Why I Still Buy Physical Media in a Digital Age
Переглядів 38 тис.4 місяці тому
With the convenience of digital and streaming, is there a reason to keep those old DVDs around or even buy the newest movie on Blu-ray? This video explains, in my humble opinion, why I prefer physical media over digital and streaming services Special thanks to VideoCat (www.videocat.ca/) and Videomatica (videomatica.com/) for having me film in their amazing establishments! Shoutout to HDTVTest ...
Rewatch Movies When You're Depressed
Переглядів 2,5 тис.Рік тому
I get depressed a lot of the time, and I'm sure some of you do too. My favourite anti depressant is to rewatch movies. I created this video in the hopes of guiding others to this specific kind of comfort that helps me at my worst points. Let me know what you thought of my first film essay! Link to my list of movies that cures my depression: letterboxd.com/fartoofast/list/movies-i-rewatch-to-cur...
One Film a Year Since the Beginning: The 1920's

Been a bit since I last uploaded, whoops. Continuing the One Film a Year Since the Beginning series with my favourite films from the 1920's! Keep in mind that the films I'm recommending in this video are purely my opinion and not absolute fact that you must see these films. If you think there are films I am missing out on in this video, feel free to recommend more in the comments!

Physical is the way. It's a better way to connect with art. I'm so happy I rediscovered they joy of actually owning media again.
I have to agree with all you say on Physical media, nothing beats holding it in your hands and you also dont have to worry about the streaming giants taking it off. I also live in Canada and even though some members of my family think I'm crazy, I still buy physical media for the reasons I stated plus there is a lot of content in my library that isn't available on any streamer. (eg: Barney Miller, Becker, Columbo)
I do physmedia.
Sick essay bro 10/10
Melies was an absolute master and innovator
Phenomenal work!
I feel the streaming argument would’ve been better back in 2018/2019. But now, streaming fucking sucks, I genuinely believe that at the tail end of this decade we will see the streaming model collapse. Physical media will always be better
Neat video😙 It was so cool to learn more about Chaplin and his history
I hate that streaming services refuse to sell you new series/movies. You have to get it from fn China, because if they do have it in the us its like 30 bucks.
Underated man
8:51 Literally found two out of the three of these specific editions of the Lord of the Rings movies at Savers for $2.99 a couple of days ago in just about perfect edition with all of their discs still in their cases, a very lucky thrift find that I'm glad that I came across and purchased.
That was beautiful
Really like your film essays. Keep it up!
Streaming will usually have only the latest version of a movie, which means it could be either cut or graded differently to older physical releases, this is my prime reason for sticking with my discs they can't mess around with those.
12:21 my jaw dropped when I realized the blurays got removed at best buy. I have to go to walmart to even get blurays now.
Streaming sucks, seriously dum using a Internet connection. Physical disc buy once watch forever. Simple really
Once you own a property or rent long term, you need something to decorate it. A wall of books can easily becone a wall of blurays or just a select few from your collection. You probably want to concentrate on accumulating wealth before the AI takes over though. Easy to get carried away collecting which feeds your brain when switching to a money making side hustle and investing in your skillset and future earning potential will also be fun, feed your brain and is probably a better strategy. Leave the accunulation if things until you are older and lazier and wealthier.
Looks better, sounds better. That's all the justification you need.
I'm your 598th sub
I don’t give up on owning physical media.
Are you telling me the Canadian Expressionist was actually Canadian the whole time? What a twist!
Yeah, I'm never giving up my physical media. I'm proud of my collection. Digital and streaming could never capture the anticipation i feel when holding a physical copy of something in my hands.
Well I think you are a genius. Another good reason for me is when I am old and a bit doddery I'll enjoy rewatching all of my favourite movies. Streaming services may change often as years pass and you may no longer be able to watch what you once could. Technology changes rapidily and sometimes we are forced to accept that. Yet if you look after your dvd's there is no need to be frightened by changes in internet streaming/viewing. Lastly who trusts the big tech giants - I don't!
We need physical copies. Corproations can do whatever the hell they want to do. That's what most people just don't understand.
Idk how a digital version cost the same price as a physical is a pro, unless I actually own it, it’s practically a scam
Netflix exclusives tend to be on a 7 year contract. Occasionally, Netflix buys the occasional movie, so that it will never be found anywhere else.
Am jumping back on the wagon! Was watching Harry potter with my family and the internet crapped out, luckily we had the dvd collection, so i dusted off the ol ps3 and we got a seamless experience, not even HD, but it still looked better than hbo.
Watching a movie on a phone is way worse than piracy. You simply neglect any work that was done to the film, it's like trying to watch a new movie on a 60's TV. I grew up on piracy because at the time, in my country this was pretty much an only option (except for bootlegs). Now as an adult, I collect movies, I collect video games and music and ditched all streaming.
On a phone yes. On a 13 inch tablet? It’s like holding a TV in my hands
I still buy digital media. CDs, movies and games. The problem is that movies are getting way too expensive. There’s movies that cost $50-$60 from boutique online retailers. As much as I like physical media I think I’m ready for a 100% digital age. I for sure won’t buy movies because what’s the point, I would just watch whatever stream services offer. Nowadays theater movies come to these services pretty fast anyways.
My mom doesnt really care if we go dystopian or not. I had a physical copy of Journey to The Center of The Earth and loaded it up through console on disc. There were still commercials and they were pretty long but getting to the title screen made it all worth it...not for her tho. I was smiling and enjoying the blast from the past but she just got irritated and was saying, "just play it already! If it were amazon i could just press a button and get it instantly." Which really hurt my soul. I said, "you dont care about how cool this is? I can keep it forever and i get this fun title menu". She said she didnt care and i said she was soul less. She got confused and i shook my head and played the movie. Then toward the end her boyfriend came over, critized the movie, and said Journey 2 was better. Way to ruin the fun...both of you...
Yeah the vast majority of people have become so used to instant playback amongst 100,000 titles that they have no appreciation for the nostalgia of physical media especially if they have to wait 60 seconds before they can play the movie lol oh the horror!
I have tons of movies on physical media. Pirated movies, on external hard drives. I do plan to put them on DVDrw soon. I like the feeling of putting a DVD in the tray. But I'm not giving the Hollywood kid touchers any money lol.
I do too! Why pay for a monthly fee when you can just buy the movie on DVD and be done with it?
cool
If you buy something you buy it. Im not buying streaming movies, I want them forever.
Vinyl is a better experience than streaming.
Absolutely!

