You probably played 6 string guitars for decades? When you started on 8 string, did it feel totally different? When I bought my 7 string, I couldn’t play simple songs, without making mistakes. (House of rising sun) I didn’t touch 6 string for month) Everyday i practiced my 7 string. After two weeks I thought I was comfortable. But I didn’t know where I was on fretboard. Two weeks before I realize low B string is same notes as high B string. Great playing!

Very cool. Wish more people outside of metal saw more potential in extended range instruments. There used to be a small group of people doing original compositions on these huge 11 or 12 string ("full range") basses but that's always been niche and I haven't seen any of it in a while.

Thanks! The gauges are 9 - 12 - 15 - 22 - 30 - 42 - 56 - 84. Both GHS and d‘Addario sell string sets optimized for Strandberg and both work well.
Do you use a high a tuning?
The tuning is drop E (i.e. E B E A D G B E). There are tabs for this song on ultimate-guitar.com.

Great Playing! I'm considering getting a strandberg 8 string for the exact same reason. I'd like to be able to accompany myself with some better bass lines. I'm still undecided between the 7 and 8 strings. I saw a few people saying the 8 string neck is a bit too heavy to keep it in the more upright position, that's how I prefer playing, as it tends to prefer the angle you're playing at. Is that your experience as well? Would you recommend the 8 or 7 string? thanks

The strandbergs are very light, for me the weight of the neck is not a problem. What is more of a concern with (all) 8 string guitars is the width of the neck. I have no experience with 7 string guitars.
@@dscataglini Drop E, drop A, drop D, i.e. the lowest three strings like a bass guitar, the upper five like a guitar. But I often change the tunings of the bass trings, depending on the song.
@@thomasbecher4571 Thanks, that kinda makes sense to me. If I were to do that I'd have to think as 2 separate instrument. The last 3 string as the bass, the rest as a guitar. Rather than a single instrument. ie: I'm on the 6th string, this is a bass specific string

FINALLY ! EVERY other film I have seen of people with 8 or 10 string guitars are of the musically uneducated with absolutely NO discernment for class, taste or elegance in physical touch. Just excellent. :) What brand and model guitar are using ? Have you ever played it with a "dark, smooth" jazz guitar sound. Bravo...and thank you for your help with my questions. :)

I am VERY interested in this guitar and would rather have this guitar than a Fender Standard Stratocaster. :) I have only a few questions. 1) Is it tuned to the standard tuning of a 8 string classical guitar ? 2) When played through a Boss GT-001 Affects Processor, could the guitar achieve that "smooth jazz sound" as in the film below ? @@globalonemusic2381 Hi Antione, 1) for the lowest two strings I use different tunings, in this song E and B (so drop E tuning). 2.) This beautiful archtop sound you will only get from an acoustic guitar, but I also like the sound of solid body guitars. However, you will need to use an amp (simulation) in the GT-001. Cheers, Tom
