Great video JP. Seriously have a think about picking up some battery secateurs. I've got a pair of Stiga ones, which are great. Stihl hadn't brought out a pair when I needed them, as I've got the GTA26, wish I'd hung on a bit longer. I do love a trip to Charlies, I'm based on the Wirral (not too far away from your neck of the woods), I have to pop over the border to Queensferry to visit my nearest store - spend a fortune everytime 😄
Id be like a kid at Christmas in a shop like that!
😂 Yep, it’s a nightmare as it’s literally 2 mins from my house too.. my lock up is starting to look like this shop lol! Cheers for watching mate and all the best 👍🏻👍🏻 JP
Done a great job JP on them Elderberry bushes, i do not like them we cut and poison out, looking forward to see what you purchased 👍👍
Thank you so much mate, yeah to be honest I have a feeling next year they will get me to remove them completely, they grow from what I have cut them to here to at least 5 feet taller again by summer and are a bit of a pain for them and the neighbour. Thank you mate, all will be revealed in the next vid if I get the time to edit before our wedding this coming Thursday 😊💒 If not will be after honeymoon bud. Always appreciate your comments on here. All the best JP 👍🏻👍🏻
@@JP_livingthedream congratulations to you both on getting married have a lovely day 🍾🥂
Thank you mate, we can’t wait 😊👍🏻👍🏻
where that store please ?
Hey, it’s in Shrewsbury, Shropshire mate. I only showed a little of what they stock but they literally sell everything from Stihl to Echo to Husky etc. fantastic place. Thanks for watching and all the best 👍🏻👍🏻 JP
@@JP_livingthedream so much choice there , nothing like that in lincolnshire here . cheers 🍻
Yeah we are quite lucky here as there are a few places in and around my town that sell plant and machinery.. if you’re ever this way I’d 100% recommend a visit to ‘Charlie’s Store, Shrewsbury’ Take care mate 🍻👍🏻
Nice job again mate good to see you wearing safety gear I lost 50% of my sight in the right eye a stone hit me in the center of the eye and cut it right through the center I learned the hard way 👍 👍👍👍
Oh mate, that must have been awful for you bud 😞 sorry to hear that pal. Yeah I always either have my mask or safety goggles on when cutting, plus gloves and the rest of the gear. Thanks for sharing that and I hope that it’s not hampered you too much. Always appreciate your comments on here mate. Take care and all the best JP 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video and luckily you found that golf club. Is your Sthil Mower an RM430?
Thank you mate, appreciate that.. that mower was the RM443- I use that on the medium size lawns.. my heart was in my mouth when I realised that golfing iron was buried and sticking out the ground under me 😬🤦🏻♂️ Thank you for watching, really appreciate it. All the best JP 👍🏻
Great job JP, touch wood we haven't had any heavy frost yet 🥶👍
Thank you mate😊, yeah it was a bit of a shock to see the frost on windscreen yesterday.. but then afterwards it was mild all day.. the grass is STILL growing which in 20 years is getting to a stage I’ve not seen often, last year I did the final cuts the last week in October. Thank you for watching as usual mate, really appreciate it 😊😊 Take care JP 👍🏻
Keep up the good videos mate but no to reviews of non gardening related goods!
Thanks mate, appreciate it.. and don’t worry, I’ve got a few new tools that I’ve already recorded reviews on which will be coming up over the festive period 😊 Thanks again and all the best JP 👍🏻
@ great look forward to seeing them👍🏻
It's not nice when you are mowing away and you hear that awful bang have done it before so now im like you i always check first better to be safe than sorry 👍👍👍👍
Oh yes, that noise is what nightmares are made of mate.. my heart was in my mouth as the golf club had been pressed down into the soft ground and the iron part was sticking up but hidden by the long grass so if I’d have hit it, the blade would have smashed to bits 😬 Thankfully not this time 😊 Thanks ever so much for watching as usual pal. Take care JP 👍🏻
Mate......I once drove a customers kubota ride on over a metal rod (plant stake) that had been discarded in the grass. The deck had to be rebuilt........he was superb about it but you can imagine how I felt!! I think it cost him over £300 ten years ago. I felt sick about it. By the way, I'm still cutting grass up here......bizarre. All the best Dave (N. Yorks)
Hi mate, wow that must have been a nightmare for you bud.. I’m constantly paranoid about rolling over stuff, especially when I’m asked to cut overgrown lawns covered in leaves like this one 😬 Yeah the growth here hasn’t stopped either yet, few cold mornings but the days are mild and I’m still in a T-Shirt every day. Thank you for watching and sharing your experience too. All the best JP 👍🏻
@@JP_livingthedream No sweat bruv. I think I'll be doing my final cut on Monday........this dry spell has to come to an end soon!! Yup, I'm in T shirt every day too.......once I've done some work and warmed up a bit!!!! Good luck getting to 1000 subscribers by the way.
