    you can use a cardboard box with a pillow case attached to the front for a target, dart hits the pillow case and since it's floppy it soaks up all the energy and it's easy to retrieve darts, half of them hit and then gently fall out, ive been doing this a long time, i used to have a phone book at the back, but you can put more cardboard, every now and then a cone will pop off and a dart will go thru so you need the extra behind the pillowcase for those times. (or just super glue all your darts and it's a non issue) but it's basically free and you can shoot it a million times. ive also used a box full of old rags but it was annoying getting your darts back out, can also shoot a old punching bag from a yard sale or thrift shop, it'll take tens of hundreds of shots before it starts to fall apart, then you just use duct tape and shoot it tens of hundreds more times. still the open box with pillow case in front is my favorite one.

    You probably can't find more than is said here on the subject. There really is no aspect missing. Except perhaps where you can find foam grips for the blowpipe online, because I'm still looking for them in vain. I would be grateful for website links here.

      Thank you! Unfortunately Target Zone Sports and Jungle Blowguns that used to sell straight foam grips are both long out of business. I have seen ridged grips available on Amazon and eBay but prefer a straight grip. You can also look at bicycle handlebar grips and cane grips from a medical store but it's hard to find one small enough for a tight fit, even for the larger .625 blowguns.

      @@theblowgunchannel3250 Thanks for answering. I guess I will go to either a hardware store and look for some pipe insulation made of foam or go to a bicycle store and look for a handle bar; especially a children's handle bar could fit. So sad that one doesn't find blowgun grips online anymore but I guess the market is too small for such items.

  • @johnswoodgadgets9819

    Great video! Very well done and informative. I built my own .625 blowguns for years, and I hold and aim traditionally (both hands very close to the mouthpiece). So, I use a pendant quiver, and a very light blowgun. I use a cupped mouthpiece and cannot use the ones on the commercial blowguns. 50 years of doing the same thing makes it difficult to change. Lately I have used several commercial darts in the 70-grain weight range and like them. Frankly it is easier to buy than to make them. I use my own cones, though. I have gotten used to the flexible cones I make from aisle marking tape, and they are my standard. They seem faster, and are definitely more consistent and quieter. I do have to change them often. I mostly shoot a four-footer, because I hunt in terrain with very dense vegetation. My shots are never more than thirty or forty feet. Bottom line, I am a sort of 'native' blowgun shooter, and the commercial darts and shafts are my 'trade points'.

I put it away and I forgot about it last week I found it in an old dresser drawer in my basement but I couldn’t find the darts . So my question is how can I tell what size dart it takes . I know by watching your videos its not a .625 so it must be a 40 or 50 cal so is there some way of measuring to know? Thank you John

    • @sholehnurudin
      @sholehnurudin 4 місяці тому

      All numbers are simply diameter of the bore in inch, so a ruler will do the job, or a vernier caliper for precise measure

    • @theblowgunchannel3250
      @theblowgunchannel3250 Місяць тому

      Just pull out a ruler and measure the inside diameter of the tube. It will be .40" (a little less than 1/2 inch), .50" (1/2 inch), or .625" (noticeably more than 1/2 inch).

    • @theblowgunchannel3250
      @theblowgunchannel3250 6 місяців тому

      My guess based on my .625 data is that going from about 3 feet (1 meter) to 5 feet in length would give you an increase of 10-15 fps. That's not dramatic, but a blowgun dart is already a very slow projectile and every advantage helps.

    • @theblowgunchannel3250

      It takes a LOT of practice! My guess is that the barrel connection in your 2-piece blowgun is not smooth and is affecting the dart trajectory. I have definitely see this happen. If you can hear the dart "tick" as is passes the connection try rotating the blowgun mouthpiece in 45-degree increments until the tick/impact is minimized. Hope this helps!

    • @theblowgunchannel3250
      @theblowgunchannel3250 5 місяців тому

      I agree that I wouldn't do so personally, though will say that the Cold Steel Pro blowguns can certainly handle it. Their blowgun mouthpieces do fit the hand very well for a walking stick grip. The one big change I would make if I were actually doing this would be to add a heavy rubber furniture foot to the end of the blowgun.
