Douglas Gordon: Timeline

Museum of Modern Art: Douglas Gordon (Scottish, b. 1966) visualizes, pictures, and "sculpts" time in many of his works. In 1993, Gordon presented a version of Alfred Hitchcock's film Psycho, projected onto a translucent screen and slowed down to a duration of twenty-four hours. Gordon's 24 Hour Psycho, which is included in this exhibition, marked the beginning of the artist's ongoing method of ...

Director Alfonso Cuarón & Co-writer Jonas Cuarón. Post screening discussion on the making of Gravity. 2013. USA. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón. Simple grace and elegance are extremely elusive qualities in studio-produced pictures. That Gravity has these qualities, as well as astonishing 3-D effects, and is set in space makes it an even more impressive accomplishment. Director Cuarón is known for h...

Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present

Are there more videos from that performance? Can u upload them all please
These 2 are the only ones I have but I've seen others online: UA-cam, Instagram
They are a literal blessing
Is there any videos for them at the museum?
The museum had someone video it professionally but I haven't seen it posted.
@@nyc10010 I heard that they prevented people from filming so they must post their videos to enjoy this greatness ☹️
@@hossammahmoud7219 The NY Times did an article on the show and a vid clip of Mashrou' Leila - www.nytimes.com/2019/07/16/arts/music/met-museum-oliver-beer-vessel-orchestra.html

Douglas Gordon: Timeline at Museum of Modern Art NY
Now that's talent!
I don't think the point was to put on a show for the people walking around. I think it was more for the person sitting across from her. It is far more personal to look into the eyes of a living breathing person. The beauty of it is that each person that sat with her came away from it with a completely different understanding of it. I imagine it could be a powerful experience for anyone if they sat there long enough.
the feeling of the artist being there, the feeling staring into each others eyes without any words coming out...if u dont know her work maybe perhaps it is pointless to you..but if u do and u experience it it might be something magnificent.
staring contest is now art
"art is a lie. nothing is real!" -bo burnham
Actually, most artists involved in performance art and "happenings" consider painting like a "dead" form of art. For example, the idea behing "happenings" is that the public needs to be involved in them, not just look at them and criticize them. When you make a painting, a sculpture or a theatrical performance, the public is always watching the work from some distance. Abramović makes a distincstion between theatre and performance art saying "performance is life itself."
hahahaha. So, what isn't bullshit?
Art is art and everything else is everything else.
why only sit on a table is better art to see her taking a dump we are all crazy ^^
Do you study Art? Something tells me not. And if you do, you need to do a little more research.
I'd say it's time she actually painted something, you know, using brushes and colors... I mean all this preparation, lasting for decades now, should be enough to finally produce a work of art, instead of presenting her endless process... Process is not art, context is not art, using body as a medium is just primitive. If an artist doesn't have any good ideas he/she should not enter the public just for the sake of exhibitionism, because you're taking space from someone who could actually create.
I'm going to completely agree with you and then say this if her art is just sitting and staring at people well she gave some idiot hipsters something to argue about. I know almost nothing of her so my statements are my opinion about the amount of knowledge i've gained by these small clips.
being there
I disagree. Marina is the architect of the exhibition, the designer of the show, the one who conceived and executed the idea. Of course the people who participate are PART of the artwork, in fact they are intrinsic to it. They may be artists in their own lives, or even for the moments they take the seat across from Marina, but really she is the artist of this work.
Marina has put performance art into perspective for me. For a long time I could not relate to it nor did I understand the purpose of it. After seeing a documentary on her which included bits of this Moma event, I have gain a different clarity on how things can be interpreted... I respect Marina's approach to experiences, very thought provoking with strong shock value.
It's A Joke. I can't understand how people like you function without understanding simple concepts like humor.
I remember this! I was 18 when she came to MoMA! I remember asking security how many hours does she do this in a day and he told me 10 hours! It was such a shock to me because I was still a young artist and to see her put all of her energy and soul into this inspired me so much...
WTF?????
I agree with you. If the people were never there to walk around would Marina still be an artist or just a person sitting motionless in a chair? There may be no true definition of what art is or who an artist is. Everyone has such different opinions. Sometimes we think too much about the art instead of enjoying the art itself. But what do you mean by the word "art" and "artist" are pretty meaningless?
good answer!
i write with googletraduction, no speaking english. i love marina, so I said that a woman who looks for a long time can also fall in love with her, and say bye bye to her husband.I hope google does not give me a dud.Hello from over the Atlantic Ocean!!
because it can understand that it is the deepest experience had ever and back home can understand not withstand a bad guy who wants a stew! ciao ciao da rome!
@thealchemist1111 I don't think that's what Abramovic is getting at here. She's making a statement about the STATIC nature of portraits (mostly photos but also realistic paintings). To look at a portrait of a woman sitting in chair for a few minutes is all well enough, but to state at her in person while she politely doesn't move is quite creepy. It kind of makes you wonder whether there should be a social more for looking at portraits.
When one person tells another person "this is art", it becomes art. There is good art and bad art. Every person is a critic. Every person is an artist. This has made the word "art" and "artist" pretty meaningless. The question, "is it art?" is like asking, "what does purple taste like to you?" This work could be called "the artists are present", Marina Abramovic and whomever she is sitting in front of. What do you guys think?
I think that such a woman becomes a lesbian
@stikitape214 Just to clarify: she would do this seven hours a day for ten weeks; however for four of those weeks; she sat for ten hours because the museum stayed open longer. During these hours she did not move, eat, drink, or use the bathroom. During the night, she would wake up every 45 minutes to hydrate.
Cabrones...
@MangaEngel Euhm, what is your problem?
it's so funny that just yesterday that I was watching this thing on James Franco for Esquire here on UA-cam and right afterwards I watched this interview with Lady Gaga who mentioned Marina Abramovic. Today I finally got around to checking her out, found this and realised this was the woman from the James Franco thing. Magnificent!
@MrMeatballs1945 like ?
@MangaEngel for real..it will be more intresting
@Yousafahmadi Probably that there is no purpose. And if someone dares to call it a piece of shit, some snobbish quasi-artist will tell that one has no right to judge and that it's subjective. Well subjective my ass. This is bullshit.
Can somebody load this film with english subs since it is nowhere to be found....really want to watch it and feel the limitation of not being in an island a limitation as to cinema....=)
What is the purpose of this piece??
