    Pretty much all my story Main Characters are based mostly on myself. In addition, I tend to inject large portions of myself into any roleplay game (like Dungeons and Dragons, or Space Station 13). It's been intense, but in a good way. When I told my therapist about my writing, she was happy with me and said it was basically a form of therapy recommended by professionals: creating characters that exist to share your trauma and emotions and letting them work through it in a way that's a step removed from you. Sometimes, I put my story characters through that specifically so I can have another character tell them the things I wish people would tell me. (Each story series has a character modeled after my boyfriend, so he's usually the one to give that level of support. I've semi-jokingly told him "I'm training you on how to respond when I break down like this." ^_^;; ) "Princess Tells Her Story" is about a person from Earth who ended up on a magic world called Terra, and got turned into a dragon. She ends up the pet of another person from Earth who wound up there, and he starts learning magic. She started as "What if me, but never getting over my denial about being trans and such?" So she had to work through a lot of the stuff that I had internalized, not just at that age, but still carried with me. That feeling of "How can I ever be 'good enough' to 'deserve' happiness?" And as she works through them, she's got a true friend who cares for her deeply, and is willing to tell her as many times as she needs to hear it that she's good. "Exodimensional Hoofbun Flopsy" is about a rabbit/horse hybrid Living Construct built on Terra who gets stranded on Earth, and has to adjust quickly to life in a world of technology where everything is strange. And quickly ends up the resident cryptid/superhero when she decides to fight crime. She was created to be a new form of golem, and her creator got more than he bargained for. He treated her well, but she was still legally property. Since he was respectful, and quickly agreed that she can protest or ask for clarification and that he did not want her just mindlessly obedient, she didn't really have an issue with the arrangement. But arriving on Earth, she's told that she has to be an independent person now, despite having never been independent or a person. She started as "The personification of my hangup of 'I have to be USEFUL to be liked/tolerated/allowed to exist'." I never feel like I've done 'enough', I always worry I'm a 'burden' or I'm 'annoying' and people will be annoyed with me and hate me. So, I made Flopsy, who's desperate for orders because that way she knew what she was supposed to be doing. "Modern Major Yinglet" is a fan story based on the webcomic "Out of Placers" by Valsalia. A bit of wish-fulfillment (strangely, even more than the superhero and the dragon), it tries to really dig deep into "Okay, this is cool and all, but what if it REALLY happened? Let's dig into the good AND the bad, c'mon." The main character Vayryn is probably the most like me, and her relationship with Corwyn most closely matches mine with my boyfriend's. This one has a less clearly-defined "creation", it was just sort of "Basically me, with basically my health issues, gets 'cured' but with a massive downside, being a tiny gangly ratbird creature that everyone gawks at and is confused by." Only as time goes on, she slowly starts to realize that her issue isn't really with the form itself, just the external circumstances it creates. And those can be adapted... And then there's Space Station 13, an online game that's a mix of Dwarf Fortress and Among Us (sometimes). Tile-based sprites on a grid map. Create your character, pick your job, set up your skills, and welcome aboard. Try to make it through the work shift while doing what needs to be done to keep everyone from breathing vacuum, or at least yourself breathing at all. Sometimes you only have to contend with the random events the game throws at the station as a whole. Sometimes it's an Antagonist Round where a player at random is picked to be the Antag, given access to skills/perks/equipment/abilities they wouldn't normally have, and given a goal they need to complete while the rest of the crew is supposed to stop them. Different servers have different amounts of RP/character-driven play, and the one I usually play on is a bit on the high side. So, I play someone who is essentially me, but cranked up to 12 (or 13?) for a mix of drama and comedy. She was born a trans girl, faced rejection and hate her whole life, managed to get access to tech that changed her entire body, tried and failed to blend in on a space station in her new life. While being a neurotic mess who feels like anything she can do is nothing special, and anything she CAN'T do makes her an irredeemable failure to be hated by all, thanks to a childhood with an abusive father who demanded perfection as the bare minimum, and punished anything less. Who also freaks out over being "fake" because she's spent so long wanting this body that she can't comprehend actually being HAPPY. It's... rough. I've literally spent multiple sessions just crying the whole time while typing. ^_^;; But it's also incredibly cathartic and a lot of fun. (Even when stuff gets wild, like her current storyline of her future self showing up on the station to alter the timeline, her alt-timeline self showing up, all three getting migraine-inducing deja-vu visions of each others' memories/skills, and a new map set in a medieval era where the wandering scholar has "dreams of a place where the hallways are made of metal, entire walls of glass, and room-filling machines that I know while I'm dreaming, but forget when I wake up". Only for her future-version's grown-up nephew (not by blood, she just helps raise a friend's kids, who are only a few months old in the "present") to show up back in the medieval era and get flustered at the meeting when he's SUPPOSED to be grabbing futuristic artefacts to "decontaminate" this timeline, and for her to use the Dark Forbidden Power of the Mom Voice to pull his full name from her visions by imagining herself scolding him and letting the words flow by habit.)

