my squirrel moment for this week will probably be: "I get an urge to check the weather for this week, which makes me wanna check the weather in another random city around the world right now, lets say Aden, Yemen (big shocker, a city in the Middle Eastern desert it's sunny and hot every day, who would've thought). That then leads me to wanna google street view or watch a youtube video about the city of Aden, Yemen, in which I see a car passing by waving an interesting Yemeni flag but with a blue triangle on; it doesn't look exactly like the normal Yemeni flag. I then google that to find out that is the flag of South Yemen, and there is a current separatist movement in South Yemen. That then leads me on a quest to figure out what's the history of yemen and the yemen civil war. and 4 Wikipedia articles read through later, I now know about the Yemeni civil war in 1994, the current war, the Hawala money transfer system popular in the middle east and horn of Africa, ik that Remittances to Yemen make up 17.2% of its GDP, and the different social structures of Yemeni society, including the Akhdam/Muhamasheen, a socially stratified "untouchables" group." So now I know all about Yemen, a country and culture i have zero attachment to, but my project due in 2 days isn't any closer to being done lol. (this happened last week)
