how much km did you do?

Is it an upgrade, downgrade or much of the same? What do you think?

On paper my Altra Olympus 5 Hike Low GTX shouldn't feel as good as the Altra Olympus 6 Trail, but they do. I tried out Altra Olympus 6 and they feel horrible.

Altra is almost there but still not there yet with the Timp...they need a better upper and to widen the toebox just a tiny bit...and maybe add more height to it again, just a tiny bit. And of course, make better colors 😂

It was actually a PR but for some reason the app only got 2 runs on this route, I had the impression I had done a lot more that 2 runs...but those might have been either a bit less or a bit more on the same route...

Conclusion: for ME Timp is the best all terrain, all season, all weather, any distance running shoe, period and yes it still has flaws , but in spite of those, no other Altra model beats it.

Here are some more updates: pretty much most other people's findings about the issues these shoes have were true: too low and too narrow toebox, the sides are too tall pressing against the ankle, the upper is too warm in hot weather, and here's one I found and actually noticed from even before getting them, the heel cup is too tall and not ergonomically shaped...can't really complain about the sole or the midfoot. ..have not had the chance to test the grip but it should be fine. ..and the durability of the upper is yet to be seen...

Breaking NEWS: in spite of all the negative reviews out there I decided to give it a try: just ordered myself a pair of TIMP 5. The colors are horrible, so I went with the yellow - blue ish ones, I hate blue, but it is what it is. The unboxing and first review coming soon...still injured as fk, can barely walk...3 days without running, a nightmare, we'll see, maybe I'll run a bit tomorrow...

You can get even more fkd, as I got...can still barely walk, and some people may say stuff like "you'll never walk or run again ", guess what, Imma gonna come back stronger and faster than ever. Decided to take a couple of days of recovery, and am still walking, with a lot of pain in both feet, not being able to run is much more painful than the pain itself, but I'll come back stronger and faster than ever, biatches. Stay fking hard !

Being overweight now has influenced my experience with the Mont Blanc Carbon, I thought they were slow, but when I got back to the regular Mont Blancs I.was even slower, so yeah, they help you run faster, maybe the fit is not the greatest and the toe box is not wide enough, as well as the midfoot, a better upper would help, meaning better for the rain, and that's pretty much it...but yeah, there is some advantage running in them compared to the regular MB. And yes, the grip is just fine, the rubber is thicker and will most likely last longer. Cheers!

I would also like to mention I noticed a slight upsizing in Altra shoes starting with the Lone Peak 7, something like half a centimeter in the same size 11 US I used, same thing here in the Mont Blanc Carbon...for longer runs it may be OK, but still, they are not consistent with sizing. ..and since I don't have a physical store to try them on...can't be returning stuff in the post, anyways, just beware of that. And this annoying smell that doesn't go away from the MBC, maybe after the first rain...hopefully

They have an unpleasant STRONG chemical odor, I wore them at work today and people noticed it...I never had this issue with any Altra shoe, don't know if it's related to the carbon plate or what. ..anyways, I immediately broke a PR on 500 m on my way to work and that was in regular clothes, pants and carrying a backpack, so that was pretty impressive, it looks like high tech shoes equals CHEATING. ..anyways if most people use them then yeah, why not. Will have to do more runs to be more conclusive but they already impressed me.

Reliable imo doesn’t do the MB justice. I’ve 1100km on my first pair and they still have plenty life. Foam still bouncy. Upper beginning to split but outsole still has grip and tread. Load up on old stock before they ruin em 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😸🦄👍

Having seen a few Timp 5 reviews, my suspicions have already been confirmed, the upper is garbage and they seem to have even more issues than the Timp 4...namely the rubber toe protection peeling off and the heel cup rubbing against the achilles, and some width issues, so beware.

Managed to get a PR on this route in the end, by 14 seconds, still a PR, and tired and injured, so stay hard and keep training !

Altra Mont Blanc 2 aka Carbon is already out there for sale ! And, as I predicted, it's already at a lower price, 220 euros for now, will wait for its price to drop even more and most likely skip the Timp 5 and get it instead.

Made of two separats runs, one in the snow, not so icy, and another on mostly icy roads and sidewalks, where I fell flat on my back, got up and continued to run 9 more km. A special thanks to God and my guardian angels. I do not advise anyone to run on icy roads esoecially downhills, and some uphills, and near traffic, it's very dangerous. Anyways, stay hard !

My used Mont Blancs are one year old but have only about 350 kms of use in running, since I alternated with other running shoes, now I have to say that more than 90% of their use was on road.

Just ordered myself a pair or the older ( technically still current since the new have not been officially released yet ) Mont Blanc , I simply do not trust the upper in the Timp 5, and won't waste any more money on the Timp 4 for a one to three months pleasure. As the saying goes "fool me once, and fool me twice, it's your fault, but the third time would be my fault ", so no third time here.

Needless to say I am still injured but pushing it, don't want to push it too much, though. And, regarding the shoes, maybe I should flip a coin...lol

Hi! I've already ordered two pairs of Timps 4, so I love them so much. However, I faced the same early wear issue on my first pair. And it happened because of rubbing little branches when running. Something that, of course, a trail running shoe must withstand. Thus, when I go running in my second pair I try to avoid rubbing twigs and such... But, despite being in love with the rest of the shoe characteristics, I'll take your advice when ordering a new pair. I'll opt for Montblanc instead of Timp 5. Do you know if Montblanc fits true to size? Or in comparisson with Timp 4 I should go half size up? (Sorry for my english...) 😅

Update: I have just CANCELLED my Timp 5 order, got pissed because the place where I ordered them from, runnerinn.com, delayed the delivery indefinitely, so nope, besides that, I DO NOT TRUST the Timp 5 upper, it looks VERY SIMILAR to the one in the Timp 4, which was an ABSOLUTE FAILURE, so nope, I'll rather get myself another pair of good old Mont Blancs, 100% tested to last at least ONE YEAR, as opposed to ONE MONTH with the Timp 4, the Timp 5, except the Vibram and the cool looking rubber pattern, will probably be another BIG FAIL. And then, will rather wait for the new Mont Blanc Carbon price to drop to 150 euros, then I'll get a pair of those instead of the Timp 5 and will wait for the Timp 6 which hopefully will finally get a better upper. My advise : don't throw your money to the garbage on the Timp 5

Also, pretty important, forgot to mention it, the Lone Peak 7 run half a size bigger, meaning they are longer, and yes, I measured the insoles with the ones from the Timp 4, definitely longer...about 4 mm
