      When I did them I always rotated left twice then reversed to right twice to unwrap. Or 3 left 3 right as long as you even out. Try that and see if it helps you out.

    I am a Section leader for cymbals at my high school, and I have never found anything more helpful than this. After watching this, my all-time favorite crash is the Gillatine. It looks so cool visually and goes well with the first movement of the show we're doing this year, "Paisajes De España" by Gary P. Gilroy. Subscribed for life!

    hey eddie, is there any particular way to clean cymbals and is there a method to breaking straps in?

    • @cymbaltechnique101
      @cymbaltechnique101 6 років тому

      Hey Sqwaush! I've seen hundreds of cleaning ideas over the years. I'm by no means the expert on cymbal cleaning but what we use is BarKeepers friend. Use a moist cloth to apply it and then polish it off with a dry cloth. When you are finished we usually put a light coat of ArmorAll spray protectant on it. Then we use Windex wipes after every use to keep the oil and sweat from sitting on it overnight. That usually works pretty well for us. For breaking in the straps, when using leather straps we always scrubbed them on the edge of the cymbal to wear them in before using. For nylon straps we really don't do anything special. You just have to be aware that you are going to have to tighten them often.

  • @b0b213

    What's up? I was wondering if this new uploaded video is a kind of compilation of the previous videos which you deleted (chapter 9 crashes - part 1 to 4)? And does this video contain new crash types? And btw I love your videos. I'm from Germany and I'm actually playing marching snare, after a few years I also played bass drum and quint toms but cymbals were always a bête noir for me. Until I was asked to teach somebody in our marching band. I watched all your Videos more than once and now I really like to play the cymbals it's really fun. Anyway thx for you effort in producing these videos and for the nice explaining. It helps a lot :)

      Thanks BOB21 I truly appreciate that! It's really a fun art once you get into it. We spent 5 years in Stuttgart Germany and loved it. The new video does take place of the other 4 videos. A lot of stuff in the other 4 versions was very outdated so I wanted to update them with what we are currently using.

    Thanks For The Vid!! How Long Is The Strap??

    • @cymbaldude
      @cymbaldude 6 років тому

      We make each one specific to each player. Most of my high school kids have really small hands as compared to my Drum Corps kids.

    • @cymbaldude
      @cymbaldude 6 років тому

      When we cut our own we start with 3 inches of free strap then wrap around your hand like you are in the garfield grip and pull 3 inches past before cutting. Then after you cut your first strap and tie it, you will see how much excess strap is left. This lets you know if you should cut shorter or longer for the next strap.
