You really have to do more research to understand what you are talking about and getting the information tight. For example, the resolution jump from SD to HD had nothing to do with the games, but with TV screens and monitors. PC monitors already supported resolutions higher than 720p since 1999. If you had the hardware, you could play any 3D game of the era in whatever resolution your monitor supported. The term HD and FullHD came with the release of 720p and 1080p TVs in order to help the public understand as we were all migrating from CRT tvs from the era which were maxed out in 480p.. technically, because CRT TVs didn't even dealt with pixels at all. I recommend the channel Digital Foundry for you to learn about this stuff.

@@pengosworld you could run either hl1 or hl2 in hd resulution, so saying hl1->hl2 is sd->hd is wrong.

@@pengosworld Mate, you have no idea what you're talking about. Resolutions in HD above 720p already existed in games on PC since late 90s. Way before Half-Life 1 came out. It became possible ever since 3D accelerated cards came out. By 1999, games on PC could be played at resolutions far above 720p.
