Well done big man,How a survey should be done, nice to see not a drone in sight. Can’t beat experience and a roofers eye.
Love the way in Scotland you have Sarking boards so that GRP is fully supported on both faces 😊. I've got English GRP with just a piece of batten down each edge, so not safe to walk up the sides of the valley, as there is just roofing felt underneath the battens. Also not sure if they fixed the GRP edge batten to the tile batten ends, or it just rests on the ends. Tap the GRP and the mortar falls out 😂. Silly question: What would you see as the best solution for such an English lay board gable valley? (Without redoing the entire roof which is mid 1990's) From inside the roof you can see fresh air between the lay board and the bitumen felt 😂
Watched them all. Best one yet bud.
Love you’r branding Jamie, can I ask who designed your marketing material?
Hi Christopher, We've had a couple of companies involved with our marketing over the years. Full circle graphics and curries print centre are responsible for what you can see in the video and the branded workwear comes from Scope branding. I hope that helps. Thanks Jamie
Do you have to puncture the felt membrane to fix them?
if you can't explain it to a 6 year old you don't understand it yourself. a wise man said that and in this case it's true. Useless
this guy is not good at explaining what's happening. He seems to be saying they are using 'full size' slates (which actually means all sizes large to small) and they are doing diminishing courses. The only thing he hasn't mentioned is headlap and that's what's crucial
Hi do you have to leave a slate out for fixing them ???
I like this one
here no chance that’s one ae my pals dad it’s heavy crazy small world 🎉❤😂😂😢😮😅😊❤
wit nae way shun that's ma pals da man aha some boy 🎉🎉❤
Brilliant.. James your some man.. always believed in your self and standards where always priority when it was just me you one van and the tools.. amazing to see you doing well and hopefully it only grows and flows the way you want it to.
Looks like a sun tunnel to me
It’s a Velux skylight. Similar to the sun tunnels but doesn’t have a tunnel attached it’s designed to let light in to a non-habitual attic space.
I love your accent.
1:34 why do you add the extra nail inbetween the slates ? instead of putting two holes in?
It’s scotch slating practice. Every 3 courses of slates gets what’s called a cheek nail either side. I think it’s so there is some movement and ease of repair and maintenance later on. These roofs last over 100 years but I must admit they do seem to sometimes defy logic. It’s amazing to see and work with scotch slate!
Nice and neat
All the best Gary boy! ❤
Mill superstore nice video
Thanks 👍
Finally the most waited video is out 😊
That’s Jamie’s posh voice as well 😅
Subtitles were useful 😅
Brilliant! Top man Mark 💯
I remember you falling through the ceiling 😂😂, some funny times we had mark at c.c. We had some tough times at the the start of the business, but you stuck it out mate and its absolute brilliant what you have built 👏
How long does this offer last?
The offer finishes in August. Do you have a quote with us Kim ? Thanks, Jamie
End of August

More experienced slater but no soakers up the skews ? Not worth a sook without soakers
Can you explain in more detail please ? We have seen issues with soakers interacting with the lime mortar. The lime mortar is the most important part here as it’s keeping it wind and watertight. Once the lime mortar fails any wind driven rain is going in regardless of soakers ? Our preference is to use lead watergates with lead over the coping stones too as then no reliance on mortar but this specific property was to be kept traditional. We have done roofs where lead soakers have been used but there is arguments on both sides where roofing meets stonemasonry. Here is a link to the detail used fifehistoricbuildings.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Appendix-K-Mortar-Skew-Fillet-and-Key-with-specification.pdf
@@TaylorRoofs any water that tracks under the slates either wind driven or capillary will always make its way in that’s why soakers are used in each course, I’ve never had issues with soakers and lime mortar, yes if the mortar fails then the skew is defective but without soakers it’s defective from the get go
Why tail strike Spanish?
I would assume its because it’s in a tight area between a hip and a valley. So when marking out the gauge it’s harder to have it close to valley and hip. Once it’s out of that area and it’s the hip to hip section there is more space to get the marks on the roof and strike a line on felt.
Big Al, went to college with the big man still talking like he’s from Aberdeen but he’s from Stirling 😂😂
Loved this so much. Can't thank you enough guys for inviting me on 🥂
Really great guy. Well done Richard. I have watched a few episodes after this one.
You lot are proper slaters you don’t get these techniques down south I’ve only heard about them from my mate who worked in Germany.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Proper slaters don’t use claw hammers
Proper slaters only use slate axes and picks all holes and cut traditional methods always
Enjoyed this one.
Thanks Craig 👍🏻
Loved this one guys

I have had wet system converted to dry system, highly recommend Taylor Roofs. When they say 100% Customer Satisfaction is their aim I can personally attest to that. Great values, work ethic and high standards being taught from the top level down.
Great videos! Does anyone have a recommendation for the best underlay for slate? I'm struggling to find reviews as most membrane companies demonstrate using their product with battens (the English way) therefore allowing for an air gap between membrane and tile/slate, they seem to suggest this is important, so whats the recommended membrane designed to be sandwiched between sarking?

the whole concept of sarking is stupid just nailing through the membrane makes no sense
