This is a video of the Atthis a 3D-printed EDF-Jet I have designed. This project has kept me busy for days, weeks and months and I am happy to finally be able to present it to you today. I hope you like the result as much as I do. I would really appreciate your support to make more great projects come true. Very big rc plane bro..good job
Thank you very much!
Hi. I don't have a 3D printer but do have friends with 3D printers and I could ask them to help me if this plane could work for my needs. I'm interested to know more about this plane. Does it use a 2200mah battery? What motor is needed to get good punch out of hovers? With lw pla are the planes able to handle very high G maneuvers? The reason for my questions is I normally buy foam planes to practice my XA 3D flying. I live in Africa so planes and parts are not always easy to come by. I have considered maybe designing and building my own foam planes but this may also be an option? Do you think this plane would handle XA (Extreme Aerobatics manuevers) like high speed walls, blenders, crankshaft etc? Thanks for your help 😊
Hi, yes this plane uses a 4S 2200mAh battery and a 2820 Motor with a 50A ESC. The recommended Setup is pretty common and even If you can't find the specific components, you can use any similar sized. During the beta test, the plane withstood everything we threw at it including crankshafts etc. High G maneuvers are no problem.
@@3dblackbox thank you so much for your reply, that was very helpful 😁👍🏼
@@3dblackboxjust one last question if you don't mind as I don't know too much about the capabilites of 3D printers or how complex this would be to do. Is it possible to make a fractionally smaller version by scaling it down in the software? My 2200mah are 3S and realistically would be better around 1000g to 1100g to get the power to weight ratio with 3S. Thanks for any advice
@@jasonbarker2761 You're Welcome 😊The main problem with up- or downscaling is, that the electronics and carbon tubes/spars won't fit anymore. Therefore significant modifications would be necessary. 3S does work too, but it won't be enough for hard 3D. If you are on a budget, I recommend CNHL batteries. They are a great bang for the buck.
I’ve printed probably 85% of this plane but realized that the parts are hard/expensive to obtain here in the U.S.A 😅
@@trever017 You can replace the parts with anything available, that is similar sized. There is a Motor mount on cults3D for a different screw layout. A T-Motor 2820 or similar would work too as well as most Mini-Servos.
@@3dblackboxwhat is 8mm hole for at 2:17? A 8mm carbon rod? If so what length?
Nvm I found it on cult 3D page 😅
Good evening. First of all, thank you very much for this publication; the work you have done is incredible, and I appreciate all the available information. I want to make some slight adaptations for a glow combustion engine and wanted to know if it is reasonable to use it with an OS 25 Max or if the model is too large. I'm asking because I'm comparing information and it's not entirely clear to me if the model is too large for that engine. I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you very much from Argentina!
Thank you very much! I advise against using gas engines on 3D-printed planes due to the vibrations they produce. The materials we use can't withstand those vibrations or the engine fumes. Additionally, this plane would require an engine between 6-8ccm. So I highly recommend to use an electric motor. Best wishes from Germany =)
@@3dblackbox Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to me. It is very useful to know the estimated size of the equivalent glow engine. I understand the inconveniences you mentioned. Nonetheless, I am interested in the experiment; perhaps I can isolate the vibration somehow. I will let you know how it went. Thank you very, very much for all the information provided. Regards!
I've been waiting for this. V1 is a sweet plane
I just saw your printed V1. Looks great, I'm glad you like it!
@@3dblackbox I love it, I have one printed right now. when will V2 be released? I've found a way to make the LW pla stronger and is able to withstand the sun without messing up the plane.
@@TopFormMediaI'm glad to hear that! I can't estimate the release date yet, because my website is still in the making and coding is out of my hands, but I'll keep you updated 😊
@@3dblackbox would appreciate that
Whats new? I crashed my V1 was my first plane i loved it!
I just saw the short wow it looks way more beginner friendly for assembly and better servo positions, and wing mounts very nice! I cant wait to build this new one😁
@@Ace-dh5lz Thanks, I'm glad you like the first one! Basically everything has changed: appearance, performance and usability. It's compatible with all slicers, printed in clean vase mode and has tons of new features that makes it easier to build and use. Additionally it's not only stronger, but also lighter. The geometry has changed completely, so the CG is easy to reach with lighter batteries. All the feedback from V1 has been implemented in the new design =)
Unfortunatly, I am getting many errors when attempting to unzip the file in Windows.
Maybe the Download is corrupted. I suggest to download the files again. Alternatively you could try a different program to unzip the files. If you still have problems, don't hesitate to contact me via Facebook and we figure it out.
Very nice design! Well done!
Very nice build, definitely one to download and build soon, Thanks for allowing the free download..
Dove posso scaricare i file per stamparlo?
The download link is in the description. It's uploaded to cults3D =)

This is so well designed!
Congratulations, can you share the propeller dimensions?
Thank you! I'm using an APC 11x7
One folder contains all parts as they were originally designed. The folder (SU-29_PrintFiles_PrusaMK3S) contains a few parts with less height to fit on prusa Mk3S printers.

