Last days in Tokyo
I had the best possible time on my first trip to Japan. It is the most inspiring place I have ever been to and I have not felt this excited in a long time. I am happy I rediscovered solo travel and keeping a daily drawing practice has never been easier. I can´t wait to do this again! I hope you enjoyed the Alone in Japan series and I hope it inspired you to go on an adventure or pick up a pencil and make a drawing or both :)
Thank you for watching and see you soon,

Lovely illustration is it done with watercolour or you did it digitally in Procreate?
Thanks, amazing inspiration
Thank you!
Random question, did you asked for permission to film in their shops? or did you just do it?
I did ask, the owners are super nice:)
Love this & all your paintings to document your trip. So happy you finally got to go! Also inspiring to go on a solo trip ♡♡♡
Thank you so much! Means a lot! 🌻
It's sad that you've left Japan. But don't worry, Japan will always be by your side.
So sweet 🥲 i am already scheming how to go back as soon as possible 🩷
danke

Hi I’m going to Berlin this September..where can i get Sonny angles in Berlin
Go to Folk Berlin store in Kreuzberg! I think its the only place that has them in Berlin and it is such a nice shop. They have Smiskis and Jellycats too:) Sonnies always tend to sell out fast, so they dont have them in stick at all times… have a gret trip!!
thank you❤️
Arigato ❤️
3:02 Dang. I wanted my toilet that will greet me like that, but all I got was water shooting at my bum and the seat is heated. No greetings.
Hehe this one was really special! But the seat heating is luxury and the water shooting also nice (once you get used to it). I wish i had one in Berlin!
Perfeito, obrigada!❤
Thank you for a beautiful vlog🌻
Thank you for watching!
Love looking at your illustrations!
Thank you so much! I will draw some more and make a zine:)
Hey, I noticed you threw away your omikuji because it had a "bad fortune." Actually, that's not the right way to handle it! In Japan, if you get a bad fortune, you're supposed to tie it to a designated tree or wire at the shrine. This is believed to leave the bad luck behind and let you move on with good luck. Throwing it in the trash is disrespectful and an act of desecration to the shrine's deities. Also, there should be signs in English nearby explaining this, so make sure to read them next time.
Oh no! Thanks for letting me know! I did not see the signs, but I have seen people tying the papers… gosh, I made some mistakes on this trip. I will know next time:)
Wonderful vlog series! If you ever go back you’ll have to try the food in the basement levels of department stores- you’ll be blown away by the variety of bentos and ready made food! But conbini food is fun too. Japan can be quite overwhelming for the variety of stuff everywhere! Have a good rest in Berlin!
Thank you so much! It is a bit overwhelming, I was there for 10 days only and felt a constant fomo! I hope I can go again soon and they the department store bentos :)
I loved watching your Japan Series and your idea with all the illustrations! Thanks for taking us with you and greetings from cologne :)
Thank you so much! Hello back from Berlin:)

Thanks so much!! Makes me so happy to hear this:)
The Fortune thingy omg 😭 glad you didn’t let it ruin your day ! It was nonsense anyway 😅
Haha that was mad!
Such a lovely vlog! And a cute ending 😍 hope you enjoyed your time in Japan. Looking forward to see your next video.
Thank you! It was the best🥲 🌻

Really nice! I m going to do it! Greetings from Perú 🇵🇪
Yay! Good luck and have fun! Hello from Berlin :)
i miss kyoto! hoping to go to japan again 😊
Me too 🥹
Have you tried japans luggage forwarding service? All the hotels have them and it makes traveling thru japan easier
I have not heard of this! But will look into it next time :) sounds like a helpful service. Thanks!
Tote bags are fun!
Can I ask you the author of the Kyoto guide that you show in the video? I can't read it :')
Hi! It is from Monocle Travel guide series on Kyoto. There is lots of fancy things and places that I dream of visiting one day, but also many great lower budget recommendations. I´ll get books from this series for every place I go to!
@@janapolak thank you! super kind 🤗
I also turn 30 in April and that birthday I was in Kyoto and checked the my favorite coffee shop so far might be that day
So nice! The best way to spend your birthday :)
I know our two kids (adults now) would love to visit Japan. They tell me everything there is so cute. They've both been into Anime since their teen years. Our daughter has been learning the Japanese language for years and has been able to write emails to Japanese online stores in grammatically correct sentences. They wrote back and said her writing was completely correct, which she was happy to read.
That is so impressive, they really need to go visit! And how amazing that your daughter has learned japanese without even being in the country! I really want to learn some day too, but german is already giving me so many problems :)
Love this vlog!!!😊
Thank you!
Fun fact: Daiso owns Standard Products!! I enjoyed going inside and I got a pair of gloves and hair brush 😂 the “unbranded” aesthetic got to me hahah
Ahh makes sense, there was a Daiso upstairs! Sebi loves the bag and Eddie the mat:)
@@janapolak niceeee
💖Lovely vlog😊
Thank you!
Lovely Vlog! Love seeing your hauls from Japan. Hope you had a wonderful time there. Can't wait to visit Japan myself 😍 greetings from Berlin
Thank you so much! There are too many nice things to buy in Japan:) I am sure you will love it there, I cant wait to go back! Greetings from Prenzlauer Berg
Ichizawa Hanpu is the shops name. I carry a smaller shoulder one.
So nice, I love all their bags!
Go to the Philosopher’s Path and walk to Nanzenji. I guarantee fewer people and more thinking time. Enjoy.
I was thinking of going there but did not have enough time in Kyoto. I’ll go next time I am there:) thank you!
If you’re watching early, sorry for the video quality! I uploaded before the HD processing was complete :) It should look better soon. Thanks for being here ❤
Thank you for coming to Japan with such innocent and open eyes. Domo.

