A most brilliant series...one of the most nuanced and subtle portrayals of the psychology of the sociopath/ narcissistic personality disorder. There are scant few films or series that reflect any depth of understanding of the 'dangerous personality'. This series is one of the few exceptions. Contrary to Hollywood stereotypes, people like the character Tom Ripley do not necessarily stand out from the crowd; they can be charming and 'friendly', yet there is a social awkwardness, a vacant stare, an emptiness and a paranoia that can explode into unexpected repressed rage and manipulative, parasitic and predatory behaviour. These personality characteristics are portrayed with subtlety and depth by the actor who plays Tom Ripley, all accentuated by stunning black and white cinematography. He was in my opinion, much more effective and much more complex and interesting than the original Ripley played by Matt Damon. Please bring on more shows like this on Netflix!!

I agree that it's uncomfortable to watch because its subject is difficult, but I still find it enjoyable to watch. I don't find it irritating that he makes irrational decisions or does things that are wrong - I found it quite realistic to real life. People ending up in bad situations and returning to them again and again really does happen in real life, and this really did happen to him, so it does feel realistic to me. People make all sorts of mistakes, especially if they have some really bad trauma that makes their response to real life unusual. People don't act in a way that makes real sense a lot of the time.

Good review. I appreciate your skepticism for Donnie’s actions (or lack thereof) throughout. I must say I disagree that the show tried to excuse Martha or Donnie’s actions. To me it’s a show about causality and free will. Yes, that makes it highly frustrating to watch. But that’s the point. Shitty people are not inherently evil. They have had some unfortunate set of circumstances to lead them there. We should be more empathetic to these people as a society. That’s how we better society. Baby Reindeer told that story in my opinion. Really enjoyed your review. I understand your point of view.

Is it good? Fuck yes its good! Guy Ritchie at his best, music is always good, love how he uses UK hip hop. I'm not a crazy fan of hip-hop but I can tell when it's good and he uses good British hip-hop that I only hear in his films. . Maybe another season???

I think the main point of the show is how Fall causes gradual character growth from his crew mates. The key line in the show for me is when Pedro and Liza agree that Fall “grows on you”. This is despite Fall’s social awkwardness, naive nature and overly earnest manner. And I think the juxtaposition of Fall as trapped person like an animal at home was clever. Even the crew think they are cruel!

The biggest problem for me was the absolute glut of Applebee’s product placement in episode 10. It broke my immersion so badly that I almost ragequit. The rest of the show deserved better than that.

Oh btw season 5 is my favourite lmao it has my all time favourite gag which is when Lister is saying "quick suprise me Kyrten!" And hes saying "im about ti surprise you now sir, here comes fhe suprise." And quarantine is possibly the best overall episode imo its fuckin hilarious. Season 6 is my love hate season because of the amazing episodes but the repetition of jokes.

The voice acting worked for me. It kind of reminded me of Daria Morgendorfer, but with a lot of gentleness. It's also why I like her character design, specifically the eyes.

I actually believe the surf episode was her reading someone's memior/biography about surfing and then thinking/daydreaming about it. Probably to keep the charade up with her parents. Maybe this thing she read ended up being inspiring to her and it's why we see it filtered through green eyed carol durinf the episode. The only times we see our normal carol was brief moments of her looking at surf drawings in a book and getting into bed.

I love this show so much and enjoy the stories that are telled. It is not as deep as bojack horseman but it have some comon vibes. Btw bojack horseman is my favorite shows ever.

i honestly first interpreted the syrf episode as a letter from Carol to her parents! looking back, i think it was more a a daydream if her imagining ger life of she were really a surfer, dye to the different eye color

I belive the surf episode was some Carrol's creative thinking about if she chose a surfers life, maybe writing to her parents... if you watch closely, in the whole season her eyes are brown, but only in this episode her eyes are green (that upset me a lot, until I realized this was not a cannon episode, but an imaginary one)

I, too, was confused by the Carol surfing episode. Was it a dream sequence? A metaphor? Something she actually did before returning to the office (seems unlikely). How did her epiphane as a surfer relate to her life story?

The fact that even the reviewers that support the show have little good to say tells you all you need to know. The show tries so hard to be early 2000s dark comedy but fails miserably. It's a family guy episode without any humor and all shock horror trying to be edgy comedy.
