barrels assembly u get with the Gasket kit are no good So i have made my own by taking some material of the thickness to give more seal compression

    Awesome video! Funny thing I recently purchased a 1983 Z200. I'm having some trouble finding a proper rear tire though. Those 3.25 - 17 rubbers seem harder to find than I foresaw. Any suggestions where to look or a particular brand/type?

      hi quad yep you will have some trouble to But the tyre you want to go for thats more of a rear classic bike nature is to fit one of these 3.50 X 17 INCH REAR TYRE MADE BY HENG SHIN 2 PLY NYLON THREADS this is a preety good road holding tyre and looks the part one fitted to mine (now this will be a we bit wider than standard but their is plenty clearance on the swinging arm OK START WITH EBAY THATS WHERE I GOT MINE regards john oh and have a look at the 1928 triumph build on here by me

    no the kawasaki is worst but i herd the bugger when leaving trafic lights replaced chain sprockets etc and not to bad now think it was the verry badly stretched chain that did it but it looke ok then when i got it off well new one needed

    the mags used for the 1928 model n HI Petricek two types where used although you dont say if magdyno 1/ A LUCAS KSA1 OR 2/ A LUCAS MDB1 i got hold of 2 bad mags and made them into one good one you may find though if no spark you need it refurbished because the magnets have lost their magnatism hope this helps regards john

      well it was like made one out of 2 mags and it runs in opposite direction to std mags off other bikes so realy cant help on type cost me 300 quid to get rewound

    I have the same problem, on stand and on the road. I increased the idle by 200rpm which settled it out but now I've got some sort of rattle from the chain only when I coast or pull the clutch in at slow speeds... :(

    no didnt been told kawasaki is much worse cos its catchup on the gearbox not under load but i dont think thats right sliped of clutch side and checked tab nut was not loose behinjd clutch that was ok so im just running it as it is no play on double bearing on drive side gbox will see if it gets worse who knows could be catchup with no no load you dont say weather yours was on stand when you tried this and any clonks when ya riding bike on change gears
