If you visit Crawford Notch State Park in New Hampshire, put Arethusa Falls on your list.
For just 3.6 miles and only 971 feet of elevation gain, I’d consider this a family friendly hike.

I attempted the Presidential Traverse in New Hampshire on the Appalachian Trail.
Переглядів 108Місяць тому
This was the most difficult section on the Appalachian Trail that I’ve ever hiked. I only averaged 1 mile per hour once I got to the Osgood Trail. I started at Pinkham Notch and hiked sobo, the intention was to do the traverse back to Crawford Notch.
One of the toughest backpacking loops in the Smokies.

What made this trip so tough was that I started on the Baxter Creek Trail which has one of the highest elevation gains per mile in the Smokies. I had gained over 4000 feet of elevation by the time I made it to the Mount Sterling fire tower in just 6 and a half miles. I had to modify my original plans because of getting a late start and not wanting to get to camp too late so it worked out well t...

Catawba Falls has been reopened after two years! (Old Fort,NC.)

I took the Ridge Trail to the top of Catawba Falls and went down the stairs on the River Trail to make a loop of 3.71 miles with 827 feet of elevation gain. I noticed remarkable trail improvements since my last visit in 2019, the stairs allow you to really take in every level of the waterfall much more safely. I commend the work of the trail engineers and would recommend this as a family friend...

Hey any recommendations for a minor sloped trail to do some trail running on in the area?
@@richf9608 The Mountains to Sea Trail from the Folk Art Center on the Parkway. Actually anywhere from 191 Brevard Rd to 70 is pretty easy without much of an incline compared to elsewhere.

Nice riding. Anyone tells you that they haven't laid their bike down on the trails is a damned liar. That's part of it. Planning a trip up there soon with my XT250..
@@capefear3297 You got that right man! Thanks and be safe out there.
Mica is cool. it used to be used for window glass back when only the wealthy could afford real glass.
@@luckyotter623 Good history.
Linville Gorge is just so unique and different from anything else in western NC. I love it. I must get back there soon.
@@luckyotter623 Yes it’s a marvel!
This is another one on my bucket list.
Is Deep Gap to over grown to set up camp? Or is it even a good spot to set up camp? Looking to do a hike up there in November, what is your favorite/best route to go. Starting point, camp spot, etc..
@@drewmaticgaming4822 Deep Gap is a very popular area for camping and by November it will be mostly clear of foliage so you shouldn’t have any problems. I have camped at Deep gap myself. You could start at Camp Daniel Boone or start at Black Balsam, they are both great routes.
@@doarelectronithank man I really appreciate it. How about water sources?
@@drewmaticgaming4822 Do you intend to do the whole Art Loeb? If so, it’s mostly a ridge walk so water sources can be few and far between with the exception of Butter Gap shelter in the southern end of the trail and then Dee Gap shelter just south of the Parkway, further north near Shining Rock then down the mountain there are several within a few miles of Camp Daniel Boone.
@@doarelectroni I plan to go from Black Balsam Knob Rd to Cold Mountain. (Camp in deep gap) Also was curious about the route my maps is showing. Instead of taking me through the Art Loeb it takes me around a majority from what it looks like.
@@drewmaticgaming4822 It’s probably taking you via the Ivestor Gap trail which runs parallel to the Art Loeb but it bypasses the mountain summits and takes you around them on the west, whereas the Art Loeb takes you over the summits but they both converge near Shining Rock.
You did a nice job explaining and videoing the beauty, the name of the falls and of course the suspension bridge, bravo for you on that bridge not sure if I could walk across. Thank you for sharing your adventure.

I bought an XT 250 last summer and on my first ride i broke my ankle because i was wearing boots like yours, i figured ill just go slow, ill be fine, been riding for 35 years, have fun, get some Boots!!
Cold Mountain is on my must-hike list. I hear the trail up from Daniel Boone is pretty steep though. Still, should be worth it. Awesome sunrise.
@@luckyotter623 It’s a great hike. Not real long but a lot of elevation gain but mostly on switchbacks until you get to the Cold Mountain trail at Deep Gap, then it’s straight up for another 1 mile.
@@doarelectroni Is it as bad as the Green Mountain trail (in middle prong wilderness)?
@@luckyotter623 No, nothing that hard.
This isn't one I'll be trying anytime soon - although I'm always curious about the more remote and wilder corners of the Blue Ridge mountains. Sucks about all the trash - that definitely ruins the feeling of being in the wilderness. Kind of cool that it's a loop, though. I wish there were more long circuits like this closer to where I live!
@@luckyotter623 It was kind of a disappointment for me anyway. After waiting years to go there only to find trash everywhere.
I did the Prezi’s last weekend in one day going S to N. Going down Osgood trail on trashed legs had to be one of the most miserable experiences of my life.

I want to go to the Devils steps. Do I need a reservation to park or is it open for general public?
@@denisehoshor5298 I’ve never been there so I can’t give advice on it. But you can usually find parking on 276, I don’t think it was more than a few dollars if I remember correctly. That hike was almost 2 years ago and was the last time I went down there.
@@doarelectroni thanks. Got a hold of them by phone. Don’t need reservation to park and hike. Just entry fee $3
Great video dude, sorry your ankles bothering you that would be a good hike to do with a bro to have you back

That looks like the Crest trail but on steroids! Looks like a fantastic area to explore though!
@@roselee_explores Yes, it puts the Crest Trail to shame in terms of difficulty. I suppose if you’re through hiking from Georgia to Maine then by the time you get here it wouldn’t be so bad but you still have to be careful because of the rocks.
Was an awesome trip bro, those views are well worth it. I can see how it would be hard cause rocks.

Nice video... Just curious any reason you starting in what seems to be 2nd or 3rd gear at 7:07 mark? Good way to burn that clutch.
@@roadie26 Probably didn’t even realize it, just slipped my mind if so.
I did the 10 mile loop yesterday from Black Balsam to Shining Rock and back down Ivestor Gap (counterclockwise). Incredible hike, definitely worth the effort. The views just wouldn't stop! I'd put this in my Top 3 favorite hikes of all time. Even better, I only saw 3 people on the entire loop and only one other person between Tennent and Shining Rock! That's kind of scary about the bears in your camp crashing around!
@@luckyotter623 Congratulations, that’s a good one! Sometimes you get lucky up there and have moments where no one else is there.
Love that trail going up to Mt. Sterling - especially that forest just under the summit with all the moss! Done it three times now and it kicks my butt everytime - but one of my favorites that I've done in the Smokies! Nice video :)
