Aputure XT26 - BETTER shadows than Arri?!
Переглядів 4,6 тис.2 місяці тому
In this video I compare the new Aputure XT26's shadow quality to the current punchy lamps which Gaffer and Dops are using to on films and commercials. There's no question now about the output which LEDS are able to produce. But what kind of shadows do the lamps give when being used directly?

I take a look at the skypanel X and it's adapters: The light dome and the Hyperbeam. Enjoy
The new Arri Orbitor BEAM mount vs the Arri M18

Does the new Arri Orbitor BEAM MOUNT really give the same output of an Arri M18? I did a side by side test and gave the results here.
Benny - An Ornithologist.

Benjamin Knes is an ornithologists (a bird scientist), in this brief video we watch him set up nets for surveying and collecting data. He also describes various human caused conflicts birds are currently facing. Benny works and lives in Austria
Fresnel...freSnel!?!? No. Otherwise, great vid and thanks for sharing your findings :)
Muhricaa sux indeed. A gaffer told me that recently 😅 110 v BS
Just a note that the "s" in Fresnel is silent. It's pronounced fruh·nel.
Would love to see the Evoke 2400B on that mix as well
HMI has never quite felt like real sun to me; even 18k fresnels. They always feel like reflected sunlight, like off of a building window. HMIs have inconsistent color, and not quite a full spectrum. "Close enough" for most, but not quite. The best is a large tungsten fresnel; 5k,10k, and 20k frensels on a soundstage coming in through a set window. It really does look and feel like sun. The infrared heat they project is very similar to the sun, and it helps actors feel their light as they move through a set. I've never seen an LED that comes close; they just don't have the spectrum in the longer wave lengths where it really matters most for skin tones.
Agreed... Used the 20 k tungsten fresnel two months ago. It looked incredible. But wow the amount of electricity use is not sustainable at all. I'm wondering how long it will be before we can get this light quality with LEDs... I think it's close to be honest. Maybe 2 years?
@@davidographer 100 amps per leg in the grand scheme isn't that much. You're just running one 220v whip to the light, and on a soundstage, it's not much for the power system. Same for any 500A tow plant. As far as LEDs coming close...probably never. The cooling needed for a COB would be gigantic, and the optics needed to spot and flood a chip that big would be impractical. Mole has an LED 20k, but it is not the same. Comparable maybe, but not the same. Also, I think with large lamps like this the IR heat isn't always a negative. Many many actors have commented that they miss the warmth of tungsten. I'd say that alone is a good reason to use them still. If they can help talent give a better/more authentic performance, that's enough for me.
Great Video
Perfection ❤️☕

Awesome! Thank you for this.
Thanks Luke! I'm a big fan!
This is a completely UNFAIR comparison. You don't even need to turn the light on to know that an open-face lamp will not have a clean shadow. YOU SHOULD COMPARE WITH A 6K HMI FRESNEL. Par lamps are not meant to give you a clean shadow but punch. They are intended to be used far away (the shadow becomes much cleaner) or through fabrics as well as bounced.
Agreed. It was more of a spontaneous test. Loads of clients have asked me to go direct with some m series. Couldn't really find any videos out there to show what's they do direct so I just threw in the video.
Well to be fair, he also showed the Aputure light with its reflector dish. And that was also better than the reflector style Arri light. If you really care about shadow sharpness at higher output, the Dedolight 1200D HMI focusing head has shadow sharpness on par with a bare 60watt LED if not better.
Great practical tests, super useful!
Solid info. Video should be half this length, realistically even condensed to 60 seconds.
Yes this is the truth. I'll cut it down and make a short I think. I also will probably do a more interesting test next time
Fresnel is pronounced Frin - nel, after it's French inventor Augustin-Jean Fresnel
Great knowledge 😂 parley fransay?
I also just love that the french always invite all the silent letters they can to every word 😂
You butter? 🧈
its actually pronounced: "FUR-NEL"
how you like it vs the vortex8?
the t12 looks so much better
This is cool as hell. Thanks for all info David!
How much of that finger is still on there?
Forced perspective giant light lol
Hell, I just bought a 600d NON PRO as my first “Heavy Duty” light and I felt like the man. I bet you felt just as awesome opening this! I hope to eventually have lights like you!
I think the 600d is a work horse! You can do so much with it. Especially great for book lights 🔥🔥🔥
Goddang I am glad I found this channel! I can never afford this, but it’s nice living vicariously through you my friend! Subscribed!
Hahaha well I'll be using it on the regular so it makes sense!
Nice shit 🔥
Hey David. I’ll be dropping you a line when i start researching lighting a bit more for my channel. My needs are way smaller than what you’re showing here (it’s sick AF tho) but your input would be welcome.
Sure ding 😊
Am I correct in that the orbiter with the beam is falling off less drastically at distance than the m18? It seems like it was only 1 stop vs 3 stops less at 25m. 🤔
Hard to tell, but it looked like there was more ambient light around when taking the orbiter brightness measurement.
Whoop, whoop! Let's go 🤟
didnt understand a word, but had a laugh, love ittt!!
My mom says if this gets 1000 likes, she’ll buy me an orbiter! 🤩
🔥💡
Hi David! Are you in Vienna? I am documentary filmmaker and would be happy to meet. I like your style!
Great video, Benny seems like a nice guy! :)
