Polaris RXL 1991 Tikka Racing's first start up after engine rebuild
Переглядів 3,3 тис.3 роки тому
Polaris RXL 1991 Tikka Racing's cause of engine failure was cold seizure on mag. side piston and mag. side injector o-ring fail. Cold seizure marks were also on other two pistons. So, engine was teared a part and rebuild from scratch with - straightened crankshaft with new end bearings - all new gaskets - new over size pistons with pits and pieces - honed cylinders - new fuel lines and filters ...

Some noise from the crankshaft bearings.
How dID you fix it?
By adjusting the tps.
although i just picked up a new vr1 boost to go with my axys 800, i absolutely love the old wedge 90s polaris sleds, 80s too i guess as the 650 from '88 on i remember seeing at the bars when i would go to restaurants to eat with my parents, those days guys had the polaris leathers snow suits and it was a different world, but cool in its own way. i remember when the 91 rxl came out in race and rally, wow that was cool, followed up by the vmax for the next year. i i had a 96 and wish i would have kept it even though it had problems, had others too but the rxl was pretty neat. I'm sure no one cares, but those were good times.
My old 440 Blizzard ran even up with one of those in 92.
I think time has gilded memories! 😄 Seriously, that race would have been nice to see!!
@@ruoppana He weighed 250 i weighed 150 and it was in 3in of fresh snow on the lk. With his 125lb girfriend on it, would go by my 9500+
😆
What did you do? I cant tell what you did. My 1993 RXL is bogging and would like to know what you did to fix it?
Hi! In this RXL Throttle Position Sensor adjustment were off. I adjusted it and it helped for bogging.
I want it
These were sweet until the OEM piston skirt dropped into the crank at 8k rpms. Ask me how I know. :) That EFI also had a slight bog if I recall
Got to love those Rxl's
The best looking snowmobile Polaris ever made period!!!! I had a 91 RXL and set up as a drag sled with SLP pipes and kicked ass!! Nothing like the old piston port engines!
holly shit this is brand new id be taking care of that thing alright never sell it one of a kind
Thanks! Yes, it has been rebuild to its former glory!
Wow, what a sweet rxl! That mother looks and sounds mean! What a pretty sled as well! Beautiful workmanship on engine, with tripple pipes! These were so fast stock! I had a 93rxl which was the quickest and lightest indy ive owned! More than the carbed 650, xlt, and ultra! These Rxl's had startup battery issues sometimes, but when they ran, WATCH OUT! The throttle pull was so light, and they would rev so quick, with the clutch synced so right ,stock! These were total racing sleds right out of the crate! Nothing came close in 91! And beefed like yours is even cooler , nice job! Just beautiful!🌝👍
That thing is running mint
Yes, it is. It has plenty nos parts in it.
@@ruoppana hit high 8K rpm, is that normal for EFI triples? I have a 97 XLT Special, gets to about 8250 WOT
@@paullevinski1221 Yes, it revs bit too much. It should rev max 8k.
Nice sled
I think so too, thanks!
Beautiful sled! Just got rid of one the same year... did not look as nice as this one lol!
Loved the wedge sleds. I had a 92 indy 650 carb a long time ago. Never let me down. Happy trails!
Thx! Happy trails are on the waiting list because the front torque arm and the shock are broken.
Beautiful sled
Thanks, it's like a new.
Love the Rexl!
I love the efi
Yes, it's great when everything is working.
Beautiful machine hope you enjoy it.
Thanks! Yes, I enjoy it everytime when it is running
Km/h speedo....?
Yes, it is km/h speedo.
I have same sled just rebuilt the top end now it dont start on the second pull ant ideas? How do i get that software into my laptop?
Follow this page instructions to get the sw working bigsnowpage.com/snowmobile-repair-info/polaris-rxl-and-indy-500-efi-select-monitor-software-and-interface/. Do you have good battery, are all grounds conneted / all wiring harness plugs, does the fuel pump cycle, does it have spark? Good place to get information and help is the facebook's rxl/efi group!
@@ruoppana Ok Thanks for your help
How was the efi on the 650? I have heard it was problematic
Bad battery is one which will cause problems. Battery has to be in good shape. In my RXL ecu was giving error code from one of the injectors. I tracked the problem and finally changed the wires between ecu and the injector which solved the problem. So there can problems but every problem has a solution if you can find the cause.
@@ruoppana So if the ROM was downloaded to be modified we would need a eprom re flasher and a the right 28 pin generic chip and hacker guy to decipher the code? I'm interested because my 1995 650 efi RXL long track seems to hit a wall at around 8,000rpms and i think its rev limited. I poped the cover off the ECU and noticed what looks like a potentiometer behind the rubber plug on the side with the ecu light and beside the wire harness socket.
@@SmokeyWire56 Hi! You have to change clutch weights if you want it to rev over 8,000 rpms and of course then you will need modified ROM. That screw behind the plug is for Mixture Enrichment (MR) adjustment and it does same as the air screw on a carburetor. It effects only when rpms are below 3500. You need to have select monitor to attached to the EFI to adjust it. On the video you can see that my sled's MR value is 3,5 on the bottom of the right corner. MR value 0 is leanest and 5 is richest and the ideal value is 2,5.
@@ruoppana which program do you use to scan the ecu and which wire ??
A lot of good information can be found from RXL&EFI facebook group. Monitoring sw: www.rensu.net/index.php?valikko=RXL&sivu=select_monitor_eng Use FTDI cable and it must 5 volt version, you can find it from ebay or amazon: ftdichip.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/DS_TTL-232RG_CABLES.pdf
Just be careful with that battery mount, I recently noticed that my battery melted on my 500 widetrak with the battery 2" from the pipe behind a piece of metal backing. Happy trails on your build otherwise
There is the aluminium cover over the battery.
Beautiful, sounds amazing. Isn't that software awesome?! I have a 1995 RXL and a 1992 500EFI SP, both look and run like new.
Thanks! Yes, the software is great.
@@ruoppana where did you get the software. Me and a friend are going to restore a -92 rxl. Or was it a -93.