    During my first watch of the Series I was questioning again and again why I dislike Max so much - and then someone pointed out that Max's entire character is based around what it means to be a man. His character is based around deficit. His strive to be "a man" the feeling of lacking in safety and masculinity. I went like "YES!" that's it. He is looking for his masculinity and he is screwing up because he has no idea what that looks like. He struggels with authenticity. He struggles with who he wants to be so much. And he lies to put himself in a better place - according to what he precieves that to be. He wants to be a protector so bad, he wants to be a hero and he wants Lucy to look at him because he wants that masculine role. But he suuuuucks at it. He has a lot to learn. I really think he will have to tap into the villian era of his life and the temptation of power. And then hopefully come out of it as a grown ass man - with a "beard" so to say. Like that is the only way I can see Max even come close to Cooper/the Ghoul. Until he is there no way. Noooo way. Also if he does grow a beard in Season 2 I'm never going to stop laughing. I'm calling it.

    A scene I really want to see that can be very bold but still tongue and cheek with the romance potential by having Cooper and Lucy having to actually act together. It could be a very good chemistry building dynamic that expands on Cooper's character to Lucy, and it would make sense in New Vegas and Hollywood, the place of entertainment. And they can play some VERY COOL parallels of what could happen in the main story with the play parodying the themes. Plus LUCY AND COOPER IN AN COSTUME CHANGE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

    A neutral character is not an antihero. An antihero defies moral norms in the pursuit of good.

    • @theplotgenie
      @theplotgenie 4 місяці тому

      I agree an antihero isn't neutral, but I don't think antiheroes always pursue good. Look at Beetlejuice -- he's doing the right thing -- helping the Maitlands, then saving them -- for the wrong reasons -- freedom from the Netherworld.

    This episode was, as always, *chef's kiss* it's the highlight of my week! I think it was definitely Barb behind not allowing dogs in the vaults. I mean, the look on her face!! That's so sad if she really did that, because she knew how much Cooper loved and still loves Roosevelt. He still thinks of him even after 200 years! • @theplotgenie

      At the end of the day, Season 2 Daemon doesn't match up with Season 1 Daemon, regardless of shipping. In order to produce a lasting story, your characters have to make sense. This season has been punishing Daemon's character, essentially sending him to time out to think about what he did, contrasting with who the writers built him up to be. Regardless of personal preference (which is totally fine), the story suffers because of it, even if we remove the shipping (which, in my opinion, hasn't changed. People will still ship them, even if the writers ruin his character). And since this video uses Daemon's character as an example of what NOT to do in a dark romance, this is why I've utilized romantic tropes to highlight the ruination of his character, though there are plenty of non-shippers who agree that his storyline is tired and doesn't make sense.

  • @endrikoliveira4731
    @endrikoliveira4731 5 місяців тому

    Hahaha this is so funny to listen from a male perspectiive. Like youre so personal about this and it gives so much insight on women psychology when it comes to romance ( like the audacity ). Either way, thanks for the video you explained this in a very detailed and easy to understand manner and ive been seeing all women react in the same disappointed way when it comes to Daemon. I still feel that other women have a place on dark romance, as long as the special one is clearly defined and other women are like Whres to him. I have had my turns messing with girls minds and this just gave me an idea. Ive been working on the idea of symbols for a long time and double meanings, and ive seen that fiction and reality merge.