Will you be uploading this in Bambu lab file settings too?! I feel like I'm firing at the hip with my print settings right now with my bambu lab while printing v1 xD
Yes, the Bambu Files will be included with V2. Unfortunately V1 is only compatible with Simplify3D, but V2 will be released in about a month 😊
@@3dblackbox which filament are you using as well? I had some left over rolls of eSun LW-PLA, but I don’t know if they will ever produce more of it again.

@@3dblackbox Will the V2 be a separate download or just update of the free V1?
@@wolflittlepsycho3437The V2 will be a separate download. V1 remains as free download
You removed the files?
I sold the design to eclipson. It's published through their website as well as the Pathfinder.
@@3dblackbox Good for you.
Great Topic, thanks👍
Glad you liked it!
What settings do you use for the wings? thanks
Settings for S3D are included in the .factory files. Unfortunately I can't suggest settings for other slicers for this design.
How much time can you fly it with the battery you used ?
With mixed flying style around 25mins. Crusing with a Li-Ion the flight time is around an hour.
I have printed the first part of the fuselage now and just noticed that mine is closed at the end and yours in the video is open as you have to slide them into each other. is this a problem of my printer/loading the files or is it normal and i have to cut it open?
It's a problem with your print settings. This Design is only compatible with S3D. The .factory Files include the necessary print settings. However, I'm working on a new version which is compatible with all slicers and it's going to be released soon.
@@3dblackboxThanks for responding so quick! But i found the solution to the loading problem already! @all Bambulab users you will have to set "slice gap closing radius" in Quality tab to 0 (this will make the slicer to load in the structural elements inside the Fuselage) and also you will have to set "Top shell layers" in the strength Tab to 0 (only for the parts where another part needs to be inserted in , for example Fuselage Fuse F1 ) right now im printing in vasemode , is it really durable enough with only one wall layer?!
This Design makes use of S3Ds Feature to Change settings at a specific z-height. You might be able to print certain parts, but some won't print as intended in other slicers, because they require top-layers or two walls e.g. the tips of the rudder and elevator (to close the parts) , the landing gear etc.. These parts are also using Vase Mode to keep it lightweight. Using normal mode and top layers for these parts will add top layers to the internal structure as well resulting in more weight and likely abtail heavy plane. It's a complex problem that can't be solved effectively by other slicers which is why I recommend S3D for this build. For the second version of this plane, I changed of the geometry to make it entirely printable in Vase Mode.
@@3dblackbox yeah im really struggling to print the parts as im farily new to 3d printing in general! Right now im looking which parts need to be open to fit into each other , those i print with the Vase mode using the settings i mentioned before. And other parts like rudders ,elevators or the landing gear which needs to be closed im printing with different settings. How do i find the CG? "CG: 80 mm behind the leading edge of the root"- Is the Edge of the Root the Edge of the wing?
Alright, how did you find the different carbon fiber rods for individual use?
I buy them on Amazon or my local shop. You can get them from AliExpress, too.
Hi did you use Inav in this wing? I have printed this plane & installing the electrics. Can you tell me what you set the fw_level_pitch_trim to? Thanks
Hi, yes I used iNav. I didn't touch this setting. Just make sure to grab it by the nose when throwing - not at the wing, like I did in the video 😁
@@3dblackboxthanks it does look a tricky wing to launch especially the first flight
@@irvine40 Actually it isn't with the right technique. It flies straight away without any roll tendency. However, I haven't designed or flown something as small as this before, so launching was a learning process and see what works best.
@@3dblackboxdid you set any reflex on the elevons?
@@irvine40 No, the only Thing that I slightly increased was the idle speed of the motor for autolaunch.
Hi, I have started to print the files after producing the GCode using the stl files via Prusa Slicer. However, I wanted to check if the print is single or double perimeter? and also which wing parts have bottom layers and how many layers? Many thanks in advance.
Hi, this design was meant to be printed with Simplify3D and makes use of the multi process feature to change profiles at a given z-height. The .factory Files include the print settings for S3D. However, I'm currently working on a new version that I'll release soon and which is compatible with all slicers.
Hi, thanks for prompt reply, it is very much appreciated. I look forward to the new version but in the mean time I will continue to try and get the Simplify3D version to work on the Prusa Mk4 without using the Prusa Slicer. Best Regards
Looks the biz.
Thank you!
Can I use "PLA" to build this plane? only "LW-PLA" is good for this plane?
LW-PLA is necessary to reach the CG. PLA would be very tail heavy.
Will v2 have the same esc, motor, carbon rods, etc. as v1 or will the BOM be different?
You can reuse most of the parts. The electronics from V1 will seamlessly integrate into V2. Some of the lengths of the carbon spars and screws my vary. Considering availability issues in certain regions, I suggest opting for a T-Motor AS2820. Nevertheless, if you possess a Permax from V1, it will still be compatible.
Link please?
It's a work in progress and not released yet.
Hurry due my v1 need a mate it looks great
In your files, there is 2 sets of fuselages. Do I need both?
One is .stl, the other is .factory and includes the print settings. You only need one version.

