Nothing screams flawed taste in renovations than the ubiquitous NO versus populum picnic table lest we forget how wrong we were for over 1000 years. By the way the NO of Paul VI presupposes that the Mass is celebrated ad orientem. The rubrics of the period state that in new churches the altar should be so constructed that it is free standing but there was never any command to abandon the high altars already in place. Furthermore the fib we were told that the versus populum was the universal position of the early Church has through careful research been shown to be inaccurate to be kind. the fact that none of the Orthodox churches who are sticklers for tradition use the versus populum should have been a clue to the weakness of this belief. Removing the baroque candlesticks from the high altar destroys the fact that the architect wanted our eyesight to be drawn there. It now looks abandoned and bereft of real meaning and purpose. Your versus populum table has the same aesthetic ring as a bride in a lovely gown coming down the aisle in army boots. It rings false. It should find a home in one of the concrete Bauhaus to your house churches that when they are closed easily transition to skating rinks, gyms, condominiums or steakhouses.The rest of what you have done is lovely. I attend No church that has gone ad orientem. Finally I no longer feel that the Mass is like a late night talk show version of the evening news.

The habit is a witness. An unequivocal statement of faith. A silent evangelization. To preach without preaching. A walking billboard announcing the Truth of the Faith. The Muslims in their hijabs know that full well. These nuns don't get that it seems. These nuns discarded all that treasure, that tool of evangelization. For what? To look like the folks they're supposed to witness to and evangelize? To put it bluntly, they discarded the habit to look like a bunch of butch lesbians. Nice. To look more like Protestants and be more ecumenical perhaps? But goodness, Protestants don't look like a bunch of you know what either. They had the light and hid it under the bushel of the world.

Vatican II does not say that religious nuns should take off their religious garb. Praying that your community may return to wearing religious habits. Surely, you will flourish again and not look like social workers.

Another order that lost it's way.

It is so telling that Joan Chittister is brought onboard by the Ursulines in this video. She has said the following: "...To close ourselves off from the wisdom of the world around us in the name of God is a kind of spiritual arrogance.." "...The sin of religion is to pronounce every other religion empty and unknowing, deficient and unblessed. ..." Well it sounds like that to her, the Catholic church is the one needing to be evangelized. Chittister's stances on contraception and women's ordination contradict the official teachings of the Catholic Church. She was prohibited by Church authorities from attending the first Women's Ordination Worldwide conference on June 30, 2001. She not only attended, but gave the opening address. Chittister also rejected the Church's rulings against the 23 nuns who ran an advertisement in the New York Times attacking the Church's teaching on abortion. Don't try to find Roman Catholicism in this bunch.

St. Angela must be disappointed especially with Joan Chichester speaking about her (Ursulines) order. Doesn’t get much worse.

You can just see that Vatican II is the reason for the decline. I read a book by a former nun who said when Vatican II came in the whole point of religious life didn't make any sense anymore because the framework had been completely dismantled. They had always understood themselves as brides of Christ now they are a bunch of fuddy duddies.

Lack of wearing habits in all the orders has contributed to their decline. The habits solicit respect and allow recognition of who’s who. Vatican II and now Pope Francis have weakened the Catholic Church. It is very sad.

Ditto on Donna's post! The Nuns who taught me were from the Brooklyn NY Chapter. They branched out from there to my parish, St. Augustines in Providence RI. So influential were they in my life, that I say a prayer of thanks and call each of the 17 of them by name during morning prayer. God Bless all of the Sisters of St. Ursula, both living and deceased.

Vatican II undone the church

I will forever give praise and credit for raising, educating and directing my mind, body and soul to our God. I hope to be as dedicated to good works, love, and praise as my good nuns. They were a beacon, in an unhappy family life, inspiring me to reach and grow. I’m am 76 now so my nuns with halos were of the 1950’s and 60’s. Nuns are a gift from God. Thank you kind and gentle women.

Well, you had me right up until the Vatican II propaganda...no thanks, I'm out and unsubscribed.

Had they kept the habit and old ways, they would have lots of vocations. Traditional orders are booming. Also, why are you calling your founder by her first name? That's disrespectful!

Vatican 2 changed the focus from Jesus Christ to man and society. The religious (church change) lost THEIR way. The church is to serve God and society next. That is why the modern church is falling apart. Prayer sacrifice suffering and penance get back to your charism. Stop reinventing yourselves.

If they continue to follow the constitution of their order and also continue to wear their original habit, they regain hundreds of vocations. Misinterpretation of the Second Vatican Council is really a virus.

They were very fine educators. It was a very strict order but after Vatican II they threw the baby out with the bath water.

What happened after Vatican II? From that point in the video, the number of Sisters seems to dwindle to only a few. Vocations seems to have fallen off a cliff. Pray for the One True Catholic and Apostolic Faith. No more of the modernist attitude! Salve Maria!

My great-aunt was that ursulines in Peru for a while. She retired and I think passed away probably in the 1980s. Her name was Elizabeth Smith, sister Xavier

6:14 - Total self-giving. The habit reflects total self giving. Wanting to be unrecognizable as sisters/nuns shows a “hanging-on” to secular ways. If wearing ordinary street clothes is a way to attract young women, where are they? The orders that seem to be growing are those that wear the habit. But, go your own way. God bless you all!

Dear Sisters, why not reconsider returning to wearing your Religious garb or Habit

Ursuline Sisters taught me during my fourth and fifth grades at St Joseph’s Catholic Elementary School Avon Lake, OH. Thank you. So influential to me to joining Secular Franciscan Order and now teaching 6th 7th and 8th Grade Catholic Religion after retiring from 45 years in commercial business. Peace and joy thru Him!
