Is there any better exemplar of the word "SUBLIME" than the top C of the modern Miserere! Christophers' 2020 may have the edge on acoustics , but WOW ... thank you for assembling these master works. I have to seriously question the musicologists assertions that WS Rockstroke, added the top C to a copy of the Miserere by mistake. I believe (completely without musicological proof) that the top C is a covert insertion into the sacred work of a divine femininity, la petite mort.
ANDREA HAINES - VOCES 8 !!
Nice. Sabrina Carpenter?
Not every of them were hitting Top C since some of the orchestras were using 415 Hz due to the Baroque reason. So it should be around B comparing to 440 Hz. Though they all sing beautifully.
Poulenc et Victoria tam longinqua tempore, tam prope pietate in suis motetis O Magnum Mysterium.
5:26 te soprano sings a A_D !!😮
Gonna be honest kids sounds the best
This makes me happy to be a tenor
This makes me devastated to be an alto, save me
Wait im a tenor whats the twnor line
@KoryDoesWeirdShit basically the entire thing, but mostly referring to the "Oh how happy are their tones" and the "on on they send" parts
My choir has to sing this at our concert this December i am in the bass line the clsss really likes the bass very low Dong after the "ding ding"
SMM?😂😂
We sing carol of the bells every year! It's lovely and a fun tradition, so fun that I have the song memorized by heart lol
Thank you for this bless you
Alta cultura europea para mayor gloria de Dios
what i would do to be part of that sound. <3 I am in a highschool choir currently, with a fantastic director, and she is having us perform Morten Lauridsen's Dirat-don and another piece, Victoria's O Magnum Mysterium. And this video is a perfect mixture of those two songs in so many different ways. I would give so much to sing this piece. Praise the Lord for choral music. There is truly, truly nothing as genuine and lovely as worshipful choir music.
Sound quality of this compilation is far worse than in particular videos here on yt
The marian consort does the whole song better, she just has so much more oomf and horsepower in her voice compared to the others.
2:35
Muse brought me here, this is beautiful!
All are heavenly, superb sounds and vocals, the last 2 are very smooth but might just be better sound quality, i listen every now and again, I don't even sing.
I just found this guy, I'm going to go through all of his work
in my opinion he wrotes the best synphonies. i love the 6th and 8th synphony
they are all singers of God🙏🙏Je vous Bénis de toute mon Amour et de toute ma Lumière❤☀
All fantastic singers, if I am forced to pick one I'd say Josephine. I always start tearing up when she hits that note.
My favourite is VOCES8
Josephine, sin duda. Además es la que mejor vocaliza
Hmm. I know what I _don't_ like: scoops, vibrato, and going too wide or percussive, which makes it sounds like a scream. I think I like the Oxford boys best. Not the most technically perfect, but with a vulnerability that fits the piece.
All great! No question!
#1 but man, everyone of thier voices are gifts
4:30, 5:47 6:47
Josephine Stevenson, mi trasmette vibrazioni indicibili.
9:50
8:14
I have listened to three Lauridsen works to keep my sanity on this very stressful election night 2024! Thanks so much!!!
Stephen Cleobury, Kings College chapel choir 1987
The original song is "Miserere" and its really cool. It sounds the same even without the balloon.
Such a beautiful piece of music, one of my favorites. I can hardly listen to it with dry eyes...
Lindíssimo ❤
This is so good bc our class can read it clear❤❤
My choir group too ❤
7:09 Choir of New College, Oxford - Edward HIgginbottom
Nice. However i do feel to slow for an alla breve.
Chills.
Byrd Ensemble!
Just to give one more version: ua-cam.com/video/cLtm0DqNPHM/v-deo.html
I don't know which recording I would find the best in a blind listening test, but the Tenebrae Choir performance stands out for me among the videos. Josephine Stephenson's face and voice exude such a special atmosphere that the listener begins to cry. I listen to it once every season and enjoy it.
Tenebrae and Ars Nova Copenhagen. The first and the second.
Best one according to me: ua-cam.com/video/zxJ3bMmWBmo/v-deo.htmlsi=r5KgnhuCYPTUaYS9
The 'Miserere' sung by the Tenebra Choir (Joséphine Stephenson) is a masterpiece ! I would even say that it borders on perfection.
Wheres Voces8 Andrea by a country mile
There are identifiable, objective criteria: the legato should be present - there shouldn't be any break or jump in the attack on the top B or C, it should be smooth; there shouldn't be any vibrato or shake at the end of the note; the intonation should be perfectly sustained throughout and finally the sound should be round and fluty, not thin and screamy. Most of these are really good but there is a hierarchy if those criteria are applied, no? Surprisingly, the earlier Tallis one is poor. Often, the boy trebles are best, I think, especially the boy treble in New College for Edward Higginbottom. "Letterbox mouths" from women sopranos on the change to the top note are often indicative of the wrong adjustment and the resultant sound is thin. I think the Byrd Ensemble has one of the best women sopranos. The girl soprano of Clare College Choir and the lady in the Marian Consort are great, too.
This analysis by Ralphoperaphile is sound and should be taken seriously. King's College Cambridge 1963 with the divine treble, Roy Goodman, is the most perfect performance of all time. Adult professional choirs will never beat that performance.
@@desmondjack6162 Thank you. I should have remarked that not every performance here is in the same key - and indeed it is dubious whether Allegri intended there to be a top C - but we do love to hear it!
I really love the one of the family singing at 2:48, that girl's C note is exquisite
Byrd ensemble and Tenebrae
where is Voces8 version?? amazing
the interesting thing is Allegri didn't even write this 'top c', there were mistakes in copying 2 times where it was written a 4th higher, then another 4th higher on the 2nd copying