Welcome to Japan.
Hello from Berlin! I wish I could go back:)
I wish Berlin was like Tokyo, or the Tokyo of Europe. But the complicated history has made the city the opposite. The word, the Greek/Hebrew word "Moloch", fits the city quite well. Many young people long for freedom, security and an environment in which they feel comfortable. Since Germany has changed so much socially in the last 10 years, they can no longer find all of this at home. Many, especially young women, leave Germany or visit Japan, South Korea or Australia for a longer period of time. This phenomenon did not exist in the past. In the past, Germany could still satisfy their longings and their idea of a happy life.
I completely understand this. I moved to Berlin from Slovenia almost 6 years ago and things are changing fast here. I feel at home here because of a big international community, but it is not a place anymore where you can get by easily being an artist or a creative. But that is not easy anywhere anymore I guess. Experiencing Japan was so calming, felt so safe and still so stimulating. My dream is to come for a year and experience living there short term.
I studied industrial design, but now I am an illustrator :)
I’m not proud of wasting the egg… I did not understand what it said on the packaging. Now i know! I guess every onsen egg ends up in the toilet at some point.
Sounds like you had a great time even with no plan. It’s exciting to explore new places and just find things as you go. I remember when I lived in Japan for a year for college, I got lost a lot! It’s super tiring - so much walking! No wonder every one is skinny over there (for the most part). But every day was an adventure! Thanks so much for posting! It was fun!
Wow how amazing that you got to be in Japan for a year! That’s my dream! And so much walking, I love it but after 10 days of 20 to 30 k steps I was finished:)
I did the same thing in 2014. Traveled all alone for 2 weeks. It was amazing. You just have to get used to having no one to talk to. Everyday was an adventure.
Amazing! I saw now how important it is to travel alone every so often. And having a camera to talk to and vlog helped me not feel super alone:)
@@janapolak Everyday in Japan was something new. I used the rail pass to the fullest. Only missed going to Hokkaido. It's a very long train trip , you have to stay overnight if you plan to go there.
Amazing travel observations, I watched with so much curiosity and the vlog was so fun!... I really love your artist perspective on things, it makes me want to romanticise my life more. I almost forgot - how's your new backpack? 🌚
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it! Being in Japan alone was the best for me, you see and absorb so much. I will try to keep this for my everyday in Berlin too. I recently found a channel on UA-cam that talks a lot about finding beauty in everyday and it has inspired me a lot. It’s called Heaven Sent Honey. I love listening to her talk while drawing.
Many foreigners critical of Japan point out the excessive use of plastic packaging in Japan. The seemingly excessive packaging is intended to maintain quality. In Japan, all materials, including plastic, are separated and collected according to strict disposal rules. These are enforced by local governments and will not be tolerated as long as one resides in Japan. This thorough recycling of resources has been practiced in Japan for hundreds of years, and is one of the reasons why resource-poor Japan has been able to build an advanced culture and economy while restricting exchange and trade with the outside world for hundreds of years. "Mottainai" spirit
Thank you for explaining this! I thought there must be a reason behind it. I admire how everything in Japan is preserved and taken extreme care of. In Europe people are super cautious about the use of plastic, we might not have plastic bottles in a few years. I’m curious to see how Japanese recycling works!
Wonderful travel vibe and how refreshing to see an artist's sensitive observations. Kyoto is both a treasure (over 2000 historic sites and places) and a modern working city of a million and a half people. It needs and deserves respectful guests like yourself.
Thank you! Kyoto is so beautiful, the old and the new! The over tourism is real though. It is sad to see big loud groups of tourists. Luckily it is still possible to avoid the crowds, some of my favourite temples were almost empty!
this was awesome to watch. I admire you for going to a foreign country in a foreign language and culture and just enjoying as it is. I also admire your hard work and dedication to your craft and creativity. It's greatly appreciated, I know it takes a lot to do these videos for us.
Thank you! I had the best time. Going alone made filming and drawing an important part of my day. I’m so happy I got to capture my time in Japan and share it with you!
Don't think about it as a 'failed lust for luxury' -- you're curious, and that's a great thing -- your curiosity got you all the way to Japan. I get so much second-hand joy just from seeing your face light up unwrapping dolls, toys and even food ☺
Hehe thanks! I like nice things and can’t help it! You’ll see what I got instead in the next video, a Kyoto-made canvas bag, even better:)