Tbh, the only physical media I have are PS4/PS5 games
That's your problem.
@@thiscorrosion3843 It’s not my problem. I can’t do nothing about this
@@thiscorrosion3843 ok?
I own the physical copies and then rip them onto a NAS running a Plex server, which helps with the convenience.
Great vidro I love my dvd and blue ray movies. Ive got some old ones that are still doing fine. Thats the way to go with movies. Just dont take them for granted.
As a fellow Vancouverite, I was sad when Black Dog video closed down.
I feel that more directors and musicians need to hammer home on how important physical media ownership is. If Nolan expressing that exact thing was able get his movie to sell out like hot cakes when it came out on physical, then I'm sure more directors and musicians can do the same and then maybe it'll get more people to jump back on the physical media train.
Streaming sucks!! Physical media is king 👍
This isn’t any digital age! Physical media rules supreme.
wait, the canadian expressionist is a canadian person, hey?
I've also gone as far as purchasing older VHS tapes to eventually rip them for my own collection, a lot of older titles are hard to find anymore online. You either have to buy it, or risk getting some internet aids trying to find it yourself.
I'm a bit of a data hoarder, however -- I've had to personally buy physical copies of items I couldnt find online, be it a movie, foreign short or whatever else...and strangely enough, both related to Matt Smith in some fashion. Some shit just...Isn't. online. And it's our job to preserve it.
I only do physical media only and I don’t trust digital
Physical Media always rules today.
