Ah thats terrible! Unfortunately Qantas isn't consistent with their 737s. Most do have inflight entertainment and free WiFI, however there are a few without these (I have been unfortunate to be on one of those too). Their inflight entertainment certainly does need upgrading which I have mentioned in numerous reviews. I do think they should be using at least some wide bodies for this longest route in Australia as normally the 737s get jam pack!

100% agree it is a fantastic aircraft. It's a shame though for this segment (MEL to PER) the 787 will be axed sometime mid July 2024.

@@thewindowseat77 Ah, ok. I have done PER - MEL a couple of times in 12K. It is just unreal how as the engine spools up on start-up, everything seems to vibrate in resonance with it.

I would say maybe about 25% of the passengers are Japanese. Japan Airlines does fly this route also and I suspect most Japanese prefer to use their national airline when travelling between KL and Japan.

Awesome! 😀 Unfortunately I didn't book using the explorer pass fare but through the regular JAL booking method. Using that I was able to select seats freely so maybe it is a quirk with using the explorer pass fare. Also if your flight is using Japan Airline's Touch and Go boarding system you actually won't need to check in/online check in before the flight. Seat selection is done using the Manage my Booking option and all you do on your flight day is scan your reservation barcode (again only if your flight is a touch and go enabled flight) through security and boarding. It seems like for whatever reason you can't even select a seat in Manage my booking so you might need to head to the JAL staff at the airport to sort out seating. That said I did have seat selection issues with JAL on a Business Class flight from Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur. This flight was not Touch and Go boarding enabled, and all window seats weren't available to be selected before the flight in the Business cabin (I heard these window seats are reserved only for higher tier Oneworld flyers to select first). The only way around if was wait for online check-in 24 hours before where all seats become 'unlocked' on a first come first serve basis. I wasn't very happy with this approach, but hey it goes to show JAL do restrict seat selection based on some conditions. I hope you can sort it out and get the seat you want!

Nice flight review. It’s crazy some of the big aircraft they fly domestically in Japan. I remember flying a 777 Between Itami and Narita with ANA and the whole process was typical Japanese efficiency!

That is an excellent observation, one that I considered myself also at the time during the flight. I wasn't given a choice to select when the pre-ordered steak would be served (not that I recall anyways), however it's probable that due to the flight service beginning at around 1am, they chose to serve the popular lighter satay first with snacks/drinks before bed time and save the heavier meal for breakfast the next morning. The satay so I hear is particularly fast to run out (some flights are unfortunately unable to even offer them) so I was glad to receive this item first before anything else. I've heard from quite a few people who unfortunately lost their credits as they expired with no extension despite having extensive border closures in place at the time (essentially rendering the credits useless in the first place!). Sorry to also hear of your terrible experience with their customer support 😞. Malaysia Airlines in my recent experience has been fantastic! I haven't needed to contact their customer support though so I couldn't tell you if it's good or bad.

The flight itself i'd say was about an 8/10. The cabin crew were very pleasant and I especially appreciated the cabin crew not hounding passengers with the inflight sales items during the flight - they let passengers sleep in comfort during the red eye flight (2am to 7am). I also had a checked in bag which was easy enough to drop off at the Baggage Drop counters before the flight. Remember to pre-book your baggage allowance at the time of booking your flight as it is the cheapest then. Buying baggage allowance later or at the airport will be more expensive!

It was an extremely good experience! :D

Hopefully one day you can try out the Business Class offering!

I unfortunately know many cases during COVID where they gave credits to people instead of cash refunds. On top of that the credits expired in 2 years, which by the time the 2 years came up, most borders were still closed or required heavy vaccination requirements which rendered them almost unusable to passengers.

I agree AirAsia is good for point A to point B. MAS definitely if you want the better experience and service 😁.

@@thewindowseat77 We must be aware of Air Asia indeed budget airlines of cheap air ticket... whereas for MAS indeed a world class airline the air ticket it's very costly... Anyway it up to personal choice to take MAS or Air Asia ✈️... In the past I took MAS all the times... I never take AA before, then I take AA for the first time.....I was very surprised that AA Captain and Pilot they handle the aircraft very professional.... although the aircraft it operates of auto pilot system, they have done an outstanding job... All the 3 flights 🛫 that I took it's safety landed to the destination..... I will take AA again, not to forget MAS as well.. my dream it's to take other international airlines to travel another country...that's will be awesome 👍.

The roasted chicken is excellent, I had it on a different flight before 🙂. The Pak Nasser will be next on my list!

Ah, yeah unfortunately the Qantas 737s aren't all uniformly the same in their cabins 🙁. I have also been on the ones with the TVs on the roof and agree it's not a good experience at all!

Sure! When you land a KL and head onwards to KK that will be considered a Domestic flight so you will be at the KLIA Main Terminal. Inside there are a few lounges I'm aware of including the Golden Lounge, but to get access in you will either need to hold a Business Class ticket or purchase an entry to the Golden Lounge at the front reception. There are plenty of signs and airport staff that will assist you in directions :).

Since you're flying in from Sydney, chances are you will disembark at the satellite terminal (Gates C's) (note: a small number of international arrivals do disembark through the Main Terminal Building (MTB) i.e. gates G's, H's but it's not common) Either case the process is the same. 1. Follow the sign that says 'Transfer'. It will lead you to the Main Terminal Building (MTB) including hopping on either the bus or train. 2. Upon reaching the MTB, the 'Transfer' sign will bring you via some escalators to some airside immigration counters for you to clear immigration before your domestic connection. (Note that this is a different immigration counters from those exiting the airport) After clearing immigration there will be a transfer desk for you to check in (if you need it for whatever reasons) then proceed to your gates which could either be on the A or B wings (Domestic Golden Lounge is near Gate A01) 3. Upon your arrival in KK (surprise!) you shall have to clear the local immigration again. This is applicable to ALL travellers even Malaysian mainlander (where they have to scan their ID) due to the autonomous status of Sabah (the state where KK is the capital) so please keep your passport handy. Note: You don't need to worry about klia2 (or Terminal 2 as it is now called) unless you're connecting with Air Asia (which I doubt) Hope this helps

There are only a couple of months in a year where the A350 is used for this journey, so be sure to check when making your booking. That's correct, the A350 and A330 have fully lie flat seats, while the 737 do not fully lie flat. Hope it helps!

Sorry to hear you had similar experiences with their support, and yes for an airline this big it is troubling! Now that you mention it, I agree! I actually didn't see alot of vegetarian options on the menu which is another area they could improve on too! 💪👍🏻

The Changi Lounge is at the Jewel complex, so yes after arriving you can head there. The Priority Pass will cover this lounge :).

Does that allow access to use the showers?