Cheers mate, it’s been a bit of a labour of love this channel, it’s a lot of work to edit the footage and also film on site, especially on the days I have multiple jobs planned… but I do really enjoy it. Take care pal 👍🏻
@@JP_livingthedream You too mate!👍
I have a Saker, uk version. £50.00 on Amazon with a single battery. I was tempted by the Stihl but it costs nearly 3 times more and as a non-professional, I don't plan to give it heavy use. So far, so good. Cuts really well and the only gripe is that the chain tension is fiddly to adjust. The big advantage of these in my short experience of it, is being able to hold an overhanging branch while you cut it so it doesn't drop into the neighbour's garden. I bought some chainsaw gloves to go with it as I don't want my fingers ending up in the neighbour's garden either! Really enjoying your channel and your generous sharing of your expertise.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Saker, I’ve heard nothing but good things about them and you’re quite right, a fraction of the price of the Stihl and other big name ones. Thank you so much for your comment, glad you are enjoying the channel.. big things planned for the new year. All the best JP 👍🏻👍🏻
I bought the ferex one from Aldi £35 you will not believe the jobs I’ve done with it and I already had 3 spare batteries from a couple of drills I had, and the chain is still going strong 3 years warranty on it so if it goes wrong in that time just get my money back. Not that I’m bothered as it’s paid for it’s self ten times over now. I’m a big stihl fan but couldn’t stretch this far in my first year.
Wow that’s exactly why I wanted to hear from others who have tried different ones as I’ve looked at so many and read hundreds of reviews and the not so ‘well known’ makes seem to be getting good feedback. Some of the ones from Amazon even utilise the Dewalt drill batteries which I have loads of. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment mate, All the best 👍🏻👍🏻 JP
Good things, as a regular chainsaw user, that manual oiling would be too much ball-ache for me. Also, I can really only afford one tool so its a regular, chainsaw for me but you nearly sold it to me, you're right it does exactly what a gardener needs.
Thank you for watching, and appreciate the comment.. yeah I couldn’t ever have a manual oiling regular chainsaw, but with this one only being used now and then on the small stuff, I’m hoping it won’t become too much of a pain. Knowing my luck Stihl will update the model soon and include an auto oiling feature 🤣 All the best mate JP 👍🏻
Great review mate nice bit of kit it will earn it's weight in gold 👍👍👍👍
Thank you mate, it certainly seems to be a very capable tool, time will tell but if it saves me some time here and there I’ll take that. Have a great weekend mate JP 👍🏻👍🏻
Really good review JP, i have a saker its ok but the motor is on the side and it can catch up when cutting but does me for my diy cutting 👍👍
Thank you mate, yeah the Saker was the first one I remember seeing, it looks good also, and then there’s cheaper ones on Amazon etc. This one is impressive and I’ve just found out you can buy replacement parts, longer bars/chains etc so it should last a long time fingers crossed 🤞🏼 Have a great weekend bud JP 👍🏻👍🏻
Great vid mate, something I have been looking to buy.looks impressive.
Thank you mate, yes it was definitely better than I expected it to be, will have it on a job next week where I have a fair bit of small stuff to saw so will see how we get on. Appreciate the comment mate and all the best 👍🏻👍🏻
This time of year I'm sure will get alot of use. I'm not far from you. I have a small garden maintenance business in Ludlow.
