How to do a Compression Test On A BMW F650GS and Deactivate The Auto Compression Lever
To do a compression test on a BMW F650GS you need to remove the valve cover and deactivate the decompression lever in order to get an accurate reading.
This single cylinder engine has a high compression rate, I wasn't able to find any psi values from the BMW manual but searching online it seems a new engine sits between 140-155 psi. (I did not open the throttle while testing)

The trigger signal for your spark timing comes from a pulse generator in alternator side of the motor. There is a small coil there that picks up a pulse when a magnet on the alternator rotor passes it. Taking apart and reassembling the starter motor of an BMW F650GS. It took some trial and error but I eventually figured out the correct way to re-assemble it. It was a fairly simple process of cleaning the inside with break cleaner and re-greasing the bearing.

Don't stress, you don't need to cut that oil line off to remove the clutch cover on your BMW F650GS when you inevitably need to replace the water pump! Before taking everything apart, check if your water pump shaft has wear on it (ua-cam.com/video/DnbB_6BFXHo/v-deo.html) If it is still smooth, you will only need to replace the water pump seals and not the whole unit. This is a brief overview with the most important lessons I learnt from changing the shims on my f650GS Dakar. This is single spark 2001 model which uses 29mm shims in an over-bucket configuration. It will take some patience to remove the thermostat on your F650GS, but keep in mind that you will probably break the old thermostat if you manage to remove it - only remove it if you absolutely have to!

So basically you can't simply test this sensor using resistance and a multimeter. But the good news is, your bike will run without the oxygen sensor, so if you suspect the oxygen sensor on your BMW F650GS Dakar is causing problems, simply disconnect it and see if your problem is solved!