Can you please make a list for all the electronics and parts needed; such as the screws, nuts, wires and servos
There is a BOM for all parts in the cults3D description.

Thanks, you can get the parts from your local RC Hobby Shop, Amazon or AliExpress.
Hello, great project it looks good, when are you expecting to release v3 for all slicers? Don't really feel like shelling out $200 for a slicer 😅

Thanks a bunch, I appreciate it!
That’s a well designed and beautiful build. Well done. Lovely piece of engineering akin to how an Eclipson design and build techniques.
Thank you very much, I appreciate it! Actually, I had a couple of designs published by Eclipson last year-the Helix and Pathfinder. We collaborate occasionally ;)

what parts do i get for this? It'll be my first plane i build. I know literally nothing lol THIS IS AWESOME
Hi, thanks a lot. You can find the parts list on the cults3D page. However, if this is your first plane, I suggest to get started with a beginner friendly RTF Foam plane. Seeking out a local club to grasp the fundamentals firsthand will mitigate a significant amount of frustration.
@@3dblackbox my first one was a 3 channel foam plane and I had fun with that. I just want to actually assemble one mostly. I’ll check cults thanks!
@@cosmicJagaimo Ok great, good luck with your build and have fun!
@@3dblackbox if I wanted to shrink this plane a bit so I can fly it safely at a park, what parts would I get then? I think the current wing span might be too big for a park.
@@cosmicJagaimo Scaling this kind of design isn't possible without lots of modifications. Many components such as electronics and carbon spars will no longer be compatible. Additionally, issues will arise with the internal structure, tolerances, and high wing loading.
What are the engine and propeller specifications?
You can find all specs in the cults3D description. I used a Permax BL-O 3520-0920 with a 12x7 prop.
@@3dblackboxsorry I didn't check it. TY
Which lw-pla filament did you use? Is it the active foaming one? If so, where can I order this from. I’m in Usa. Thanks
I recommend Colorfabb LW-PLA. I think there are local dealers in the USA or you can buy it from Colorfabb directly.
This video deserves more views❤😊
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Nice
What servo do you need to use? Is 9g strong enough? Are we supposed to use 12g instead?
The weight alone doesn't convey sufficient information about the torque generated by the servo. I suggest considering the Savöx SH0255mg due to the potentially high speeds of this plane and the shorter leverage of the servo arms.
How much filliment will be needed to print this?
Around 500g LW-PLA and a few grams of TPU and PLA.
What should be the infill percentage?
The large parts don't require infill. The rib structure is designed and the settings are included in the .factory files for S3D.
@@3dblackboxthe canopy doesn't fit after the print the 2 parts doesn't fit into each other to form the part😢

Thank you very much just getting into this sport, looks like a really well designed plane. Thank heaps for the files.
💯💯
First of all, thank you very much for your time and hard work making this plane, and at no cost! I have a Bambu P1S and use bambu studio, but I see you mention in some comments that this should be printed with Simplify3D. What aspects of this work with S3D and not other slicers? I am noticing in bambu with vase mode I am not getting a top surface on the prints, is this intentional?
Thank you 😊 This Design makes use of S3Ds ability to change profiles at a specific Z-height. Therefore I used a Vase Mode approach for the interals while still being able to close shapes with top-layers at the end. Currently V2 is in beta testing which can be printed in vase mode and is compatible with all slicers.
Is v2 out?