@@martinjarman7385Fair play mate, yeah we’re not far.. give me a shout if you ever need anything 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice one 👌 just deleted my comment by mistake 🤦♂️. Good for you for actually mentioning figures. I must have watched a dozen of these where the gardeners don’t mention any numbers. 220 “profit” after your 50 & 40 fees sounds good to me. For a days solid hedge cutting I currently charge 250 and agree with the customer beforehand that any waste charges will be extra. Could be 50, could be 100, depends on how much waste And I just add 20 quid or so for my time transporting. My local council have just started charging £190 for a medium sized van of green trade waste. Wood chipper is my next investment Anyway keep up the videos I’m going back through them now and watching 👍
@@theewhaler Sounds good to me that mate, nice work 👍🏻 Thanks again for watching and all the best, JP
Nice work JP you looked like Darth Vader with the way you were slinging that hedge trimmer around! 😂
Haha thank you mate and may the force be with you 🤣👍🏻
Hi what awning is that on your van? Great video
Hey, thank you for your comment.. it’s a FIAMMA F35 pro.. it’s not the longest but does the job when needed 😊 All the best JP 👍🏻
@JP_livingthedream cheers looks smart
When Autumn winter comes I move from gardening to exterior cleaning I have all the gear gutter vac long reach brushes chemical tanks I get a lot of well paid work these seasons. I've just purchased an Ifor Williams P8E and a Rock venom chipper so I can take on some big hedge and tree work so can't wait to get them in action. I'm from Shrewsbury originally then moved to Portsmouth and now live in Cornwall
Hi mate, great to hear from another Shrewsbury guy in the trade. Yeah I’ve just bought a Cobra chipper mate and I’ve considered gutter vac myself as the amount of times my customers ask me if I know anyone who does it. Thanks so much for the comment mate and all the best 👍🏻 JP
@@JP_livingthedream Definitely get a gutter vac mate and some long brushes for washing them too very good money 💰
Nice job JP as always good to see you back mate hope you had a good Halloween as i did with my grandkids and i filmed it and put it on Facebook 👍👍👍👍
Thank you my mate, yeah was a nice Halloween. My children are a bit older now but they still love this time of year. Glad you had a good one 👍🏻 All the best JP
Really good video JP, got a break in the weather yesterday🌞 so all the grass got cut
Thank you so much mate, yeah was nice to finally get back on with things.. also been struggling with a knee Injury again but hopefully on the mend now. Thanks again bud, top man 👍🏻 JP
Spot on, I've made exactly the same mistakes. I was employed doing grounds maintenance for 17 years, been self employed for 11 years. I didn't understand business and finances, took on way too much work, priced to cheap, tried pleasing everyone. Getting there now, but what a journey.
Do you do all your mowing with a push mower? Do you own or use a riding mower?
@@samueljaramillo4221 Depends which gardens I’m doing, I do have access to ride on mowers when I need them, but I tend to be able to manage using my self propelled machines. Thanks for watching 😎👍🏻
Hello from America. You certainly know what your doing. I know what you’re going through in your job. I was a manager of a twenty seven hole golf course for twenty two years. I managed a maintenance crew of thirty. Budgets for insurance, irrigation ,machines, fertilizers, chemicals. And the golf course members. All of these things had to be addressed year after year. After twenty two years I was ready to leave this very stressful job. And it was the best decision made and never regretted it. So keep doing what your doing. You are on the right track to success.
Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment.. it really means a lot 😊 Wow it sounds like your job was extremely busy to say the least. I learnt groundwork’s over 25 years ago and have always loved working outside, although this isn’t my only job, I also work for our local water company as well as running my business so it’s a busy life. Nice to hear from you, All the best JP👍🏻
Great video
Thank you very much for the kind comment 👍🏻 All the best JP
I feel for you mate,I'm a self-employed chippy I've been off work 10 weeks so far and I'm looking at a possible 12 months plus off unable to drive so looking at 4 walls everyday and getting excited at getting out to go to hospital appointments
Ah mate it’s a nightmare isn’t it.. hope you can get sorted asap, sounds like you’re having a tough time of it. All the best to you pal JP

Your experience as a new business owner sounds exactly the same as mine, albeit in a different trade! It was farcical lookong back now, but you soon learn!
