A passion project and the result of four CNC woodworkers and designers uniting for something amazing!
Improving the Speed of 3D CNC Carves - Aspire
I walk through a way I found to cut my time in half when doing my CNC engravings by using two finishing passes with different ball nose bits based on level of detail needed.

How To Make A CNC & Lasered 3D Wood Flag
Переглядів 23 тис.2 роки тому
I walk through how I make everything from file to finished product using 3/4 baltic birch, my cnc, and my laser. Note* I forgot to include that I zero my laser's focus midway between the wave's higest and lowest points. Draped Flag File: www.patriotnationdesigns.com Viking File: 3dwave.us/
Do you use the same feed/speed for both bits and your plunge is set higher than I’ve seen compared to feed rate just curious if those are your final settings if so I need to up some shit
Step one. Buy a CNC machine.
How long did the laser part take?
about 2 hours
How can I get the stl file of the flag? Nice job thanks
How can I get the stl file of the flag? Nice job thanks
Am i seeing that right. Is that baltic birch plywood?
What type of engraving machine do you use thanks
Just signed up for a year membership. You guys have some amazing stuff and should make some more videos. Guys like me are proud to support what you guys are doing luckily I stumbled onto this video.
Thank you! I need to make more... time is hard to come by but we need to make it happen!
On my onefinity, using vcarve laser module, if I try to engracd the whole flag at one go, it loses steps and will medd up the whole burn. I'm having to break it into like 6 smaller sections and burn it piece by piece. Any suggestions on how to stop losing steps?
I havent tried yet but when you overlay the 2nd file over the flag... does it automatically contour to the 1st file (flag)?
Nice job but i really can understand how you managed to laser engrave on a 3D model! can you please explain?
I was curious if I would be able to use the laser to help out some of the portraits that I do for people. I was going to try this anyway, but I am glad that I run across your video. I have been doing the 2.5d portraits for a while now and I was given a very nice 100w C02 laser. I was pondering about combining the two. You have given me the extra push to experiment sooner. Everyone says that I should quit my job now and do my artwork full time. I won't do that but I will try this now. Thanks.
What machine do you use
What type of CNC bit did you use? I know you said 1.5mm but length, size of shank? Do you have a link to where we can purchase this but? Thanks
Amazing work. Can I ask what laser you are using?
Taylor, can you tell me what bit you actually used to make the 3d carving?
Awesome work, can you combine two stl's like you did, in vcarve pro instead of aspire?
Had to be aspire
Beautiful!
Thanks!
Masterpiece!
Im still trying to figure out how you made the Stars and stripes image follow the contour and topography of the 3D model you had in Aspire. Especially how the stars in the upper left corner look so realistic.
Thanks! I used adobi illustrator to accomplish this
Just subscribed and hoping for more tutorials, just out of interest what enamel finish do you use, best wishes from the UK
Intrested in ordering a custom piece please message me.
Nice
hello, I'm building my CNC Router, very cool your work, what software are you using
aspire and v carve pro
Dude I love the flags. I followed your tutorial for the Viking flag and set it all up in Aspire and can't wait to get through some of the projects I have backlogged so I can give it a try. I appreciate you taking the time to make these tutorials. I'm eagerly awaiting your video about the jig setup for the laser. Thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge.
If the 3D file is already built can you just import it if you only have Vcrave Pro?
Yes I believe so
Alright boys!! lets get this channel going has a great how to channel. Do Vcarve too!! Would love to see the painting then lasering tutorial on here. Great work!
i love this one.can you do wood flag for me?
id love to shoot me an email at patriotdesignllc@gmail.com
Any thought on how to do this without the laser?
Ive seen it done well but without the cracked look
Just joined your site as a pro monthly. About to make one of these for a silent auction. Just gotta figure out what I will do since I don't have a laser for my CNC. Great work keep it up! I'm trying to get more advanced as quickly as I can. May have to invest in a laser sooner than I was planning to.
The only aspect I can't figure out is how to get the crackles look on the black. How is that specific look achieved. I was able to do everything else. Is the crackle part of the vector I am missing?
it was - we have the file available on the site to achieve that if you search "cracked"
That is awesome. I just picked up a CO2 laser (130W tube) last week. Still trying to figure out settings to be able to remove paint. Really struggling with correct settings to be able to do something like this, i.e. for laser to remove paint without charring wood. But I would like to, it's impressive. Will need to go look at Patriot Nation. Thank you again.
Very nice work my friend 👍🙏
Wow very nice 🤙
What do you sell that flag piece for?? $150/$200/$250? It looks amazing and thank you for sharing.
$325 - thank you!
Looks great, awesome work. You mentioned sanding in the video, are you sanding it by hand?
yep
Nice work Taylor!!🔥
Thank you 🤗
man this is un real..
When you say waste board what exactly does that mean?? I have a co2 and I am thinking like a board that you put under the project. I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense.
yeah its just a board to mark up and "sacrifice" that I change out every so often.
Do you have a draped Canadian flag vector on your site I couldn't find one? I'd like to do the same as this American one. Great work.
I'll be doing it very soon
got it added!
I never leave comments on anything but I will say this is bad ass. I think you just convinced me to buy a CNC machine instead of a laser cutter
Nice! Thank you :)
Wait you raster in x and y at the same time ?
45 degree raster set in aspire
This is absolutely amazing! very cool stuff!
Just joined patriot nation. I wondered it you could do a tutorial of how to use the svg with the draped flag if you don't have a laser. I have an idea of how to fudge it by doing a full finishing pass and then the pattern finishing pass and manually lowering my material depth, but this is a lot of time and effort to fudge it. fairly new to CNC
thanks!
Is it possible to purchase an american flag from you?
Yes shoot me an email! patriotdesignllc@gmail.com
+1 sub, membership prices are way to high for me. But ill prob buy a file or 2 i do like your flags. Thx for video was good. I only have Vcarve pro, got me really thinking about upgrading to aspire. But i do like the files you offer. happy new year.
We did add a new plan at $10/mo for half off files!
🤭 P R O M O S M!!!
What were your carve and burn times?
Carve time is high but I finally figured out how to run two tool paths with fine ball nose around the middle model and a larger one to do the rest of the waves. That's cut my time in half to about 3-4 hours. Laser time is best with a CO2 (around another hour). My diode laser takes closer to 3 hours.
@@PatriotNationDesign What bit combination are you using for the larger and more detailed bits?
Awesome it sucks I can’t make one without Aspire
it's a pain, but you can combine multiple STL files into a single one in blender, and then you can then import that single file into vcarve. It won't be quite the same as the video - in the video you can see the flags waves through viking, and you would not be able to see the waves in the viking with blender. FYI - blender is free.
it is possible with vcarve pro but it would take a combined STL prior
you can do it in easel now
Thank you
