You're correct that advance specialty restaurant reservations on Viking Ocean Cruises vary by stateroom category: Veranda (V) cabins: No advance reservations; bookings can be made upon boarding. Deluxe Veranda (DV) cabins: One advance reservation per specialty restaurant. Suites: Up to three advance reservations per specialty restaurant. Regarding laundry facilities, Viking provides complimentary self-service laundries equipped with detergent. Guests preferring fabric softener should bring their own supply. We appreciate your input and will update our content to reflect these details.

Nice! Good to know the drinks package is included with the penthouse suites. Be interested to know what the wet bar is like in a penthouse suite. It was pretty minimal in the explorer suite. No wine and only a few small spirit options plus a few beers. But, if you have the drinks package the mini bar is not needed because you can order any drink on room service!

@ I’ve was in a suite before. It’s like airplane bottles. About 6 or seven. And it’s refreshed everyday. Soft drinks are also included.

It is true that Australians do not pay extra for gratuities which is the main audience I am catering to and yes, they do pay a higher initial base fare than guests from other countries.

Agree! For most it would be sufficient. We had 2 phones, a tablet, laptop, powerbank, and Pocket3 camera with 2 batteries needing to be charged everyday so a USB hub was very handy!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Having a reasonable single supplement would definitely make it more accessible for solo travelers. Viking market their brand on the fact they have no casinos or kids so if you are looking for this on a cruise there are other better cruise lines to choose

It’s definitely an area they can improve on, but in saying that it probably isn't easy to have a free wifi service that can have over 1000 users (staff included) at any one time. Worked for us most of the time although a little slow but overall a better service than what some others provide even when you pay for the service.

On our last cruise a few months ago we could only make 2 pre-bookings in Manfredi's and Chef's Table and we were in an Explorer Suite.

Totally agree! Adults only and lower passenger count is worth the extra cost for a better experience.

Thaks for pointing that out. By 'spa'' I meant the facials and massages that cost extra. I should have made it clearer that the Spa pool and snow room are free!

Also, the gratuities you are paying are completely voluntary. Viking state quite clearly in their T&C's that all gratuities are included in the fare price even if you purchase the Silver Spirits package. We were not charged nor did we pay any extra for gratuities. You can give gratuities to the stweards or waiters at your own discretion or as you have done elect to pay an additional amount per day, but for any would be travellers reading these comments it is important to note that all gratuities are included in your fare price. Hope you enjoy your cruise and let us know what you think of it.

@@rob-travel You are incorrect. From Viking's T&C's: TIPS It is customary to give cruise gratuities, subject to your satisfaction of services rendered. Gratuities on board and on land are not included in your full fare.

@@oldman4552 It depends on what country you are from but I am not incorrect. It may be customary to give gratuities if you are from the US or Europe, but it is still optional. In other countries like Australia, providing gratuities is less customary and undoubtedly optional. My experience on the cruise showed that all Americans (and the cruise mainly was Americans) felt obligated to give gratuities to everyone they had contact with. Viking predominately caters to the US market, so they use wording in their T & Cs. There is nowhere in their T&Cs that they say that gratuities are extra to your fare price unless you add a daily gratuity benefit to your fare price or elect to do so directly with the staff you wish. In countries like China, Japan, and South Korea, tipping is not expected and, in some cases, frowned upon.

I think you are referring to videos taken with my phone which are in 9:16 format so when shown on youtube there is a still image to fill the 16:9 format they use for long videos

"Just an old boat..." It started sailing in 2015 so it's hardly ready for a 20 year refit. Oh, we've sailed on Star twice as well as nearly identical Sky and Mars.