I’m not a new business owner, been doing this for nearly 25 years 😂 Getting too old now tho, the body has had enough 🤦🏻♂️
Great job job JP especially on the last one good to see you back mate fit and well 👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much mate, it’s been a hard couple of months but glad to be back 😊
Good to see you back with another excellent video JP and tidy jobs done, the gardener my mum uses this time of year he cuts grass weather permitting and till he see`s frost forecast, he then stops
Thank so you much mate 🙏🏼 Yeah it’s pretty much like it is for me but the rain we have makes the gardens soft and end up making more mess if we go one them. Thanks again bud All the best JP
Loved the video do you have any recommendations on a divider between the stone and grass I after something long term so maybe not wood thanks
Thank you, means a lot 😊 I’ve used lots of different products over the years, there’s so much on the market now.. you can even get poly sleepers instead of timber, but depending on budget a lot of general supplies sell alternative edging products, such as Wickes, Huws Gray etc. I still quote a lot of people for standard, treated timber sleepers though. Best of luck mate, JP
I'm a self employed garden maintenance myself just got back myself two days ago broken my ribs and punched the menbane round the lung two weeks ago trying to catch up on my regular garden maintenance working Saturday and Sunday this week too not good but hay ho have a good weekend happy days 😊
Thank you for the comment mate, that sounds a a nasty injury.. make sure you don’t over do it during your recovery as if you make things worse you’ll be off again. It’s a tough job this at the best of times. Speedy recovery mate and all the best JP 👍🏻
Great video again, and good to see you back...🙂👍 That Wolffgarten hoe is the bees knees...one of the best bits of kit that I've purchased...gets the weeds out both ways and, as you say, along with the handrake it makes a beautiful job of the borders. 😊
Thank you so much mate, means a lot 😊 Yeah the Wolfgarten stuff is a game changer for me, really recommend it to anyone. So quick to achieve good results. I spent many years on hands and knees so it’s a god send. All the best mate JP 👍🏻
Which strimmer are you using mate......is it a recharcheable model? What do you think of it? We all live in fear of picking up an injury. Another informative video. Cheers mate!!
Hi mate, thank you for you kind comment.. it means a lot 😊 I have a few strimmers depending on what I need them for but the 2 I use in the video are the Stihl FSA57 which I use to edge the lawns and it’s a battery rechargeable model and the bigger brush cutter with the handlebar grip is the Stihl FS70 which is petrol.. I use that mainly for bigger clearance works with a blade on it. I love the Stihl stuff, not everyone does but it works for me and has for many years. Take care and all the best mate JP 👍🏻
@@JP_livingthedream No sweat mate....you come across well and you clearly have integrity. Yes, I'm a bit of a stihl fan boy........partly because it always makes sense to me to stick with one system. I've had a couple of comments recently.....mostly about my SH55 blower. I'd switch to some battery gear but at 60, I'm not sure how much longer I'll do it for so not so easy to justify now. But ya never know????? Best Dave

Season 1 for me and I've done exactly what you described, clearance jobs priced way too low and sweating by lunchtime knowing I'm nowhere near half way through - physically shot by the end of the day and morale tank empty safe in the knowledge I've got to go back in the morning to finish off! Lessons learnt but slowly getting better at it - still lots of pain to go through no doubt but posts like this are so helpful. Oh and I definitely skip around with my mower and strimmer making almost no money but I am happy at least 😆 Great video - thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for watching.. so now you need to price for what you’re worth mate.. we don’t need to be greedy nor sell ourselves short, just make a living with a little bit to cover holiday, sickness, and tools etc. Keep going 👍🏻👍🏻 JP
Great advice. So many hidden costs and variables. Obviously unwise to charge hourly. Concentrate on net profit, not what you've made that day without taking into account the 'hidden' costs. You talk a lot of sense. All the best to you and your business.
