This brought back memories of me going to Tunica and The Grand Casino (Harrah’s) back in the late 90’s. Thanks for positing this. Makes me sad that it’s gone, but have lots of great memories.

why doesnt graceland put a walk way over the busy highway for safety.

Miss this place. Only true resort in Tunica. Had golf course; spa; multiple pools; shooting clays course; other amenities. It really sent Tunica downhill when it closed. Wish some entity had taken it over and maybe improved it. Best place by far to actually stay in Tunica.

I live in Memphis as well and I also got a ticket going through Cairo, IL. The construction zone that they ticketed both of us in has been a construction zone for at least 17 years. I used to drive this route a lot and have NEVER seen any construction going on. They put the "End Road Construction" sign about 3 miles past any orange barrels.

Just found out today Harrah's is shuttering the Grand in June 2014. Too bad because I have always thought it is one of the nicer Tunica properties. Biggest problem with the place is the unattached hotel is too far away from the casino and shuttle bus is a major pain in the butt. The so-called attached hotel to the casino really isn't either. A lot of thing were done very wrong when this property was designed and frequent visitors to Tunica like myself are easily turned off when it comes to certain inconveniences. The Horseshoe is dirty and I have always thought the machines were tight. At least you can actually win money at the Grand.

65 mph in Illinois, bullsh**! that would fly in 1987, but this is 2012! it's been the maximum and hasn't been raised in 25 years. Make it 70 mph. I actually drove 70 mph on I-55 north and south bound around Joliet. in a 65 zone. Cars have been made safer and roads have been made safer since my kindergarten days at Jane Addams Elementary Melrose Park, IL in 1987. 65 since April 1987. still is in Dec 2012 that's crap!

I was at Graceland in 1978. I was also at his birthplace then. When I was at Graceland, the house was not open to the public, there where no tours and across the street had a few small shops. We were allowed to walk to the graves of Elvis and his mother, take pictures and that's about it. His birthplace and grounds in '78 were the exact way it was when Elvis lived there.
